A "wanna be pretty" Mailbox

Hey Hey Everybody.... I have a feeling this is gonna be a great day....for all of us.
"Count your blessings, one by one."
I went thrifting the other day and found an adorable BRASS mailbox.

Now, I HAVE a rural mailbox at the end of my porch that I love to the moon and back...

a cute, little handpainted angel girl on it,
Mr. Sweet put it on a post (plastic and I would MUCH rather have wood) beneath the porch overhang so....IF IT EVER RAINS, we don't get wet, getting our mail.
but THIS one below caught my eye and, then after getting my new GRANDINROAD catalog, I KNEW what I wanted to TRY to do with the thrifted BRASS mailbox....
I want to use MY mailbox
INSIDE....
It would be so cute, holding a pretty magazine....
I WANT to make it COPPER...
OK....not REAL copper but a COPPER COLOR.
Would you kindly
step back and take a look at THIS COPPER beauty in the catalog.
OMYGOSH...and, it's REAL copper, I'm sure.
I fell so in love, I might NEVER be the same sweet, kind lady that I once was.
I felt a hissy fit coming on....
I WANTED THIS MAILBOX.
$199.00
HOLY COW
....i want the MOON, too, but i ain't a'gonna get it !

OOO, I know......
I KNOW mine is no where even remotely CLOSE to the
GRANDINROAD
COPPER ENVELOPE WALL mailbox...

The styling of mine is totally different from the copper one....
the COPPER one is like an olden
 MAIL POUCH.
I know ALL this and yet, I still want to
TRY for a similar look...
CAN I DO IT ?

(I love the fact that our local newspaper uses  PINK paper
in honor of OCTOBER'S
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH)
As some might know, I am posting PINK
for the month and THIS PINK PAPER
worked out great for today's post....thank you very much!

I have my appointment for my mammogram
(OUCH)......I am counting on YOU having YOUR appointment, too.
I'm telling you, this just takes my breath away. I love it....I am going to dream about it....I think I hear it calling my name....I keep working it into conversation.....when I wanted to order my Cherry Vanilla Coke at Sonic, I said COPPER MAILBOX by mistake...I covet this mailbox........
"Covet is NOT a good thing, bj"....
see, it even has me talking to myself.
OOO, YES......I am totally stressing about this beauty.
If I can't have this mailbox, I want CHOCOLATE....and lots of it.
If anyone out there reading this pathetic post
knows HOW to get a copper-looking finish on brass,
would you kindly send the info to me, along with 6 HERSHEY BARS...
3 Plain
3 with Almonds, please.

There must be metallic copper spray paint ! I would be headed out looking for some. I think your inspiration box is gorgeous, but it wouldn't make me as happy as having that $200 in my pocket!

I bet someone will know how to make your mailbox copper. Good luck. Had my mammogram a couple of weeks ago - all is good! This was my 41st mammogram - all with good results. I'm very faithful to this procedure!! Hope yours goes well. Sally

I hope you get that gorgeous mailbox. I did google it to see if anyone has it cheaper, but apparently not...does doing the pout work at all around your home?
Just thought it might be worth a try!

That mailbox will be pretty in copper. They make copper spray paint.

I would spray paint it and then perhaps antique it a bit! It will look even BETTER than the one in the catalog! Besides! You want to display a magazine and YOURS would better display that than THEIRS!!!

Can't wait to see what you do!

There is copper spray paint and it is more like $1.99 instead of $199. I will be waiting to see what you come up with.

Now where did I see a mailbox turned into a rolling pin holder... So cute. Nope, can't help you with this one. Somebody will be able to help out I'm sure. If anyone falls for that candy bar trick, I'm going to try it next.

BJ, you are so cute!! Your post made me smile. I know that feeling when you REALLY want something. Maybe you could try the copper spray paint, and wipe on a glaze to antique it, and tone it down. I wanna see it when you're done!

Yeppers, copper spray paint. We can get it here at our Benjamin Moore store, so other paint dealers must have it, too.

Now, hurry up and get to it because I can't wait to see your copper box.♥

I love your sense of humor, great way to start the day! I'm sure by now you've been sent a million ways to get the copper look you are after, I suggest the spray paint, would be easy peasy! Seriously, if I knew your address you'd have a dozen candy bars on the way........... Cute idea for the mailbox.

of course like your web-site but you need to take a look at
the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and
I in finding it very troublesome to tell the truth
nevertheless I’ll surely come again again

well, aren't you the lucky one... that mailbox is gonna be amazing.
Yes, I have a mammogram every year. So happy that we have caring technicians who care for us and keep us well.

To me, the trouble with REAL copper, is that it does NOT stay that beeeeeeeeeeutiful color, for very long. It becomes (to me) an icky color.

Knowing nothing about this, I'd think a copper color paint would be better than real copper, any time!

Oh and watch out for stealers-of-copper. It's worth money and weird people steal it. Real copper, I mean.

You can buy a copper spray. Also type in "faux copper" in google and a lot of tutorials will come up. Can't wait to see it after you copperize it!

BJ I sure hope your wonderful new mailbox is full of chocolate and ideas for the old mailbox..you'll probable need both, cause I got a feeling your about to be busy opening mail and eating chocolate(not a bad thing either).
Can't wait to see what you do.

Now if you'll excuse me,I think I smell candles in the mail, teehehe.

Hmmm...I have no idea how to get it a copper color, but since others are saying copper spray paint then I think that is your best bet. Anyway, since I wasn't any help in that department, I could at least send you your Hershey bars :)

Hugs,
Stephanie

Good luck and have fun.

BJ! YOu are so so funny. I am going to go with your cure for a hissy fit and coveting... eating chocolate! I think that would help! And chocolate and wine would be even better!
Have you thought about copper spray paint, and then use antiquing medium to give it that beautiful aged look.
I think your mailbox will be gorgeous when it is done!!!
Thanks for the chocolate advice and the giggle!
