MY VINTAGE DINING TABLE...

THANKS to DIANE for hosting another
2ND TIME AROUND TUESDAY
*

When Mr. Sweet and I decided to convert our garage to
a much needed dining room (remember, I think that was my
first 2ND TIME AROUND posting)
we knew we needed a TABLE....a LONG table
since we have (now) 17 precious people in our immediate family...
*
We STAY on a budget...a Social Security budget
so ......
I went THRIFTING...
*
I found this amazing 8 1/2 foot long dining table that
sits 10 comfortably and 12 in a pinch....
having the rounded corners allows to sit more people around the table...
*
This beauty was so well cared for...not a scratch nor a ding...
NOW...
NOT wanting 10 0r 12 chairs around...
Mr. Sweet built 2 long benches that will hold 3 on each one....
(or 4 little bottoms :O)
I painted these in BLUE and WHITE....
*
The cabinet that Mr. Sweet made, there in the background,
matches the table and chairs...which is a lucky thing
on my part...I just happened to choose the right stain when he finished it...
*
There were only 4 arm chairs that came with the table...
Instead of searching for more to match, I prefer to use
two wicker arm chairs at the ends, when needed...
*
i am actually keeping my eyes open for a darling
little loveseat to add to one side...
(like TINA'S at CHERRY HILL COTTAGE....SHHHHH, DON'T tell her...she already feels like I am STALKING her cottage !!)
The blue and white large rug was a LUCKY garage sale find that belonged to a friend
of Beautiful Daughter's...
she CUT ME A DEAL on it, too !!
a $600.00 rug, in PERFECT condition for......$25.00
THANK YOU SO MUCH, JANET....
*

Looking into the dining room from the kitchen, thru the pass-thru...
I ALWAYS use tableclothes...
I just love them !!

What a lucky find. I love large tables. I have one that is round but has 4 leaves and I can also seat 12. I think they are the greatest. You can just add however many leaves you need. Your dining room is just gorgeous. I love all of the beautiful furniture and accessories. Very pretty. Hugs, Marty

What a wonderful table! I need a table like that! We have a table that seats 6. But our dining room would not fit a larger table. Actually I need your dining room!

I used to have an oak that could seat up to eight but since we're in an apt. no can keep so we gave it to our next door neighbor's mom who's always wanted an oak table with a leaf!

Great finds, BJ! Love the table and the rug!

Hi BJ -
I always love to see your beautiful dining room. And I only wish mine was the size of yours - it would be nice. Mine is very small but my table is nearly like yours. The base of yours is different but the color, shape and style are the same. Great minds think alike, they say. Thank you for sharing your wonderful room with us again. You found a great deal and I love the idea of benches. I have eight chairs to deal with, for which I'm thankful, but it's hard to store the extras when it's just the two of us. Your sweety is so talented. He can come to my house and build things any time he wants to bring you and come visit!

I love it I love it!!!

Like you, I am always on a look-out. I needed to do my livingroom and had been dreaming of a fireplace surround (I don't have a fire place in my tine apartment, so a surround will at least mark the area.) I managed to get a beautiful one in perfect condition from Ebay for (UK) £18. I later found out that it is a gunuine, original Art Deco surround worth £400-500. Also I managed to find two lovely cream leather arm chairs for £5 (!!!) for both of them.

If you're interested to have a look, I think there are pictures of the fire-surround on the Christmas decoration blog (tags).

Love reading your blog!!

What a beautiful table, BJ. Isn't it nice to have room for all your family and not be crowded. I'm sure there have been lots of good memories recalled and made around that table ... and in that pretty room.

Morning, Ms. B. Jness! Oh, I love your big table and how beautiful it is! Your Mr. Sweet is amazing! That cabinet he built is wonderful! Oh, I wish Mr. Precious had some of those skills, but alas, nope he don't! :)
Be a sweetie,

This table so much reminds me of the table Momma and Daddy had and now is owned by my sister. It was a darker stain, more of a walnut color, but this exact style, and yes could seat 12 on any given Sunday afternoon or special occasion! Wonderful find and I LOVE your dining room! Thanks for sharing with us!

Many hugs.........

Diane

You lucky girl, you must be living right. I love the table. We have one in our breakfast room that is similar and has several leaves to extend and it's so much fun to all be around one table, don't you think! Our table belonged to my grandmother - she bought it in 1902and the memories with it are priceless.
Happy Twirls,
PS Stawberries are cute cute cute!
