BEFORE and AFTERS and REDS

KIM at SAVVY SOUTHERN STYLE
has a brand new, FUN meme party every Wednesday
BEFORE and AFTER...
*
How fun...
we all just love to see
BEFORE and AFTERS
*
Kim is very sweet and works with you on what you can post.
She doesn't mind that it is a PAST POST...
which is what I have today...

BEFORE
All of my readers that have been with me for awhile
have seen my
$5.00 THRIFTED LUMBER YARD DISPLAY RACK
that really wants, so badly, to be a BACKERS RACK
when it grows up.
*
The lumber yard was going out of business, selling all the display racks, counters and etc.
While Mr. Sweet was checking out other things,
I bought the olden, metal rack
and was dragging it to the pickup when he came running behind me, saying,
"What the heck ?"
I looked back and was surprised that he could even SEE ME,
his eyes were rolled SO FAR back in his head.
I get that A LOT...
the rolled eyes....*sigh
***
ANYway, I put ceramic tile across the top...to hold lots of THINGS...
and used it in this state for quite some time..
*
AFTER....

HE is the first to admit that he loves this old rack now...
*
I gave it a pretty shade of FRENCH BLACK this summer,
added the vintage wire locker room baskets to hold pretty cookbooks..
hung my vintage brass, long-handled ladles to  the front..
hung the wonderful sign that SUSIE HARRIS made for me..
I'm tellin' ya, she does a FABULOUS job on her signs..
Pottery Barn knockoffs are her speciality...
If you are wanting to give a GREAT sign to someone on your CHRISTMAS list,
go over and browse thru her blog and ETSY SHOP

Stacked some pretty  dishes and added a big bucket of  real  IVY to soften things up...
those are vintage shuttered swinging doors, just propped up behind the rack...
and I love it all...

Also back during the summer,
we went to GOODWILL one day and it was
a day the ANGELS were smiling on moi...
I heard a heavenly CHOIR singing the minute I spotted THESE...
Those amazing huge brass candle sticks...3 and 4 dollars...
I nearly wet my pants.
**
And that little wooden, ugly table...less than 3 dollars.

Oh, I had plans for ALL of these beauties...
Oh, yes, I had already spotted these
 WONDERFUL
POTTERY BARN
candlesticks in their catalog.
MEGA bucks..
I gave my brass ones a couple coats of the best BLACK...That's them, on your right...
and, may I just say...
I like them MUCH better than PB's 'cause they didn't cost an arm and a leg and
I have the EXACT  same look...
I LOVE IT, YA'LL...
*
The little wooden table got dressed in COLONIAL RED
and just shines, while it holds a stack of my beloved decorating magazines,
between my two blue, olden easy chairs...
HOWEVER..
in just this last week,
one of my favorite bloggers, DONNA, at
FUNKY JUNK INTERIORS

showed us how to make this TO. DIE. FOR. tabletop...
and MR. SWEET, the sweetie, said he would make it for me... but that
I would have to do the painting on it...*gulp
isn't it just about the cutest thing you've ever seen.
I KNOW, before I even attempt it, that mine will
NEVER....
EVER...
IN A MILLION YEARS...
look like HERS...
*double heavy sigh
but, I gotta try...
or maybe I can get my sweet daughter, STACY LEIGH, to do it for me..
SHE IS GOOD !!
I hope you will go by and see all the
and I am also linking with
If you like looking at RED...she will have bunches of it.
In the meantime...
HAVE A RUBY RED GRAPE and a STRAWBERRY with me.

You are too talented to be able to see those brass candlesticks and that table in their before condition and make them things people would envy!!! Great before and after post. I didn't know Kim was going to do this every Wed. I will have to participate again.

Oh how I love your bakers rack. I think it looks better than most of the ones I see and you have it decorated so beautifully. Love all the wire baskets too. Gorgeous. Your candlesticks do look better than the expensive ones. Cute little red table. I can't wait to see the one you are going to make. I think it is just fabulous. Thanks for the grapes. Hugs, Marty

I remember seeing that rack before and never figured out that it wasn't a baker's rack! Incredible job. It looks wonderful. I also remember seeing those candlesticks and table. You're like me in that you love to find a bargain and make it look like you spent the big bucks at Pottery Barn! I would rather do that even if I did have the money for PB!

Oh, and I moderate my comments now since I was getting SO much spam for a while!

IT looks as if you hit the jackpot forsure. I have never even thought of refurbishing brass candlesticks. I wouldn't have thought the paint would stick but apparently....it does!

I don't have that gene that lets one see what something will look like and also process how to make it get there...so pretty. I so enjoy looking at others before and afters.

What a great bakers rack. I adore the way you used the old wire baskets. I have an old wire basket (the kind we used in gym class). The candlesticks are terrific too.

Sorry I had a mistake on the first one.
I know you always have such an interesting blog; but I have to admit to you that when I leave here, I'm a wee bit jealous.
You sure know how to make anything look good.
I really hope you thank the lord about this talent he gave you; widh you lived closer to advise me on decor.
Hugs,
Rita

You got some great deals, and loved seeing the redos. I have a set of brass candle holders that are about 3 feet tall and am thinking about painting them. May I ask what brand and kind of paint you used and did you treat the brass with anything before painting? Thanks.
