NEEDED !! .....your help on my kitchen cabinets

RECENT UPDATE 11:30
Thank you, thank you, thank you , sweet ladies, for ALL these fabulous ideas....I am so excited I can hardly sit here...I won't be around YOUR blogs today because, guess what!?! I am off to pick up some fabric and paper . I will most likely come home with several different styles and colors and, hopefully, I can try a few, take pictures and let you tell me which might look good. Actually, I don't want GOOD...I want, in the words of our sweet sisters, K & K, "FABULOUS WONDERFULNESS!!"
I'll see ya'll this evening, tho......and thanks again!
*********************************************************

Most of you have seen this view below of my kitchen.....these cabinets were just builder- grade plywood and sooo ugly when we bought this 50's ranch over 30 years ago. I couldn't afford all new cabinet doors so Sweet Hubby used his router and made the doors look like bead board. I painted all the original hardware black and the cabinets came out looking really good, even tho they are vintage. They go very well with the age of the house and someday *sigh*.....we MIGHT get new counter tops....not granite but pretty ones, nonetheless! Until then, I can live with the butcher block look-alike counter tops for awhile longer.

.....oh.....don't forget to LOOK at my cute little tea kettle there on the stove.....:)

I am needing to add some 'pizazz' to some of my OTHER kitchen cabinets....the ones with the glass doors. Right now, the insides are the same creme color as the outside. On a blog, but I can't remember WHO'S, she had painted the inside of the cabinets a different color and just made things in the cabinet POP.....

My upper cabinets are creme, the walls are pale sage and the bottom cabinets are colonial red....The doors on the cabinets on either side of this window are glass.

In this picture, you can see the green walls, the red cabinets and now I want you to tell me WHAT COLOR, IF ANY, would look good behind this glass ! The same red, perhaps the sage, a sunshine yellow, or am I getting a kitchen that resembles the COLOR WHEEL?

The inside looks BLUE in this picture, for some unknown reason..... I KNOW FOR A FACT that I do NOT want BLUE......

Since I can't decide nor see "in my mind's eye" what would look fabulous here, I may just need to leave them as is.......???? I like it so much better when I get an idea and know JUST what I want. I don't like the indecision of trying to choose a color....Actually, I am thinking it is beginning to look a lot like spring and when spring comes, I ALWAYS want to start fluffing, moving, changing things around......Wonder how BLACK would look on the inside of the cabinets?! Oh, dear...my thoughts are getting out of hand, I can tell...... This is why I come to you to HELP me....please and thank you!

HAPPY DAY ~

I really love your cabinets...just lovely! Can you paint them sage inside? Hmmm...not sure.

How about spraying a piece of cardboard and put in behind the dishes on one of the shelves. Try several different colors and see how that would look. Also I think it depends on what you are displaying on the shelves. If the dishes are all white...black just might be the color to make them really "pop"

Good morning bj,
Here is my kitchen idea. Paint ALL the cabinets country white, change out the hardware to brass or gold, paint your kitchen walls a deep red, and put up black and white toile curtains. You could even paint the inside back wall of your glass cabinets red too. French Country Kitchen! Don't forget to display a big bright rooster somewhere.
Just an idea! Have a great day!

Morning BJ,
I'm up early today cause I am going to babysit my sweet Josie today! :O)

Have you ever thought about using material in the back of the cabinets? You soak it in liquid starch and put it on like wall paper. That might give you an idea of how color would look in there. Maybe a pattern that would tie all your colors together. If you don't like it just take it off!! Can you tell I'm scared of color? LOL

I love your cabinets and I love the red on the bottom ones! :O)

I have tagged you for a meme if you haven't already played.

Hugs,
Hope

Good Morning BJ,
I forgot about a famous group on my comment yesterday. Last year the Saturday before Mother's Day, my DH took me to see Molly Hatchett. They were a heavy metal band from days gone by. LOL. He even bought me a PINK hat and I got all of their autographs on it too. I love your kitchen cabinets. Now this is just an idea of mine. How about putting up some chicken wire on the walls of your cabinets? Maybe paint them a yellow color and then let it dry and then put up the chicken wire? I know you will come up with something tho. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

My suggestion would be to go to a craft store and buy paper with the same design that is on your tea kettle. Use double backed tape and back your cupboards with it.

By the way, I have seen that tea kettle somewhere and I think you paid a small fortune for it. I would love to have one like it! Hmmmmmm.

Hmmm . How about the same red as the bottom cabinets, but paint it on cardboard like someone suggested. just to try it out.Or how about if you can find another home for the dishes that are in there, add some cute rooster dishes in the red, cream greem yellow colors, a little quick change. I like your kitchen, I get in that same mood to change things around and "fluff" it up a bit. Have a great day, Janie

Hi BJ
I like Hope's idea with the fabric, or you could use scrapbook paper and double sided tape. Maybe a print that has the green, red and creamy white all together? Easy to change and cheap!

I like Amelia's idea of the cardboard, and Janie's idea of the same red as your bottom cabinets, that would pull it all together... IMHO... ;)

I agree..... the Nestor did a post on using scrap book paper to line the back of her hutch. She used a black and white print. It looked marvelous!! Rhondi at Southern Hospitality did the same thing.....again, fantastic. I want to do this with my red hutch. It;s so dark on the inside it needs something to make it pop!. If you need any links just email me. :-) Rosie

p.s. Please don't touch those red and white cupboards!! If you do I might just have to come done there and turn you over my knee!! LOL

OH Bj everybody has great ideas for you. It sound like your mind is going to be busy for a while. I thing all the ideas are great but anything with toile in it would be great. I think you should leave the white white and paint the red black. and add some toile curtains like the Kelly had said.Maybe a red toile. But I am not good a this kinda of think. Let us know what you decide.

Hi BJ! It's "Suesue" here from RMS. I love your white cabinets with black hardware!! I really like the idea of using some of the beautiful craft papers out there in the stores. Maybe a black/white toile pattern of paper or fabric? I think it would lend a nice balance and look great with your other touches of black and red. Can't wait to see what you do. Take care and I really enjoy looking at your blog!

I love all of the ideas!!!
Makes my mind get to thinking.
I think the fabric thing would be good. Maybe something like a red print.

Your kitchen already looks like something out of a magazine though !!

Hi BJ,

Wow, you received some nice suggestions here. I like the idea of the country french kitchen. Paint the walls red, and I would go with something toile in the back of the cabinets and maybe a little valance on the window to match. Gold hardware on the cabinets. Try the papers in the back of the cabinet to get an idea how it would look.

Or you could go for a golden yellow on the walls, and behind the cabinet doors. Leave the cabinets as is. Put a few roosters in there, and a few black accents.
Keeping with the country theme. Your accessories could be black, red, yellow. I like the idea of the chicken wire too. So many decisions. Let us know what you decide.

Okay, my thoughts... You could paint them the same color as the wall like I did or I think it would be really cute to find a wallpaper in the colors of your kitchen to tack inside. Then you can change it up whenever you want.

Hi BJ!
I LOVE your kitchen! I wouldn't change a thing! The red cabinets are exactly something I would love to have in mine - that's the color of my front door but have never thought to paint the cabinets that color. They look awesome!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog & entering my Blogaversary Give-away! I'm so happy to meet you!

I like Rue's idea of a wallpaper coordinating the other colors of the kitchen. So you can change it when you get tired of it.

BJ, I just love your kitchen just the way it is. All the colors just tie in together. Very nice.
