Here's MY take on it.....

YIPEE.....
It is time for that fun ONCE A MONTH party....
You know the one...
over at Debbiedoo's
I REALLY hope you will join us as it is sooo much fun...
and really a challenge..... THE MAGAZINE COPY CAT CHALLENGE
I am also joining in with some other wonderful linky parties, shown an the end of my post.
It is, indeed, a WEEK  for PARTIES....

I spend quite some time, thumbing through magazines for just the right photo to challenge.
I never spend MONEY....the greatest challenge to me is to come close to your inspiration photo WITHOUT spending any money....just using what I have and
shopping my house for just the right pieces.
I have had this photo in my INSPIRATION FILES for over 3 years....
It is out of COUNTRY LIVING MAGAZINE.
I only have a FEW things to make MY photo any where CLOSE to this beauty
but.......*GULP
HERE GOES......
and ya'll be kind to me...ya hear !!

It is very hard to reproduce magazine copies of photos....
FIRST....we never have the exact same things as THEY do.....

SECOND....we also don't have the awesome cameras THEY have....and my little point and shoot doesn't have the wide angle lens.

SO, keep in mind if YOU decide to do a COPY CAT CHALLENGE.
which I HOPE YOU WILL,
the photo you choose is only a GUIDELINE and gives you the inspiration to come as close to THEIRS as possible.

IT'S SO MUCH FUN............

Since DEBBIEDOO suggested we add a little SPRING to our challenge,
I added the little bunch of SUPERMARKET flowers to my table...
and, don't they look so pretty !

I added lots of little personal things to my table
and I love this photo of my first grandson, DREW, who, by the way will be 22 this coming summer and it does NOT seem possible as he should still be around 3.
and I KNOW that was a doozie of a
RUN ON SENTENCE.

Don't have the great wall shelves shown in the CL photo but I have this tiny little shelf I picked up several yrs ago at ♫♪♪ GOODWILL ♫♪♫
so it gives me the "cubby" look on a much
smaller scale.

I added a RABBIT where THEY had a cute spotted dog...
HEY....WAIT.....

I just remembered that I have something spotted, too...
Let me go get it.......be right back...

Nawh.........I still like my little
RABBIT with his black and white bow the best...

The ROOSTER prints on the wall were given to me by one of my daughter's
closest friends.
"Thanks so much, Paige."

I know I have too many photos here....

and guess you are getting tired of seeing the same thing. It's just so fun, working with photos in PHOTOSCAPE
that I get carried totally away.
I always want to put a GLOW on things.... ♥ ♥ ♥
Aren't the magnificent ROOSTERS looking all shiny and bright with their
red combs and their  blue tail feathers....!

DEBBIEDOO  told us about these adorable
French Script
lamp shades a few months back.

Poor DebbieDoo...I copy her every move.

She said she got hers at WALMART
and I broke the sound barrier,
getting to the nearest Walmart and....
THERE THEY WERE, in all their cuteness.
I got 2 for my daughter, STACY, and a couple for myself.

We were happy !!

I bought this cute wall lamp
from an Estate sale a few
years back and thought I would
paint it .....then decided I like the
brass.
However, that being said, I sure
am loving the GRAYS I am seeing
all over the place.  hmmmmm ??
If anyone is looking for a BLACK AND WHITE CHECKED parson chair slipcover,
I bought mine at THE COUNTRY DOOR
and while I don't think they are on sale right now, they are VERY inexpensive.
Hey......I love 'em so much, I bought TWO  and I don't even have another chair yet.

shhhhh,......if Mr. Sweet finds out about THAT, his eyes will do that ROLLING THING....
Joining in the fun, too, with:                                               BLESSINGS AND LOVE, bj
THANKS SO MUCH to all the hosts for these link parties.

Your little spot is just lovely! I think using the magazines as inspirations is way better than blindly copying!

I think this looks so inviting -I love how you pulled it all together:-)

bj your copy cat is perfect! I love the bunny and your personal items just as much as the Country Living and really more because its YOU! I also like to do mine without spending any money and sometimes that is hard! Still it's fun and a good way to challenge ourselves. hugs, Linda

I like yours better. I didn't like their shelf or that dog. I like you smaller shelf and the bunny looks so cute. You really do well coping. I can take a scrapbook page and copy it and it looks nothing like it, hah.

Ahhh Bj, I love ya! you did a fantastic job on your copy cat. I love most that you are creative in your thought. You use what you have already and don't spend money. That is truly creative in my eyes!!!!~ Glad you found a lampshade too. I was talking about you at dinner tonight. All good trust me:) I think my husband knows most of you at this point. Oh on the paint chips..they are at home depot and they are behr chips. Thanks for joining in on the fun.

GREAT take on the inspiration photo, Bj. I like that they are similar but different enough to claim as your own. Love the little shelving unit and it is perfect right there.

Seriously? You bought a 2nd slipcover for a chair you don't have? Hmmmm...well...I might have the same thing hiding in my basement...shhhhh..if you don't tell I won't - xo Diana

I think you did a great job. Right off I noticed your lamp and like it better, and I like you pictures on the wall better too. Excellent! You must have worked on that forever!

Walmart? There is nothing even remotely as cute in a Canadian Walmart. It's all very boring and very ugly. When I go to WA I am always stunned at the difference between a US Walmart and a Canadian one.
You aced that Copy Cat challenge!

BJ, I'm pretty sure that you get First Place for this one! I can't believe that you recreated that elaborate vignette and didn't buy a thing. Brilliant!

You did an excellent job...as a matter of fact, I prefer your's over the magazine copy...I enjoyed how you grabbed every detail and made your very own arrangement..

Well didn't you go and do it again! Pretty soon they'll be hiring you to do vignettes. Yours is, once again, more lovely than theirs, and I'm not just saying that because I love you more than CL, which I do, though I would never say that just to say that. Now that is a run-on sentence to beat the band or to take the cake—speaking of which, I don't see no cake on that desk of yours. Right. It's not on theirs either. Okay. You're excused.

Sonny G said...

wow, I love yours way more than the original...

Country Living would be so proud of your arrangement.. its so pretty and that lamp looks perfect.

Shannon Fox said...

Umm... not to be a suck-up but I like yours better. I think the scale is better and over all it's just more appealing. You win! The wine cork filled lamp is so cute too. And of course, the photo of your grandson. Why can't they stay 3? My son is 15 now and so big. Wish I could steal back an age 3 moment now and again =) Happy Spring!

BJ, my friend!!! You did an exceptional job on this copy cat challenge. I approach the challenge the same way.....I try to find photos that have elements I already own or can steal and mean borrow from a neighbors yard :/

Well let me just say that I'm glad you don't have those odd little shelf sitter critters, never understood how they made it to the pages of Country Living to start with! (Don't like this new editor AT ALL!) Love your pic and glad the only thing you had to pick up was the pretty flowers-enjoy:@)

BJ,
I adore your "copy cat" better!!! Your prints on the wall make a gorgeous background for your shelf atop the desk! I have such a love for bunnies...I think you could show Country Living a thing or two. Yours is not only from the country...but from the heart! That's real living!
Fondly,
Pat
P.S. YOU could NEVER have TOO MANY photos, dear friend!!!

I don't think you gave yourself enough credit, BJ! I think you did an incredible job with your copycat! I get the exact same feel from the inspiration picture and your picture. You nailed it, lady! : ) Love the raised cubby piece you brought in, the lamp and the chair ~ it all looks great. I think it's great if you can get a similar look from an inspiration photo from stuff you already have.

Your is beautiful What are you talking about? I think it is even better than country livings, see they have experience and only decorate for the magazine, you decorate for your home and make it personal. I will take your version any time. And the fact that it cost nothing, even better.
TFS. Enjoy your new space.
