REMEMBER how sad this table top setting looked...?
OK, bye-bye, FATHER CHRISTMAS....
different vase does NOTHING....
EVERY thing still looks too unrelated...or SOMETHING !!
HMMM...then I looked across the room and saw THIS...
OK, so maybe I WILL move the glass bar set..at least for a few minutes to see how THIS might look..
but I've got my doubts...
AND .....these.....
now these little bookends look positively GREAT wherever they are given a home...
couldn't hurt to TRY these....
what do you think? is it ANY better?
I went shopping in THE CLOSET and there is not a single, tall, to*die*for, perfect lamp to replace the big, fat one with.....and Social Security says they are NOT paying for new lamps right now....
maybe later...
maybe the glass BAR SET was just too 'light" looking for this spot ?
but...REMEMBER...
I don't know one thing about SCALE..or balance... so this all may be off, too.
For right now, tho, until I can find something I like better or that LOOKS better,
I am pretty sure I can live with THIS LOOK..... looks to me like things 'relate' more with each other...and I don't get the "head cocked to one side 'cause one end of the buffet looks heavier than the other" so doesn't that mean the 'weight' is better distributed??
AFTER ALL...this is just one little tiny spot in my living room...not a big deal...
It's just that each little spot makes up the BIG PICTURE and just like you,
I want my BIG PICTURE to be pretty !! :O)
*
THANKS AGAIN for all your help!!
*
*
DOES it look a whole lot better to you or was I just needing a nice CHANGE ?? ;O)
P.S. If you will remember, I showed the PEANUT BRITTLE on the post with my SAD TABLE TOP....and here's what SANTAMAKER SAID:
santamaker said...
"Hi B.J.Okay, here's what you do....put a large piece of peanut brittle by the Father Christmas and that will make him "weigh" more, so now your scale will be balanced..."
hahahaha...you gotta love that !!
OOO, AIN'T LIFE GRAND !

Hello dearest! Thank you so much for your support in the weight loss game. You are awesome!
I had a great giggle with your scale problem and I really love the end result. I know..it's sad to get rid of Santa but you can display him in another spot, perhaps close to where you usually are in your home.
Well, I'd best be getting ready for work. You have a great day!
Love ya,
Deanna :)
Good morning BJ:>) I love the new look, the added color helps and I do think the items relate to each other better. Now where is Sanata?
I love the new look - you did great! You are getting that tweaking part of decorating down pretty perfect.
Have a wonderful day.
Girl, you're stressing way to much about this. If you like what you see, then it's good. I know about scale, somewhat, and I try to do it, but if it's something I like together and it's not to scale. oh well....I do wonder if you took the books from under the lamp and put them in the bookends, in between the candles and lamp. LOL, just a thought. I went to Lowe's yesterday and got the paint for my bar top, also got Ponytail sample for the walls. It looks beige to me, but he swore it is in the gold's family.I couldn't find what you got. So we'll see. I have too much going on right now. LOL
Love Ya,
Chris
I like the new look. The splash of red color, books and flower, are pretty. The bookends are adorable.
Good Job! Candy
You've got me scratching my head. I think so much of it looks great. It's a shame that you can't keep Father where you WANT to!
That is definately a fine improvement!
I think you were right about the decanter set...it was too light in color.
I think it looks wonderful!
You get an A plus for your decorating redo!
BJ, Stop right there, it is picture perfect now! :) It was fun to see the vignette evolving through each trial and error! I love the candles and the little book ends are just precious! You did good! :) ~hugs, Rhonda
PS...I change my vignettes like that over and over, til it gets the right feel! :)
Ok, I am not great at this... but I wondered if the red books could go under your lamp, the black books in your bookstands with the red plant behind it, and the candles at an angle like you have them. If you could find a red candle to replace one of them, that might give you some unity.
Remember, I had to ask about 30 people about pillows!
Problem w/ Santa's suggestion is...that peanut brittle wouldn't make it there for long, so poor Santa would still weigh too much! :O) I like what you did. I escpecially like the hide-n-seek book ends!
I love your display! It all seems to fit nicely and it has a pop of color as well. Great job!
Good morning BJ,
You just needed a nice change. It's good to change things around, I belive it energized the room with new energy.. But I love the new look.
Many smiles and blessings,
Virginia :)
I like it, BJ! Did you have fun playing with this scape? That's important, too!
Lol..my Dear Bj..I am coming over to "play" with your treasures...ok try this until I get there....(this may get lengthy) sorry.....
Ok...move lamp to right (perhaps on wider books, perhaps if they were as wide as the bottom of shade it would add more balance) place one of the birdies on the top book...next to lamp and one birdie on the table...
move your beautiful decanter set to the left of table... perhaps just one book (small one) sitting on side of..but angeled "in " to center of table next to decanter set!
Or......Try to put lamp to right...try no books...place 1 cherub on a book in front of lamp, leave the decanter set in middle, take a stack of two books laying flat...put other cherub on top of it..and stand a book up to the right of the two books that are laying flat! Usually if you want to create some "scale" on a "balanced" vignette the width or the height of the 2 end objects is often best comparable in size.
Our eyes are trained to look left to right (reading..lol...Dick and Jane) and it is easier on the eye usually when the shorter objects in a vignette are to the left...and shall we say "stepping up to the right! Well my dear...have I confused you yet?
I also have a few other ideas to try with the candles...but I do not want to confuse you...more! If I could get my scanner going I would draw up some more options for you to try....or lol...packing my bags and coming to Texas...start some tea! ;)
Playing around with it until it looks right is the fun of it. I like it so much. It more of a natural blend and not just stuff set on a table. You could even place an old set of reading glasses somewhere in the mix. You did good.
You display looks great! I love it when I rearrange things...makes me feel like I've got something brand new!
I like the new tablescape. Have a great day.
Betty
GM BJ...this looks good also..but do you need the books now for height without the Santa being there?? and I like Rose idea she is too funnyn..hope you have a great day. hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Poor Bj..stop stressing... play with it...until you like it and then leave it a day or two. I have a similar table that I am always changing!
Looks GREAT!! It probably was something about color, and glass verses stoneware....
Good job!
Fun to move things around a bit..
Monica
BJ...you my friend are a HOOT!
You make me smile!!!!
Enjoy you lovely new arrangement!!
Blessin's♥
Did you get the giggles doing and re-doing your vignette? I can just see you scurrying back and forth back and forth, scratching your pretty little head .. and giggling all the while. Final rendering looks great!
Morning BJ! Well, I think that it looked really nice in all of the vignettes you created. I'm not so sure about the candles though. Maybe just on the table and not in the holder? I do love the lamp boosted by the books.
I love what you did! Now your adorable bookends are front and center. :)
Everything looks great, and you did most of it by yourself. Just look at the rest of your house - you do good work!!
Good morning, BJ! I hail from over here in eastern NM. I love your blog! Have to check in every morning to get a spot of brightness! I think your house looks beautiful all the time! And the table looks great.
Have a great day,
Janet
Hi BJ! You are funny....LOL
I do not like symmetry and my DH and I are at odds about lining things up and "balance"...
My ducks are not in a row they are scattered but I know where each and every one of them is!
HUGS,
Robin
Hi sweet BJ, have you thought about moving the mirror up a little bit higher . Get hubby to lift it up higher and then you look at the vignette and see if that helps any.Whew ! decisions, decisions !
I like the little vignette you came up with~Don't doubt yourself, you did a great job!
Michelle
Here's what I think BJ... It looked good to me before and everything you did looked good to me... So if you’re happy that is all that matters... It looks simply gorgeous to me now... BUT I do love the bookends... Have fun with it and no stress allowed... If & when I get another home I will be afraid to post pictures... LOL LOL Love YA
(((HUGS)))
Donna
I know this was not supposed to be funny but I have a weird sense of humor and ended up laughing at your post. I think that most of them looked great but what do I know..... :>)
Happy Tuesday from
Roberta Anne
I am back... If you have ever blogged with photos of your kitchen as shown in your header I would love to see them. I am redoing my kitchen and I love that photo.
Roberta Anne
I can't tell you how much I relate to you on decorating. I move stuff over and over and never feel like it's right.
The last look, looks pretty good to me. But shoot, they all looked pretty good to me. lol.
Ginger
PS Had to laugh about the peanut brittle story.
I love the new look BJ! See, just moving things around your house, until YOU are happy with them. That's what I call balance.
Hugs,
Penny
Ohhh B.J. thanks so much for the shout out ! This new vignette looks wonderful and putting the lamp up on the books was just the touch. Now....stop yer tweakin' and go make me a batch of your famous brittle! ha ha...
BJ, you are too funny, girl! Your commentary on this post is priceless. :-)
I like your tablescape, but who am I other than a magpie who loves ALL of your shiny objects! I think you need to fix it like you like it and not worry about people on Rate My Space. You are the one who has to look at it daily and love it. So make yourself happy with it, and we'll be happy for you! In the mean time, I'm loving looking at all the vingnettes you're created. Isn't it FUN? It's called layering, and you seem to be enjoying it! We are, too! :-)
XO,
Sheila
BJ, I love the final results. Have a great day!! Hugs, Terrie
YES! I love the look of your "spot" now. Of course, I pretty much liked it the way it was as well. Does seem like things are connected better though. Try setting your Father Christmas in an arrangement on the little glass table behind your couch. Don't know if that could work or not, but I'm like you, I LIKE Father Christmas. Jean, you don't have to "decorate" because you just naturally love all the things that make your decorating beautiful.
Love you!
Martha
I love the change! it looks fantastic! good work lady!
I love the new look but then, I loved the way it all looked before! I think we all just go through January nblues and start wanting to shift things around. I am doing the same thing myself!
Tweaking is fun can gosh! It CAN be stressing! Can I have some of that peanut brittle now?? : ) Ours is long gone! *laugh*
I loved the peanut brittle comment!
Love,
Sue
I think the new arrangement looks great.
Have a great day!
Hello BJ!
I love your new arrangement, it looks quite wonderful! But I also like many of the others, especially the vase with the sunflowers!:o) You did a beautiful job!
By the way to answer your question regarding my surgery, it is scheduled for February 17th. Keep me in your prayers. :o)
Smiles...
Beverly
Oh BJ...I do love the re-arrangement...but, heck...I liked Father Christmas too! You have so many pretty things to shuffle around...it can be changed again in a week or two... Hugs, :-) Bo
A lot of shuffling around, but the final result is great! And there is one of my favorite Reader's Digest books in such a pretty shade of red. Just right!!! Sally
BJ - First, my 11 year year old granddaughter is here cutting squares for a quilt. She heard your blog music and told me that I should get something like that. I think that your arrangement looks great. I have no sense of scale. I think that I need to post my two gate leg tables because I know that they are not in scale!!! Your crystal decanter and glasses are gorgeous.
Hugs,
Sweetie
Hello dear BJ:-)
So many posts to catch up on!! I think it looks fabulous the way you've got it now...so many bloggers are putting books under their lamps and I'm going to give it a try as well. I have a little round table in my living room that just has a lamp, phone and kleenex box on it so I really have to do something with it! lol
I'm not good at making vignettes so my little fireplace mantle, tables and tv stand leave a lot to be desired. Maybe I should do like you and get ideas from our blogging friends:-) xoxo
Bj the new look is great.... I think the book ends did the trick it gave the black table the gold brown color that is on the mirror and lamp shade thus grounding the look together.... sometimes I spend so much time just doing what you did trying new looks until I hit the right one.... I think you hit it right on.....

BJ, your table looks great, but don't stress about it so much. I came by because I heard such nice things about you and I wanted to meet you. I am just starting and need friends to come by and tell me what is good and what is bad. I am giving away a valentine bracelet, please come by.
If this was RMS I would give you 5 stars! ~ Hugs ~ Robyn
I'm back BJ...just wanted to thank you for voting for Lil Bear. ♥ Bo
Hi BJ~ I love your little re-do. I think it does make a difference. ;-)
Are you serious? Social Security doesn't pay for these kind of things??? That's not right, don't you think? Love the red flowers on the table. Pretty, pretty!
