AUTUMN....

HI, YA'LL
I sure hope your days are as beautiful as the autumn days here on the Plains of West Texas.  It seems each day is prettier than the one before. Such a pleasure to be outside.

Well, I woke up this morning, wanting a homemade biscuit...
there's just not much I enjoy as much for breakfast than BISCUITS...:))
so...out came the ingredients and away I went.
My cousin made that small rolling pin for me so many years ago,
I can't even remember.
It's just the perfect size.....
.....and the cutters in the background were my mama's.
Three different sizes and I use them to cut out COOKIES, too.

I added SOUR CREAM to my biscuit recipe this morning
and those
biscuits were so light, they almost
floated off.

Boy, I sure do love adding sour cream to just about any baked goods.......awesome....
A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
in cake batter. WHEW....so good.
I can't find it in my decorating heart to use antlers INSIDE the house,
but they look pretty cool OUTSIDE. :))

See that LITTLE BITTY biscuit?

My mama ALWAYS made a tiny biscuit for my brother and I...

Is it silly that I get comfort from a little biscuit every time?
Can a tiny biscuit be called
a comfort food...? I think it can.

Actually, there's so many of my memories connected to foods.....

"By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer."

Helen Hunt Jackson
A weathered piece of wood, fall leaves, hot biscuits in a CAST IRON skillet
makes me think of CHUCK WAGONS.

Throw in a bunch of BRANDS and I can almost smell the
cattle  and hear the cowboys whistling and hollering to the herd.

Mr. Sweet makes custom
branding irons and "brands" a section of our fence with ea one he makes.
Truly a COOL fence.

APRICOT jelly is the same color of AUTUMN LEAVES..
"Falling leaves hide the path so quietly"
I love fall! Fall is exciting. It's apples and cider. It's an airborne spider. It's pumpkins in bins. It's burrs on dog's chins. It's wind blowing leaves. It's chilly red knees. It's nuts on the ground. It's a crisp dry sound. It's green leaves turning And the smell of them burning. It's clouds in the sky. It's fall. That's why... I love fall.

FAUX Autumn leaves...

Our leaves out here in West Texas are still GREEN....

the lawns are still GREEN...

and it's still pretty DRY out here on the plains.

Hi BJ, sure wish I lived close to you I would pop in for a biscuit. I haven't made any in a long time. My poor neglected hubby. You have Wow Me Wednesday that you are linking to and I clicked on it since I am wow us Wednesdays and it goes to a domain site for savvysouthernstyle.com. That is the site that wants $15,000 for that domain name. That is why I went with savvysouthernstyle.net. Not sure how you linked to that site. lol

Love this post! This time of year is my favorite although it has not gotten quite as cool here as I had hoped it would by now.

Those biscuits look scrumptious! And you took me back to a sweet memory of my mom as well because she used to bake the small ones for me and my sister like your mom did for you and your brother.

Thank you for sharing this taste of Autumn with all of us in blogland. Blessings!

Don't know why but the thought "biscuits and gravy" popped into my head after work tonight! I agree, sour cream is amazing in baked goods and think I need to make some biscuits in the near future:@)

Precious story. Lovely pics and oh those biscuits look delectable! There's nothing wrong with finding comfort in memories, I do the same thing too. I have a day off Thursday, I think I'll make me some biscuits! :)

Love the branded fence. I still have a fence picket from when I was growing up. It was a second hand fence that my dad took down from someone's yard and put it up in our's. Anyway, I had carved
K+B in it. My initial and that of my boyfriend.
Also....the tiny bisquit? I call all things tiny Barbie so and so's. That makes it a Barbie Bisquit!

I always make sure we have a tiny, misshapen biscuit too. I love that rolling pin! Welcome fall!

I agree with you that biscuits are even more yummy with sour cream. I have never baked mine in an iron skillet but I have one so I will if my biscuits look as good as yours. I like the way you tied everything together in this post. It is always a treat to see your blog. On another subject, I had to give up Cozy Home Scenes due to an alleged trademark infringement. I would love it if you would join me at my new blog A COZY PLACE CALLED HOME. Forgive me for mentioning it on your blog but I need to get the word out. I am starting from scratch and need my friends to come along with me. Desperate times call for desperate measures so I am doing what I can to gain my followers and readers back.
Hope you have a wonderful week, BJ!!-------- Shannon

I can't decide which part of your post I liked the best, tiny biscuits, sunflowers, pumpkins - I absolutely love them all, but I shamelessly covet your little rolling pin!!

Hmmmmm...those biscuits look fantastic! Are you keeping the recipe a secret? My biscuits came up a notch when you gave a tip once upon a time. About this sour cream...does it substitute for milk in the same amount? Don't answer if you don't want to.

Love seeing Linda over there. Almost thought that she was baking biscuits tonight in addition to everything else.

Oh BJ...this was so cute. I got a little teary with the tiny biscuits. My mama always made me a tiny apple pie...and I still have the pan.
Your biscuits look wonderful...and I didn't know your hubby made branding thingys! oh, irons right? That is way cool. See now I want to find me a piece of old wood with Ceekay Branded on it! That is such a neat fence...girl, you have such a wonderful life. The Lord has truly blessed you. I was wondering and maybe you have said, but is your brother still living and do you get to spend time with him?

bj, one of your biscuits would surly be tasty with the cup of coffee I just poured myself! I also remember those cast iron skillets with biscuits on a cold day. Comfort food? YES! I add sour cream to my recipe too. I was making cornbread and was low on milk so by accident I found it makes great cornbread too. Beautiful photographs.

It's early a.m. here in Arizona and those biscuits look so good. I was so amused by the two little biscuits. What a great tradition you have carried on. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.

A not-so-wide rolling pin!!!!! Super smart! Never realized it fully, but rolling pins are made in a width, for a man! -pout-

Hmmmmm, need to ask the "Resident Woodworker" about this!!!! -grin-

I bet they are wonderful! My mouth is watering.

Auntie sezzzzzz... said...

DONE!

He ("Resident Woodworker") says he made a rolling pin for our daughter, a long time ago.

So....

He said just tell him the width I want, and he will make one for me. One, to my specifications. :-)))))

Oh Oh! But then, he'll be wanting Apple Pies more often, than 1 or 2 a year. -gigggles-

Oh yum, I would love a hot biscuit right now. I've never added sour cream to mine. I'll have to try that. I don't have a special rolling pin -- in fact, I just pat my dough out -- but I have a special biscuit cutter made of wood. The first one I had was made from a tree that was taken down at The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville. I now have another made by a Tennessee artisan.

BJ: I also use sour cream in my cake mix. Everyone always compliments me on this cake. I love Mr. Sweets brand of graffiti on your fence. By the way, I can smell those biscuits. mmmmmmmm so good.
