Okay, first of all, sorry about that double post!
Oh, BJ, I feel your pain luv! I have at least two rooms that have to have border torn down that has been up there for 19 years. I am now in my MIL's house and redecorating, much to her chagrin! It is mine now, and I just have to do some things. I love her dearly but our tastes just are not the same!
Now, GOOD GOLLY, MISS MOLLY! is right! Whoooooo Weeeee! Of course, he could be my son! Lord, I feel old now! :)
Have a great day BJ!
Diane
You must have used a really good glue for your borders.:) Yesterday when we were taking the blue trim tape off the boarder, it pulled some of it loose in the breakfast room. Now, I have to get some patch glue to glue it back. Oh well, you'll get it all down someday. :) You're hunk for today is the sexiest one yet. Love this one. I'm going to Michaels today, wanna go?
Love Ya,
Chris
Oh, bless you! I need to do the same thing in my kitchen, but I just haven't summoned the gumption yet.
Love the photo of the Mr. Pitt:-)
Rhonda
Oh dear! Have you tried dampening it with hot water before you strip it? I even heard someone say liquid fabric softener helps loosen the glue. When I strip old paper I always dampen it and it really does help.
I do believe that red jackets start my day with a smile. ;-)
Good for you! Did you decide on a paint color for your bedroom?
I feel your pain. Stripping wall paper border is, or can be, awful. I did the fabric softener thing and it worked. You have to use a wallpaper doggie (a thing that makes little holes all over the strip) so that the liquid can soak in.
I hate wallpaper and boarder...Love the way it looks...hate the way it comes down!
So I know exactly what you are going through!!!
I hope you are not planning to hang more...are you?!
Brad Pitt is such a "Hottie". and yes, I would definately classify that jacket as being red! And if it isn't...who cares!
Are you soaking that boarder really good with warm water in a spray bottle first? Ususally if you do that you can use a spatula to scrape it off. I'd help if I lived closer 'cause I've taken plenty down. Good luck.
I'm so glad you and Dot are paving the way for me with that wallpaper removal. It will be good to be fresh and new though!
Ah... Brad Pitt is cute!! :-)
I liked him alot better when he dated Jennifer though.. I don't like Angelina as much...
I had those borders in my kids room... I just covered up their whole wall with "new" walls...paneling, actually!
Monica
I still have borders. (GASP!)
I still like borders. (OH MY! SHE'S WORSE THAN WE'D THOUGHT!)
I've got the remedy for your situation, CALL PICKET ASAP, and get the fig newtons ready!
I feel your pain! I don't have borders, but 3 bathrooms with wallpaper on ALL the walls. I want it to go away, but I don't want to get started because I know how much work it will be! Good luck girl!
Carol
Oh BJ...I would not know the first thing about taking down or putting up wallpapers...looks like a lot of aggravation...I would have talked myself into liking it...LOL!
Have a wonderful day despite it ;D
Awww BJ...I hope your stripping days are behind you soon...I mean your border stripping not the Gypsy Rose Lee kind...but you do realize about the time you get all of that down...it'll be the "in" thing to do again...LOL
Hugs, ;-) Bo
Oh My New Dear Friend,
I feel for you! My sister is stripping off border in her kitchen and going thru the same thing. She has carpel tunnel too! Try liquid fabric softener I've heard that helps! Good luck!
Been there....done that...not fun! Good luck. Can't wait to see the after pictures.
Good morning Bj :)
I will never put a border on anything, in or not. I've had to take it off, so I know your pain. I can't wait to see how everything looks when you're finished :)
love,
ruzzer
After dealing with wallpaper stripping I have said I would NEVER wallpaper anything again. We still need to tear off all the wallpaper out of our spare bathroom......not looking forward to that task! Good luck with yours and yes, chocolate and wine are definitely helpful!!!!!...lol
Hey BJ! I had lots of that 80's inspired border too, it looked great then but not so good now! Thankfully, all but one border is now banished from my house and that one will soon bite the dust too!
I know you can buy all those fancy and expensive tools to remove border but the best way I found that worked for me was to fill a squirt bottle with hot water and just keep spraying that stuff, it comes off pretty easily using that method. Of course, you still take some drywall with you and have to fix that!
Good luck!
Judy
Just wanted to let ya know...I have first dibs on Brad...always have....tee hee.
Good luck with the wallpaper border....
Hugs,
Robin
Oh, BJness! Honey, I'm sending you chocolate and everything you asked for - virtually. Now close your little eyes and receive it! Oh, please post those pictures of your little flapping Mama! That would be so great! There you go again, showing us another cutie pie!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
The liquid fabric softener tip really does work! I've used it twice with great results. Makes wallpaper almost slip right off the wall by itself! Almost. ;)
First, pull off as much loose paper as you can. Usually the front layer will separate relatively easily from the backing. I didn't bother to use a "paper tiger" to score my paper but if yours is very stubborn, it might make the process of getting the paper off even easier.
Dilute the fabric softener with just a little water to make it go farther (but not too diluted). It can be applied with a spray bottle (which can be a little messy) or just sponged on. Saturate the paper, let it sit for a few minutes and scrape with a paint scraper. Voila! Border be gone!
I have four rooms that need the paper taken down (I guess I am over the wall paper thing) and I am praying it is going to come off easy. Brad Pitt...oh yes!
Roberta Anne
I hate taking down wallpaper but I would be happy to come help if I lived in your town! Try squirting it with water and letting it set a bit....
Hugs,
Penny
I also have wallpaper in the upper portion of the bathroom that I am thinking about removing - but keep putting it off. A friend of mine uses vinegar, but I've heard that fabric softener works also. Good luck. Of course we'll expect pictures when you get it all prettied back up.
I know what you mean about wallpaper borders BJ. I started taking one down on the basement wall and half the wall came down with it! It is not a fun job at all. Here's to a fast project. Just think about how great it will look when it is finally down. Good luck with your project! Amy :)
Now are you using a spray bottle of water and letting it soak in? They also recommend putting (I think) white vinegar in it. I have always used just a spray bottle with water. I don't usually have a problem except a few years ago my dinning room wallpaper came off in tiny, tiny little pieces. Took days to remove.
Good Luck...if I lived near by I would have help ya :o)
Hi BJ
Taking a little break while we wait for the painter to return from his break. He is in some pain I think...not sure, but that is my intuition. He ain't no spring chicken, either. So we told him not to worry and take as long as he needed. Anyway, he has worked some magic here in our kitchen. We appreciate it!
We seem to always be able to get the top layer off the border but the second layer is pesky, so we soak it with water, using a spray bottle and it peels right off. Good luck!
Been there ...done that.... NO MORE wallpaper in our house..and I am soooo happy! Hang in there..it is worth all the work!
Have a great day!
Susan
Oh sweetie! If I was back home, I'd run over there and help take down that wallpaper!
By the way love, did you ever get the Lady Blogger Award I created? If not, please come by and get it and offer it to everyone you love. The award is on the January 27th post. And anyone reading this comment..please feel free to take it for yourself! And the Valentine card too!!
Wishing I could send you Brian Dennehy to make it better,
Deanna :D
Oh dear BJ...yuck.
I KNOW what you mean I have been there....had that happen to me. Its an awfully big jog when you have to soak off the paper.
Don't look at it like that. Just think you are going to do ONE room and it'll look gorgeous and you will do the OTHER room only if you feel like it...and that you might change your mind. Don't hold yourself to it...right now. *g*...
You know how it is with pain...we forget...*lol*...then you'll be up to doing it.
I hope you get lots of goodies to keep you going...
We can't wait to see the result pics.
have a .... good time...
Judi
Mix some fabric softener with water and spray it on the border. Wait for awhile and then scrape.
- Suzanne
You are one funny lady!!! Good luck.....0xx0x00x0
BJ,
You sure have your work cut out for you!! Have you ever tried steam??
Don't feel bad, I once started to strip a room in my house and found two more layers under it! What a nightmare!!
Wishing you much love & patience!
xoxo
Jane
Oh lordy girl....making me have flashbacks! lol lol I have never had any problem taking off any wallpaper because I have always used 'size=it or bite' on my walls before i wallpaper ao they just peel off the top layers in big strips and then wet the paper layer with warm wet cloth and it has always come off so quick & easy....but this last time in the kitchen...oh the horrors!!!!!! I scored it with at little thingy you get and I soaked it with hot water...still came off in tiny little pieces!!!! Girl if I was close to you ..I get that off for you....just take one section at a time and don't look at the big picture! lol If all else fails..buy you a chaw of tobacco and go out in the yard and SPIT!!!!!! Can't wait to see what you do with the rooms though...have a great week girl!
Oh, I feel your pain! Wallpaper is so easy to put up, but taking it down is a whole other story! Good luck! laurie
That wallpaper is giving me an 80's flashback.
I had some border that would only come down in tiny little pieces. It took me several weeks to take it down.
Be still my beating heart! A young Brad Pitt...before Angelina sunk her claws into him. Do you think I have a chance to steal him away? And would I want to if 6 step-kids came with the deal?
Maybe I'll rethink that.
I have heard that if you spray Febreze on the wallpaper, it comes up much more easily. I've never tried it but my best friend's mom-in-law used it and it worked great!
Kady
Oh gosh, hope wetting it does the trick for ya.
Oh,as someone who just completed the removal of a houseful of wallpaper and borders I feel your pain. Good luck to you ~ Robyn
Hi BJ,
Taking wall paper off looks like a real pain. There should be an easy way to do that, but I don't know it.
Who is the hunk in the red jacket, tee hee. Very easy on the eyes.
phew my lordy!!! too funny, my draw dropped, though did you know wallpaper is apparently all the rage again roflmao!
I feel your pain, we've stripped off so many walls in the past, our first house had this kinda plaster filled wallpaper, it took hours to get off one small patch...kinda something very therapeutic about it though don't you think??? no? oh ok then I'm just crazy
love love Brad, sigh imagine him papered to your walls
perhaps we could all come over for a paper pulling partay

Wow - you have a big project ahead of you. But it will be worth it when it is all done.
Hi BJ! I've tagged you for the 6th Picture Challenge. Stop by my blog for the rules!
Diane
Poor baby! I'll call my people and ask them what to do. Kidding..I don't have any people. I had my wall paper done by someone though and I know he had stuff he sprayed on. Said he bought it at..Home Depot I think. Not much help here..anyway..
About Brad. You know...they all look like babies to me anymore. What's WRONG with me?! It's ok...I already know!
Hugs...again.
Mona
BWAAAAAA?? LOL..Oh lordy...I think I can hear you!! LOL
LOL! I "resort" to muffin mix when we've got a yen for cake but no time. I always make chocolate chip muffins. The chocolate is all melty when you eat them hot out of the oven.
I don't envy you taking down that wallpaper border! Not one bit of fun in that!
Denzel is supposed to be really nice. Will Smith too - both are really good actors and quite handsome!
Manuela
Oh, that wall paper! I feel for you! Good luck! It will be worth it! Another great hunk!
I wish we could all come over and help you with that border...it sounds like it's fighting back!
