RED and APPLE CAKE....

MARY at WORKS OF THE POET is hosting this very RED day...
Thanks so much!!
***

Remember the bright red, perfect little PINK LADY apples we picked at the orchard this week ?
So perfect that everyone just KNOWS they are fake...until they take a bite, that is...
Ummmm
**
I wanted to make a cake for my friend that is having a few health problems right now...
Thought an apple cake would just make her feel better !
***

Sooo, I got out SOME of my cookbooks that I thought might have a good recipe for an
apple cake..
**
....and, I DID find a good sounding one in my ISN'T LIFE DELICIOUS cookbook...
**
I love this old gym locker basket with the number 65 on it....it's perfect to hold some of my
favorite cookbooks...and looks good sitting on the bakers rack.
I bought two of these little wire baskets at a garage sale about 10 years ago for 50 cents a piece.
These were the only two she had....I would have bought 50 if I could!! :O)
****

OF COURSE, I had to put my beautiful black and white apron on before I started cooking !!
Sweet PENNY had KATHY make this for me and I have never been so surprised in my entire
loooong life....and so delighted !!
***

I gathered all the ingredients together ....
**
I have tried, all my life, to peel an apple without the skin breaking...just one long apple skin !
I never have been able to do it...
O, and the grating of the apples....I didn't like that one bit. Afraid I was going to skin my fingers and nearly did !
I am pretty sure they make better graters than I have !! ??
***
AND...if this apple cake is really good....I'll post the recipe a little later...
AFTER MARTHA and I give it the TASTE TEST !!
There's an apple cake recipe, made in a cast iron skillet, over at THE PIONEER WOMAN COOKS..
I am going to try it next....

:o)

I hope you are having a wonderful day...
I love all of you and I thank you so much for coming by to see me.

Ok BJ... you've done it now... I'm drooling for some apple cake, apple pie, apple dumplings, apple cobbler, apple coffeecake, apple butter, apple everything! It's apple time here in Ohio & I can see I'm gonna have to go pickin'! MMMMMmmmmmm

Fabulous basket!! Can't find those babies anymore, not for a song anyway. Your cookbooks look so adorable in them, great storage with nostalgic style even though I want to forget those ugly gym suits we wore and stored in them!! LOL

Big hugs, Sherry

Hello BJ! I haven't stopped by in awhile...but I have lurked! As always I enjoy your blog. You make me want to bake with that cake idea of yours. Here in Michigan we are having very cold windy weather, the perfect kind to bake in and make the our homes smell wonderful. Hope you enjoy your time with your friend and I hope she is on the mend soon!

BJ, every time I go to Home Goods or Marshall's, I think of you! Every time I see black and white or red, I do, too! And speaking of seeing, I miss seeing you... my computer is still away from me, and I'm on Adelaide's right now trying to visit some of my blogging buddies.

That last photograph looks like it came straight from the pages of a magazine. Girl, that one is a definite keeper. Love all of your cute things in this post... that apron is the bee's knees.

Sending you much love...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi BJ, love those Pink Lady apples. I brought apples home from MI. My favorites are Macintosh. I didn't have the fun of picking them though. On our farm in MI many years ago my dad planted an apple orchard. Did I tell you this? The orchard is still there but there are homes built in between the apple trees. I guess the property was sold off but many of the trees survived. I wanted to walk through the orchard but it is all private property now. Sigh. Our farm house is still there and in great shape for being over one hundred years old. Someone loves the old homestead as much as we did.

I know your apple cake was delicious. I have never grated apples. I did have an awesome apple peeler but my daughter begged it away from me. Darn, I could use it right now. LOL. I think our children rule more all the time. That's ok I know when to put my foot down. Laughing here!!!

Have a wonderful day BJ. I love your header. Darn, mine will never change. It is way too much trouble.

Hugs xoxo, Jeanne

Mmmm, you can send one of those to me anytime you'd like! :) LOL! Thanks for stopping by the blog yesterday bj! I can't wait to see what you do with those little birds! :) Oh - and the door, (leaning against the wall in the living room) that's from a Victorian garage door. I found it at an antique store in Ellicotville, NY and paid about $10 for it I think. I thought it was painted brown, but when I started to clean it up preparing to sand it down, I noticed that it was just a thick layer of dirt over the natural wood. So I kept cleaning and then propped it against the wall to balance out the cabinet on the otherside of the doors. It's been there ever since. Definitely one of my favorite pieces of the whole house! I'm glad you liked it too!
