We had such a nice birthday get-together for our daughter, STACY LEIGH today, 4/29/12.
We went to Rosa's Mexican Food to eat...
She and her youngest son, BROOKS...
...her brother and sis in law, DAVID and KATHY
...her Dad and sweetie, JENT.
Then it was back to our house for cake, ice cream and presents...
(yep, Mr. Sweet and I had a small slice....)
(yep, Mr. Sweet and I had a small slice....)
She had been wanting the pretty green, ceramic garden stool for ev er....
As soon as it went on sale at Ballards, I ordered it...
She loves it.
I love her.
Beautiful time on a cloudy birthday and then....
ALL "HAIL" BROKE LOOSE....
Winds measured at 95 miles per hour,
SOFTball size HAIL...
Right over her house...
They went to their basement and
could hear glass breaking, smell rain and soon, the basement became cold.
They were safe...hunkered down in their basement with a futon cover over them.
She called and told us everything that was going on...(Thank God for cell phones)
We were all afraid her house, or at least, parts of her house, would be gone.
A tornado had been sighted...but thankfully, didn't touch down.
After the sounds stopped, she crept back upstairs...
Her house was still there....
They live about 12 miles from us in the little town of Wolfforth.
They live about 12 miles from us in the little town of Wolfforth.
All the windows were broken on the front of her home.
This one is a huge window with the arched window above....blown out.
Living room full of water and glass.
She said it looked to her like the damage was done by the hurricane speed winds
and the soft ball sized hail.
Plywood was put on all the exploded windows ...
the insurance adjuster will be coming tomorrow or the next day.
Mr. Sweet and Jent measured the windows, cut the plywood and
Mr. Sweet held the ladder securely at the bottom while Jent climbed that HIGH ladder.
Poor Jent,
ONE MORE WINDOW but, boy, it sure is high up there.
GOT IT !

Jent had just left town for a week's business trip so Stacy was alone
with her two daughters and wondering if her son was safe at Cracker Barrel where he works...
but, he was.
Jent turned around and drove all night to get back home.

This will be a birthday she won't soon forget.

O....the cake ?
I baked an Angel Food, tinted it with light pink,
split the cake thru the middle,
scooped out a little cake TRENCH and filled with REAL whipped cream and diced strawberries...
put the top back on,
covered the entire cake with REAL whipped cream and more strawberries.

so sorry for the damage to your daughter's home, but so glad it wasn't worse! glad jent was able to return home to get things battered down! yikes!
What an awful lot of damage. I hope that everything can be fixed and replaced. That sounds so scary!
Stay safe out there and may these storms dissipate as quickly as they get going.
Lovely party! So glad that you daughter and family are o.k..
Best,
Bonnie
BJ,
I heard there was bad weather in and around Lubbock, I am so grateful that you and your family are ok. It looks like a great birthday party, your daughter is beautiful. Ya'll take care up there and stay out of the weather.

Oh BJ Sweetie...
Yes what a birthday for your sweet daughter to remember. WOW...This storm did some major damage to their beautiful home, but they are all okay so that is what is important. Like you said the adjustor will come and they can replace those windows.
Jent sure was high up there on that ladder. Yikes. Thank goodness he could come back to the rescue.
I do not miss those Oklahoma storms we had. I love living in the desert. We just get dust storms here, and occasionally a few rain drops if we are lucky.
Your cake looks so yummy. Thanks for sharing it with me. I love angel food cake.
Have a good safe rest of the evening. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
My goodness!! What a scary, wierd, exciting, fun day - all rolled into one!! That is the one good thing about moving to Virginia near DC - VERy, VERY few tornadoes.
My goodness...I didn't know you had these kind of storms down in Texas. It sounds like Illinois! I am so glad everyone is safe, they took the right precautions!
XO,
Jane
I don't know whether to say that I think their house is gorgeous or wow....that must have been some storm. But, no one got hurt and that's the main thing. Family. You can't beat it.
Thank God they are okay cause a house can be rebuilt. Love what you said about the garden stool and loving her...terribly sweet BJ.
Good grief! We get high winds here..(my lovely big yellow umbrella just got broken in half from high winds) but mercy, NOT like what hit your daughter.
Texas? Really? bj...you sure you don' wanna move to California and worry about earthquakes! :) We are having little tremblers a lot lately. Just enough to rattle our pots and pans...RATTLES me!
I am so glad your daughter and children are all fine...so..now...where's my piece of cake???
Her husband is ...WONDERFUL! Your family is amaziing!
Well first of all, thank the good Lord that your daughter and her family were okay!!! What a close call! Those tornados must be terrifying!! Next...happy birthday to your girl. She is lovely. And such nice looking kids too. What a job to cover up all of those windows!
The cake looked and sounded divine!!!
Kris
How blessed they weren't hurt and the house not as badly damaged as it could be!
The cake looks GOOD! I made a sour cream pound cake last night to take up to the hospital in the morning.
And I like the wat you play with your pretty pictures!
I am so glad that Stacy (happy birthday!)and her family are ok, but that must have been terrifying! I love how your family comes together for each other, what a blessing:>)

Definitely a birthday she won't soon forget, but thank goodness they are ok! The whole ordeal must have been so scary.
Wow, what a scary experience! Thankfully your family are all safe! The windows can be replaced. Your celebration looked like a fun one, full of love!
My goodness that is something else. Glad everyone was safe though. Reminds me of the hurricanes we endured while living in South Florida. That plywood looked all too familiar.
Well, that is surely a birthday she will remember! I am soooo happy that no one was hurt but sorry about the damage to their home! Have a blessed day my friend, HUGS!
hi BJ! Ok , followin Google and Linky.....actually thought I was already....I'm waiting for my chocolate.....don't play with me.
LOL. Glad all is well. You wouldn't think it, but storms like that happen here in Ohio all the time. Straight Line Winds they're callin em. We're expected to have pop=up storms all week!
Amazing! We don't get weather extremes like that here and I can't imagine dealing with extreme winds and huge hail. I happy that your daughter and family were OK and that you all have a lovely birthday party. You have a beautiful family, BJ.
Lovely Birthday!
But such a sad happening, after. All that damage. -sigh- But still it could have been worse.
BEST OF LUCK with continuing bad weather! Keep us posted, on your safety, please...

A Happy Birthday with many memories. What a beautiful "tall" house......can't believe that all the windows blew out like that. Such strong winds. So glad that theya re all okay. Geez, this weather.
Cake looks so yummy.
I am so glad your daughter and family are all OK. So far this year the weather has been crazy. So sorry their house had some damage but insurance and take care of that. The main thing is that they are all OK. She is a very pretty lady and so are her children. The cake looked so yummy. Have a blessed day. Madeline
Looks like you had a wonderful celebration. You have a beautiful family BJ. Belated Happy Birthday to Stacey Leigh!

I am just now getting around blogland! I am sooo sooo sorry about your daughter's home...AND on her birthday! How awful. The blessing is that they are all safe and THINGS can be replaced and loved ones can't!
The weather has just been so weird this year all the way around. You aren't all that far from her and it apparently didn't touch you at all?
Your cake, as everything you make, looks scrumptious, Bj. I hope you took a bite for me! xo Diana

Oh my goodness!! I'm so glad that all are safe, but that must have been so scary. I am so afraid of storms like that.

BJ,
So thankful Stacy and her family are safe!!! As I told "Mr. Ed" when the sirens were sounding here..."as long as we're together...we can begin again!" Windows can be replaced...water damage repaired. Praise God your daughter and her family were spared!
Fondly,
Pat
