Metamorphois of a guest room....3/15/10

I always feel like a VERY BRAVE girl when I post any of my rooms here at Sweet Nothings...
No way can I compete with the beautiful rooms in all of Blogland.
But since ya'll are so sweet, I feel like we're all sister friends and can SHARE IT ALL...
**
One of our TINY guest rooms also housed my computer and desk for several years...
After considerable thought, I have moved my computer and will show you the spot in another posting....
**
TODAY, however, I am showing what I'm trying to get done to make this little cozy room presentable to some guest we are expecting in a couple of weeks...
I just finished the redo of one of the guest rooms..but I need to make this other one CUTE, if nothing else...
**
As some of you know...
THIS
is the room I WANT...
**
I have to take it slowly in gathering all the items needed to
come anywhere CLOSE to this beauty, tho...
**
New paint, new comforter sets, new bedskirts....new beds....and actually need new flooring..
EVERYTHING NEW...
and I just don't have the funds to do it OVERNIGHT..
* wish I could....but....I can't..
*

Here's the little room....using a function in PHOTOSCAPE...
Such fun...
The little room is FAR too UGLY right now to be showing the WORLD...
but.......
**
ANYway...this is a full size vintage iron bed that I will continue
to use until I am ready for the INSPIRATION room to come to life...
*

I refreshed the walls with another coat of creamy COUNTRY WHITE..
I had enough left over from the re-do of the OTHER guest room so
that meant no money spent on new paint..
I can now afford the BLUE paint in the Inspiration Room when the time is right.....
*
This fresh coat of paint makes it lighter, brighter and a WHOLE lot better looking..
*

Using the things I have, I've decided to go with
a GARDEN theme...
*
The little, yard long picture of the little family of roadrunners, is crewel work that my mother
did, 40 years ago, while she was recovering from a triple bypass surgery.
I am so so glad to have it....
*
I have a lot of vintage wicker pieces to put in this room
and transform it into a GARDEN for my guests....
I need a BIRD HOUSE in here....FOR SURE !
I just now thought of this....
I think I have JUST THE ONE....
OOO, and the upper middle photo...
that goofy border and the little window toppers.
O, how I wish I could afford 4 windows of wooden SHUTTERS....*sigh...
I'll keep watching garage sales and thrift shops...
ONE NEVER KNOWS !!...!!
*
A little wicker table that MR. SWEET bought for me about 46 years ago...
It was olden THEN so it's REALLY an old piece now...
and I still love it...
*
Wicker is PERFECT for a garden room...
I have a beautiful vintage wicker loveseat that will be in this room
but it needs new cushions before I put it there.3 coffee cups....
2 for Mr. Sweet's cousin and hubby..
and one for me.

*

Mr. Sweet doesn't drink coffee.....at all....gives him AWFUL headaches !! The caffine....
*
I doubt very seriously that they will allow me to serve them
BREAKFAST IN BED...
but I would LOVE to !!
**
I love getting back into my cozy bed in the afternoon, with a snack...
then a nap.....and then another snack ! :O)
O my...I am such a lazy one !!!
**
My vintage wicker bed tray was found at the BEST garage sale many years ago...
It needs a new dress of COTTAGE WHITE and I hope to get it done before THEY get here....
*

I have a WALLPAPER border to remove when the time comes for the COMPLETE makeover of this little room....

In the meantime...the flowered border ties right in with a garden bedroom and I am "making out like" it looks FABULOUS !!

I am linking with MET MONDAY....SHOW OFF YOUR COTTAGE MONDAY.....MOSAIC MONDAY

Your inspiration room is gorgeous, but I love the wicker room too. It is beautiful. If you want to eleminate the striped curtains and the border, I recently made some adoreable curtains out of a sheet I bought at Walmart. They have a twin size that sells for under $3 and that's a ton of fabric. So simple and looks wonderful. Might be a thought. I just bought 2, used the top to slip a rod through and then tied them back and they look so light and breezy and just the perfect thing for a cottagy room. I can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty

I saw that inspiration photo somewhere, and loved it, too. I'm sure your guests will feel just as pampered in your charming garden setting, though. In your search for shutters, be sure to check ebay. We have been able over several years to purchase shutters for our whole house there really cheap. Sally

I love the inspiration room, BJ. It is SO you, with the black, white and red and I am sure you are going to have no problem turning your guest room into that picture.

I love the garden room. Sometimes we have things so long, we don't see them the way others do for the first time. This room reminds me of so many rooms I have seen in B & B's and I have stayed at quite a few. So I don't think you have far to go to have it the way you want and it is going to be lovelier than it already is. You have fabulous ideas, my friend!

OH MY GOODNESS! HOW I would just love to be a guest of yours...
You are so hospitable..
I can't wait for your guest room to become a reality for you. Mine is going to stay the same way. It is freshly painted and that is all the poor thing is getting. I try not to pile things in there..I really do..but..(hanging head) I do now and then. It's better since we painted it...new carpet did give it a live. But...HOW I would love to have one in the colors your's is going to be! So cute!
I am thinking "bed" and nap right now too. :)
Hugs,
Mona
oh..yes...a snack! :)

BJ...your room is already wonderful...I love the cottage look! Your guest are going to love it, also! Love your inspiration pic. If I ever get brave enough to tackle my son's old room, I want to put two single beds in there, too. Love that look! I bet you'll be able to find the beds at a thrift store or somewhere not so expensive. I bought the matalasee I have on my queen bed in my room for only $30 at HomeGoods/TJMAX. They wanted over a $100 for one just like it at Dillards! You could find white ones at HomeGoods, too, I bet. In the meantime, your guest room is just beautiful and inviting!

I love your "garden" guest room, BJ. It's just perfect, and I know your company is going to feel honored that you went to so much trouble for them.

It's so nice to use things that are special to you, like your mother's crewel work and the table Mr. Sweet gave you. I know they make you smile every time you see them.

Stacey said...

BJ, your guests will be so happy to spend time there with you. The room is perfect!

You should see our guest room now. Our house has 4 bedrooms which used to give us a real guest room. Then hubby started working out of our home. Now it's 1/2 guest room & 1/2 office. Our guests share the space with a big desk and lots of his vision equipment. Can't be helped and I try not to worry about it.

Justine said...

Oh, I think this room will do for now!!! You've got so many pretty things to look at in there that I think we can ignore the border paper. Great job, BJ!!!

Justine :o )

It's a beautiful guest room, BJ!

I love the inspiration image.

Miss Gabi is going to get the 3/4 antique iron bed that is up in the bonus room/studio. I'm turning that room into a little office for me. It will be a little bit like being in a tree house!

I think your guest room is charming as is, and I know the best part of being a guest in your home would be the love you give and the fun someone would have being with you! I look forward to seeing the cahnges you make, the inspiration room is so beautiful, do you know, I still havent found the magazine you found it in yet? I think things come out at differnt times in different parts of the country.
