My mom and dad married in 1957. I grew up listening to the music of the 50's and hearing all about what a great time it was. I still LOVE the music! Saddle oxfords got recycled during the early 70's and were my favorite shoes; well that is until wedges came agong! I had at least 3 pair of saddle oxfords. I loved this post; so happy and carefree....I could use a lot of that right now! Thank you for this wonderful diversion!
Diane
Ahhh, those were the days BJ... if only our grands could have that much simpler, safer world... you really got me with your choice of hunk today...heehee ;-) Bo

BJ - I love your post. Such wonderful memories of a great time. I'm envious. I only had one poodle skirt and I loved it. I wish that I would have kept it. We had a hangout where everyone went after school and after ball games. Your post is precious. Happy Blue Monday,

I was a teen in the 80's ... the weird BIG HAIR and strange clothes that looked like we were wearing football gear under our shirts. lol Nothin' says 80's like some big honkin' shoulder pads. Ick.

I would have loved to see you in those poodle skirts. Perhaps I should make some for my shop! LOL
thanks for the look back in time BJ! I was born in '55, for me the 60' and 70's were the best but thats only because I was too young to enjoy the 50's. What we have going on today, I would give anything to be back to the 50's!! Fun, fun post!! xoxo
BJ...I can see you now(grin)in your little poodle skirt...flirtin with the Soda Jerks! I bet you got treated to plenty of "floats" with of course two straws! Hey...Route 66....I believe she starts right here in Joliet.....winds around about a mile from me! Wanna come down and get some Kicks on Rout 66?

Afternoon, BJNESS! Oh, this was so much fun. I could hear the theme from "Happy Days" playing! I loved Roy Rogers so much! We were in California a few years back and went into the Roy Rogers museum. It was so wonderful and we saw that Trigger! I believe Dale's horse, Buttermilk, was there too!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Great trip down memory lane, BJ!
Oh my what a crazy, fun post! I was born in the 50's and wasn't a teen until the 60's but I had older cousins who were crazy about Elvis! And some of them even had poodle skirts....I always thought they were so cool and so grownup! I do remember loving to watch Roy Rogers and Del Evans on Saturday morning. My sisters and I wouldn't miss it! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Elaine :)

Hi BJ, you just made me miss the
50's. I would love to see you in a poodle skirt. Do you have a picture?...Christine
I always said if I could live in a different time, it would be the 50's, they had great clothes, and just seemed to be dancing all the time! What a super memory-filled post! Love your blog!
Bj.. what a wonderful stroll down memory lane. One of the first songs Mr. P and I danced to was one by Elvis..oh this was just too sweet a treat..
I know what you mean about the meds.. bless his heart he struggles with remembering at times, so I'm constantly monitoring what he takes now. I pray your condition is doing ok.. it's such a shame that our bodies betray us the older we get isn't it? I hope you've had a super Blue Monday. hugs ~lynne~
Oh, I loved this! Sure brought back some great memories. Those pictures were just too fun, and those t.v. memories-Great! Thanks for putting a big ole smile on my face! laurie
I was born in 1957 but I've always said I should have been a teenager by then because I've always loved the 50's so much, from the style to the music and of course I'm a huge Elvis fan:-) Such a fun post, dear B.J.!! xoxo
Great post, bj ... so many of my favorite shows and entertainers! I LOVED Make Room For Daddy, and Angela Cartwright was who I wanted to be "when I grew up," even after she made the move to Lost In Space :o)
When I was still in college in Los Angeles (mid-70s), I worked for Roy Roger's son-in-law, his daughter Cheryl's husband. I can confirm that, yes, Trigger was stuffed and put on display in the original Roy Rogers Museum, in Apple Valley, California, near the ranch where Roy and Dale were living at the time. The museum -- which didn't get a lot of traffic out in the California desert -- was moved to Branson, MO, in 2003, and Trigger's just waitin' for you to show up and take an ogle or two :o) Roy and Dale were both buried at Sunset Hills Cemetary in Apple Valley (about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles), and there is a memorial chapel there in their honor. Roy's son Dusty lives in Branson and performs daily with his band, and I lost track of Cheryl over the years. Cheryl is Roy's oldest child, adopted by Roy and his second wife, Arline. Dusty is Roy & Arline's own child, and Arline died a few days after Dusty's birth. Dale was their stepmom, and she and Roy had additional children together, plus adopted several more. They were a gracious and lovely couple, and I enjoyed the time I spent with them during family activities, weddings, and holidays while working for their son-in-law.
Thanks for the stroll down Memory Lane!
Victoria
What a fun read and so many happy memories. I loved Route 66 and had crushes on both the heros. I still love to watch Lucy - she was one of a kind.
BJ, I LOVE your 50's theme post! ;) I was born in 56, and I just loved everything about the that era., and the stars of that time! Lucy, Elvis, the movies were so great then! Thanks for the rewind, Loved it! ~CC Catherine
