SILK is good....

SWEET DENA at SWADDLE COTTAGE
asked the question, "ARE THE SILK FLOWERS OUT OF STYLE...ARE THEY TACKY...
*
OOOO, DENA....not when they are as pretty as yours !!
*

I, too, have some silk flowers that I just love.
like these delicious roses...

and these romantic, pink and creme tulips....

and these little, tiny, pink roses...

and I love my giant sunflower..

and ALL cottages are for the better with RED GERANIUMS...
REAL OR SILK !!

and, I have been loving my PIER ONE bouquet for several years now...
no water, no fertilizer, just a little dusting now and again and they look as good today as they did
several years ago ! These are the ones that folks on RATE MY SPACE (shiver) told me to lose !!!
I always think of what sweet KIM, owner of DAISY COTTAGE said once...
"HOMES WERE MEANT TO BE LOVED...NEVER RATED"
and I agree 100 percent.

Oh, yes, dear Dena...your silk flowers will be "in" from now on...
great silks are classic and will never go out of style..
ESPECIALLY IF YOU LOVE THEM
like we do !

and, for the ICING ON THE CAKE....
our sweet GOLLUM, designer extraordinaire,
says ....
IT IS OK TO USE GOOD SILKS
and
it can't get any better than THAT !! ;o)
**************
XO bj
*
LADIES, please don't sue me for using your gorgeous photos....I don't have ANY money! :O(

THIS ONE....?
AS REAL AS IT GETS, SISTAS...
THIS was one of my birthday flowers...but, alas, it is LONG GONE.
BUT, see, all my SILKS are still blooming and.....
LOOKIN' GOOOD !!
;o)
XO bj

GM BJ, Hey Silk is wonderful. I even have it on my front porch. When we go away for the summer, I put them in the garage and they look just the same when we get back home. :)Oh yeah, I do have a live Christmas catus and a pepper plant, for some reason they still look beautiful. Inside, they are all silk too.I go to Michaels, tell them the flowers and colors I want and this very talented girl makes it for me.
How's the wall paper removal coming? I've had some stubborn borders that didn't want to come off, I scored them, sprayed hot water on it , let it set for a few minutes and it came right off. Be sure you take pictures of the before and after. Don't work to hard.

Love Ya,
Chris

I have to agree, BJ. When you live in cold, dreary Indiana the silks can really brighten things up. Love your blog!

For what it is worth I agree that silk flowers and plants have their place in the scheme of decorating- nice ones though...it is my home and I will decorate as I like (and can afford)...you can put real flowers in a house - that does not necessarily make it a home...certainly a lot of difference between a house and a home.

Take care - enjoy God's blessing.

You and all of your blooms always make me bloom. Some blooms are real and some are silk, and they all bring smiles.

I agree with you!! Some silks are better than the real thing. I have one little silk plant that my family of men didn't realize was fake for months!!

Terri Steffes said...

I love silk flowers. Where I live, if I didn't have silks, we'd only see flowers 3-5 months of the year. UNACCEPTABLE!

Some of my green silk plants look real! In fact, better than real, since I tend to forget to water them...

Hi Bj, Thanks for taking a moment to stop by and see my chefs. I was so thrilled that you visited me. :) You made my day! Thank you! I am just starting to like some of the silks I see out there. Some are so realistic! Have a Happy Day!

I have some silks too -- I just have a hard time keeping the dust off. Eventually I give up and place them in the sink. :o)

Silk flowers are THE IN STYLE as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I'm showing some today.

GM BJ...I love silk flowers and Yes RMS can be painful when it comes to them..girl when I first posted on there they tore my poor house apart because of them..I tossed out so many of mine...and I found out I lost my Happy place with RMS..I think the silk soften the wood on furniture...great post today BJ...now I have to find out how to dust them...does anyone know that? hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Good Morning BJ,

You are so sweet and I am SO glad I am not alone :) I love all of yours, especially the red geraniums!

Silk is fine and dandy as far as I'm concerned. I have some silks that are getting a tad "long in the tooth", but they still look good and I'm still using them.

Loved all the photos, BJ!

I think silks are fine, if they make us happy to look at, that is all that matters. Those of us who live in colder climates can't always afford to fill our homes with fresh flowers. I use silks on top of bookshelves and in places where I don't often reach and would be afraid to spill water too!

I agree with you totally. I love flowers but with the long winters in Michigan I would go broke trying to buy fresh flowers and it is just so nice to have some color through the winter. Though my sweet nephew stopped and brought me some this weekend, real flowers, I confess it is really nice and I snitched a couple hugs from him to boot!

Hi BJ,

I am so very glad you visited me. I lost everything on my sidebar when I tried to change my template. Now I'm having to wait to those I lost to visit me so I can add them back to my sidebar.

I love the new or not so new (since I haven't visited in a while) look on your blog. So pretty for Valentine's.

The pictures of the silk flowers are very nice. I have several in my home, so I'm hoping they are not out of style.

I'm glad you love the silks! As a "permanent botanical" designer, I am happy to hear so many still love them! I hear that is the new term for them.

Just found you on Beth's blog, and glad I did!

Re silk flowers, I love them (clearly prefer fresh, though). I use silk flowers extensively mixed in with real plants as filler accents.

I shall have another look around your lovely blog and check out if I can 'follow' you somewhere.

God bless!
Angelika.

Silk flowers are not out. My favorite in house arrangement is made out of them. And outside I put silk and plastic flowers in pots and among the greenery. Right now my porch has cascades of white, red and pink fake flowers and I love them! i murder real flowers... not on purpose... it is always accidental!!!

Hey BJ...I always said if my indoor plants couldn't survive on neglect, then they wouldn't make it...hence, that's why I only have silk ones too! ;-) Bo

Silks are a wonderful thing when done right so ladies don't stop using silks! The key to silks is you have to "breath" some life into them...they come stiff and straight usually...you simply need to bend them and shape them so they look real! Being a designer it makes me nuts to go somewhere and see flowers jammed into something standing like little soldiers! The "wildflower" look of a fresh garden picked bqt is so in style....I always tell girls in a class to look at pictures of real ones to get an idea of how they "grow" and bend and shape from there...

I love silk flowers and yours are exquisite. "Out of style" is a term that I wonder about. If I like something it has to be "in style!!!"

Hi sweetest BJness! Oh, now you have some beauties. You know how I love my faux flowers! Yes I do!
Be a sweetie,

Hi BJ
Those flowers do not even look like silk flowers. They look so lovely. I don't think there is anything wrong with silk flowers when they look like yours. I don't like a whole house full of artificial but love a colourful arrangement.
I hope you've had a lovely day.
Judi

P.S. I've moved to BLOGSPOT! I hope you'll come by and visit me in my new home!

I'm no decorator, but I know what I like and to me, that is what makes a house a home, having what YOU like in it. I have my silks and I dare anyone to try to make me get rid of them!!! Love today's post BJ. Love you too!

From a girl that ruined more than one table top from watering live plants, I go strictly silk now. You sure can find some beauties at the store. Sometimes you have to touch them to see if they are silk or real. I have some tulips that I bought from Macy's that look and feel so real & they fool so many. They are waxy-ish just like tulip petals and leaves are. Even the pot has "dirt". I love your silks - your sunflower, your geraniums, etc. ~ Robyn

I have a little palm plant that looks so real that my mom watered it one time ! LOL.We still have a good laugh over that one .

Good morning, BJ -
Some silk flowers are tacky - and some are absolutely wonderful! I love to find gorgeous silk flowers and add them to little spots around the house to brighten the long, gray, winter days.

I don't think silk flowers will ever go out of style:-) I love them myself, especially if they're well made...so often I have to go touch them for myself to see if they're real or not. lol xoxo

I don't care what they say in Rate My Space or the decorating shows...silk flowers will never go out of style! Who can have the real thing all the time, and if we could, who can afford it? I love having florals in my home, and I tend to kill any houseplant, so silk flowers are perfect! I even have them strung across my headboard. I don't care if they are tacky, because I just love them!
