Cherry Pie is one of my favorites...

...I can bake a cherry pie ♫♪♪....quick as a cat can wink his eye....♥♪♫♫
I think little PIE BIRDS are so cute...I am thinking I might like to have a SMALL collection of them to display in my kitchen.. I have a perfect little shelf to display about 8 or 9.
Yeah, right...like I need ONE MORE COLLECTION.
...but they are so cute...
This is a few that are on EBAY.....♥ ♫♪
all looking just like a baby bird in the nest, waiting for his mama to bring him DINNER...
and THIS one is especially cute.
Most are between $6 and $20.
Did you know that when you crimp your pie curst, whether it's a single or a double,
if you will really "put a point" on it, when it comes out of the oven, it will still have a distinctive shape.
Otherwise, it tends to loose the points and not look quite as pretty...
BUT...believe me...THAT sure won't affect the taste of your delicious PIE.
I use the recipe on the can label of TART CHERRIES...
never canned CHERRY PIE FILLING.
♥♥
1/2 to 3/4 cup Sugar
1 Tablespoon Corn Startch
2 cans of TART cherries
1/4 teaspoon Almond Extract
1 Tablespoon butter
2 pie crusts
♥  ♥ ♥
Preheat oven to 400...
Drain cherries, reserving juice from only ONE can...
Add juice to a saucepan, with the sugar and corn starch...
Stirring, cook over medium heat until thickened...
Add cherries and almond extract and pour into a crust...
Cover with the other crust, pinching top and bottom crust together..    ♥
Brush with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over top...
Insert PIE BIRD or cut vent slits in the top crust...
Bake 30 to 40 minutes, or until nice and golden and the juice is bubbling
out of the pie....YUMMMM   ♥♥

I took this Cherry Pie to our home fellowship gathering and didn't get a pretty photo of just one slice on a plate......we ate it ALL UP.
But THIS is what my last pie looked like...
and, I wish I had a piece of it RIGHT NOW...

BJ, Cherry pie is my very favorite. And not crumb topped, but the very way you made it!
I really did not think that canned cherries would work, and I love sour cherry pie. Good to know.
I can see I will be looking for a pie bird... they are adorable! What a cutie and useful thing.
Please post this yummy pie next week for ON THE MENU MONDAY!It will be the sweetest thing there!

Wow BJ I don't really like cherry pie (I adore fresh cherries as is, but hate anything made with them - go figure!) But this looks outrageous. I want a pie bird now. xo

I remember Lubbock had lots of bad dust storms in the 50"but nothing like that. Wonder where all the red came from? Bet it looked like the end of the world. We had a couple of those when I was in jr.high here in Pampa. As dark as night, but not red. the cherry pie looks delish and I love the little birds.

BJ -- Cherry Pie is what I dream about at night, lol. It is my favorite and I'd pick pie EVERYDAY over cake. I always put a lattice tip on mine and eat it with homemade vanilla ice cream --- YUM!! LOVE pie burds -- so cute!

Blessings!

Did you get warning of the sand storm?
Apple pie. Apples are in season right now.
Try thrift shops for the pie birds. I see them there sometimes.
Peace.

Looks delicious! After a storm like you experienced, you need some fabulous food!

Thank goodness cherry pie is not one of my favorites to eat. Looking at them is terrific and thanks for the tip about pie crust tips. I've often wondered how gals got such nice results. I usually go with the fork method as it's no fail. Now I might have to try the point thing.

Are you still dusting?

I've always loved pie birds! A woman won a big pie contest one year and her pie had a Thanksgiving turkey pie bird in it! I thought that looked so neat, that's the one I hope to find:@)

I've never even heard of Pie Birds! Very, very cute and they would be so cute as a collection. . .I saw Paula Deen on TV yesterday and she was saying that the art of Pie Making is becoming a thing of the past. Wouldn't that be awful? I LOVE pie!! And yours are BEAUTIFUL!

I love cherry pie! So good! The pie birds are adorable and small so a collection won't hurt a thing!

Pie birds have been collected in the UK for years. I have had a lot. The best was an elephant pie bird by Nutbrown, England...but that was big bucks! There are even guides! I am not a good crust maker...yours is so luscious looking!
I'm a first time visitor...glad to meet you!

You keep the pie birds, but pass the pies to me.

BJ, your cherry pie looks fabulous. Wish I had a slice right now. Love the idea of tart cherries.
As for the pie birds, I vote yes. You should have a sweet little collection of these. I collected black ones whenever I could find them, and then used them as part of my table decorations when my goddaughter married. Her maiden name is Blackbird. ;-) She loves having them, though I doubt she uses them for pies. ~ Sarah

BJ,
Yummy! I use to make cherry pies for a dear (now deceased) neighbor. It was his favorite pie! Every time I brought one in the door, he would reply, "Oh Goody, goody...cherry pie!" His grands knew how much he loved pie so, when eating leftovers ...out of respect to Granddad...no one would eat the leftover cherry pie. They always left it for him! Now that's raising your grands up the proper "Southern" way!!!
Fondly,
Pat

I think pie birds are adorable, BJ! If I didn't already have so many OTHER collections, I would start one with these little cuties, as well.

By the way, that cherry pie looks yummy! And I just happen to have fresh-frozen cherries from this year's harvest. ;)

Thanks for joining Time Travel Thursday again this week. I always love having you join the fun!
