My Mother's Day Breakfast

CHOCOLATE CHIP.  PECAN.  PANCAKES.
No special recipe here...just use your trusted pancake recipe and
add extra vanilla, chocolate chips and pecans.
My black and white dishes from WALMART and
the little juice glasses and the little black checked plates from GOODWILL.
These dishes are just perfect for breakfast.

Did you know they make SUGAR FREE
CHOCOLATE CHIPS...??

Meee, either.

Sugar free CHOCOLATE CHIPS
WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR
SKIM MILK
SUGAR FREE  IHOP SYRUP
BRUMMEL AND BROWN YOGURT instead of butter

These are PRETTY good and it's not the SUGAR FREE stuff that makes them a little less good than the regular ones.....
It's the WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR.

I am having a hard time with it.

I bought the white whole wheat flour but it is still strong tasting and makes the pancakes heavy.

I'm not sure how people stay on whole wheat instead of white flour for very long.

Did you have the pleasure of seeing this adorable 1999 movie ?
They ate CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES.......
If you love a good romantic movie, this is sure a great one that I am
SURE you will enjoy.

I have it recorded on my DVR player and I watch it about once a month or so.
I am SOOO a JAMES GARNER fan.
Rent this movie sometime......
Oh....
and you might want to make up a stack of your favorite pancakes,
adding a handful of CHOCOLATE CHIPS.....
sugar free or NOT.
 XOXO  bj

I prefer whole wheat pancakes. Hunter? Not so much. But he makes the most wonderful pecan waffles.

yep. I'm with you-I don't like whole wheat for pancakes. My father used to like buckwheat pancakes and they would just make me gag. UGH. The only flour I use at all (and that is very sparingly) is rye flour. I have not had white flour since July of last year. xo Diana

My girls love chocolate chip pancakes and we whip them up on weekends! Last time, we added pretzel M&M's!!

My hubs refuses to eat whole wheat pasta - says it tastes like dirt! Wonder if he'd eat the pancakes?!!! But hey, anything tastes better with chocolate chips!

Love your glasses too - great find! Happy you stopped by so I could find and follow you!

Try whole wheat pastry flour. It is a little lighter. I have ground up quick cooking oatmeal into a flour and that works too. xo

Looks like a special breakfast BJ! I think the whole wheat flour grows on you after a while:@)

Your pancakes just look to good, then add chocolate chips. Can't beat it! Love those dishes, I've never seen them at Wal Mart. What a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day!

Hi BJ - I have a great pancake recipe from Martha at Lines from Linderhof and I think I will fancy them up sometimes with your recipe. I just love dropping by your blog. Your food always looks so good and the ingredients are usually in my pantry. James Garner is 'the retired guy's' favorite actor so we will get this movie for sure. I don't have to tell you I love your dishes. Have a great day. Hugs, Deb

BJ, you should write a book about the yumminess you are creating to help with the dieting! I mean it, get busy and write some recipes, adding in your gorgeous pictures... published:) Have a blessed day my talented friend, HUGS!

Yes, I remember the movie and their mention of chocolate chip pancakes! Made me want them the next morning. It's nice to know someone besides me remembers all the food in all the movies she's ever seen! LOL!

I do have that movie. Julie Andrews and James Garner make a great on-screen couple.

Now I am not dieting and I should be, but when we switched from white to wheat, and it's been years ago now, I can't get back to the white. I have white spaghetti at someone's home and I want the wheat variety. One develops a taste for it is the best I can offer.

What about trying a white flour/wheat flour combination for a while until gradually you are adding more wheat than white? Anything that works!

And NO! I had no idea that there were such things as chocolate free chips. What's the sweetening agent? (I'm allergic to sorbitol.)

Sugar free choco chips? Who would have guessed!!

I tried using whole wheat flour to make homemade pasta and it was not good-lol. But I do like whole wheat pasta that I buy. And I love whole wheat bread.

I've noticed a gluten-free rice flour pancake mix on the shelves at the grocery store... is rice flour allowed?

Your pancakes sound good. I've never put choc chips in mine before. I had blueberry pancakes on Mother's Day myself. We didn't make it healthy though. It was full of all the bad stuff, but tasted so good. I seldom eat pancakes so it was a treat! I have seen that movie before and agree it is VERY good!

When I was growing up, my dad would make "fancy" pancakes whenever he cooked them. We NEVER knew what he was going to toss into the batter. But, as kids, it was always fun to find out. ;)

Thanks for sharing the movie. I'm ALWAYS up for a good romantic comedy.

And thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday each week, BJ.
