TEA FOR TWO and TWO FOR TEA...

TEA TIME....
how fun it is...
*
Ladies have been having TEAS for a long long time...
and, here in BLOGLAND, it is so much fun to
PRETEND and PLAY...

Today, I will be using my vintage beautiful
BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFER WARE...
*
Mr. Sweet bought this set for me at a FLEA MARKET...
so so many pieces....and
ALL for FORTY DOLLARS...
*
I just nearly passed out when the lady said $40.00..
They are RIDGWAY STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND, OLD ENGLISH BOUQUET
and just 2 plates at REPLACEMENT LTD. costs more than we paid for the entire set.
*
I wonder and wonder why these beautiful pieces ended up in a FLEA MARKET, of all places....
The two covered "bowls" or tureens on that shelf really don't "match" the set but, o, they really
go well with it.
I found these two pieces at a thrift store and will tell you all about them later..
**
I'm slicing FRESH PINEAPPLE for
a fruity treat with our tea today....
~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't know very much about giving TEAS...but I am learning.
Now, if I have my facts straight, I BELIEVE
LADY KATHERINE says that if you are serving
lots of foods, it is called a HIGH TEA...
*is this right, LADY?
*
The tiny table is set...
come have a seat and I will pour the tea...
*
The creamer and sugar bowl are from another set of blue and white transfer ware...
and the snowy white napkins are wrapped in creme colored crocheted pieces...(from my mom)
*
*
O MY...
there's RUM soaked FRUIT CAKE...one of my favorite treats with tea...
and hot buttery rolls with APRICOT FRUIT jelly .....
Vanilla scented candles....
*
*
Grilled Brown Sugar Glazed Fresh Pineapple slices....
*
If you've never tried these, PLEASE do...
Just slice your fresh pineapple,
sprinkle with a little butter and BROWN SUGAR,
pop beneath the broiler until sugar is melted...
Eat while they are warm.
~~~~~
I never core my fresh pineapple because we LOVE the slightly hard centers....
*

TEA AND CINNAMON TOAST...ummmm
*
My mother used to fix this for me when I was such a little girl
and I, to this very day, can still see and FEEL myself sitting
at the dining table with her....freshly brewed hot tea, full of sugar and milk,
and a BIG beautiful plate of warm CINNAMON TOAST.
bwaaaaaaaa....can you even imagine how much I would love to sit with her again?
I'm so glad you came by SWEET NOTHINGS for tea today...
hope you will come again very soon...
*
PINK ROSES FOR YOU...

Hi BJ, I LOVE the way your sweet Momma is part of so many of your posts, your love for her is beautiful. I bet she's smiling down on this lovely tradition she passed down to you. One of my favorite memories of Momma is seeing her sitting on front steps, sooooo pretty in her starched and ironed dress, waiting for us to get off the school bus. And inside, the smell of freshly baked gingerbread for our afternoon snack. PS Those dishes are sooo pretty!

Justine said...

Oh BJ, those dishes are sooooooooo beautiful and your high tea looks like perfection! Well, except for the fruit cake. Don't you know that no one likes fruit cake? Heeheehee

Your dishes are beautiful! I used to wonder how things wound up at flea markets and yard sales, and I would feel terrible if I saw something wonderful that I really didn't need or want but felt that it was hard to pass up. Since I have started reading the blogs, I have learned that there is always someone to appreciate a bargain and who will love something as much as or even more than the previous owner. That makes passing up a wonderful bargain easier to deal with. It made me smile that you enjoy and appreciate those dishes.
♥, Susan

Blue and white dishes in different patterns always seem to work so well together. My mom has my great grandma's set of blue and white transferware and she mixes it seamlessly with Spode.

You've set a beautiful table!

Oh to have blue transferware! I love your set, BJ. And I would love to be sharing tea, pineapple, and cinnamon toast with ya! It is a favorite of mine and I always keep a little sugar bowl of cinnamon sugar in the pantry just for me - No one else likes it.
Cannot remember, but are you anywhere close to Hereford? My best gal friend from high school grew up there. Her daddy was a Baptist minister. Take care, my friend. Hugs, Sue

It is funny how certain foods remind of us loved ones! I love your tea setting, and I too loved grilled pineapple. Does the center get soft when you grill it? I have always cut it out. Blogging is so educational!
Going back for another look...
you are the queen of link ups, lady!

Yes, BJ you are so right, High Tea is for a meal! What a lovely high tea you have set! I can't believe the price of your lovely blue tranferware! Did you grab it and run? I would have! It is so lovely! But then I do love blue and white! I do love the memories our Mother's shared with us, just like your Mother's Cinnamon Toast! My Mother did the same for me, Cinnamon Toast! I love the pink flowers mixed in! I do love the fruit cake! I usually say I do not, but I use to make one, that my Mother-in-law loved! I made it always for her, but after she died, I never made it again! After seeing yours today, I going to put it on my list of baking! Soon as they let me do a little more! lol I am having fun coming up with food already made! So I can have more fun playing dishes! This is such a lovely tea! Thank You for joining me today for Tea Time Tuesday! I loved so much looking at all your treasures! Oh, and I just want to try the grilled pineapple! I love pineapple, but never had it grilled! Love your wonderful find of the blue tranferware! So lovely!

Love it!! The Lord smiled on Mr. Sweets for all that loot for his lovie!! Who cares if any of those pieces match. They look fantastic together. I think these orphans end up dumped off for $$$ by family members that think it is junk.

Oh My! I shouldn't have looked at this so late in the evening! Looks delicious and very pretty too. I would come to tea at your house anytime! Looks gReat!

I came for the dishes but what caught my attention is the fact that you also are so concerned for our country. Prayer is mighty so we must keep trying.
The dishes are beautiful and that food looks so yummy, now I will have some cinnamon toast for breakfast tomorrow!!!

How strange. I commented on your post..I was positive. Came back today to see if there was anything new...and to ask about "chargers" as that is one of my problems in tablescapes, and I do not see my comment at all. I didn't think you used chargers and am wondering if you ALWAYS have to used them..or rather ..SHOULD use them.
I just don't have chargers except for the cherry ones. Now I have the two birds nest ones...

Ok..now..Your post is precious. Nothing is more striking than a blue and white beautifully laid out table..
I never find sets of china at garage sales...and if I do they are way expensive or something really ugly.
I tell you bj, you have that magic touch! I try to copy you and mine just does NOT look like that.
Of course I give up and walk off...and say "to heck with it!"

As for leaving my comment..I think I write it and check it for error on preview and then leave. :( I'm an idiot! No doubt about it.

Hugs and I LOVE your table. I always do~

Beautiful blues! Yummy servings! I had come by earlier and couldn't see photos (anywhere I went) but they're there now. BUT I saw your other post, the one about the shelf. Well, my husband was in the truck running errands and had some stuff for Goodwill/Salvation ARmy. I called him, hold up on that wooden divider thing ... I want it back. Just when I was about to get rid of it - it's not a shelf it's a divider thing that goes in a secretary (very deep "shelf" but not big)... you gave me some ideas. Thanks! Jenn <><
