CANTALOUPE....I LOVE IT !

Are ya'll enjoying the fresh, sweet and juicy CANTALOUPE this summer ??
*
We surely are...
I LOVE a GOOD cantaloupe....
but hate a green, dry, unsweet one with a passion...
*
UNLIKE peaches, tomatoes and bananas, cantaloupe doesn't ripen further after picking...
SOOO....
to get a ripe one, you have to CHOOSE a ripe one !!
"And how do you do THAT ?" you say...
SMELL THEM...just follow your nose !
If you find one that has that sweet, musky smell that gives them their common name,
MUSKMELON,
then you've just found a ripe, juicy and sweet melon.
*
Another good way is to push slightly on the end opposite the stem...
it should GIVE just a little bit...
I like them for
BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND/OR DINNER...and all in between !
*

I had a slice this very morning with my toasted biscuits (one had sugar and cinnamon..ummm)
*

but....THIS is how MR. SWEET likes HIS cantaloupe...

OMGosh, MR. SWEET...this DOES look mighty fine !!
**
NOW...he told me to tell you that the ONLY other way
that he might like his cantaloupe better....
*

...is sitting in one of the BEAUTIFUL dining rooms,
cruising to Alaska,
aboard the beautiful SAPPHIRE PRINCESS cruise ship
and having an AWESOME breakfast..!!
****
tee hee.............. me, too, MR. SWEET.....me, TOO !!

BJ, I love a good cantaloupe and Pecos are really good ones! I like Mr. Sweet's idea of adding the ice cream. I need to try that one. :-)

I tell people all the time that if anyone would have told me that once a week I would set a table, most often that no one would use and take pictures of it to show to strangers (we aren't really strangers...are we?) that I would have thought that I really needed to get a life. I wonder if those outside of Blogland feel that way about all of us? They have no idea how busy this keeps us...do they?

As for cantelope, we are close to Indiana and our stores and farmstands bring in those big Indiana melons that are so good.

I just got done cutting up a canaloupe for breakfast tomorrow. So I was smiling as I read your post. I must say, the cantaloupe with ice cream does sound pretty good! Oh how I wish I was on a cruise eating that now :)

A cantaloupe post is JUST fine with me! I planted some cantaloupe in my garden this year but they didn't do too good!

I love cantaloupe but never would think to add ice cream! Mr. Sweet knows all the tricks:)

Enjoy your day dear BJ! HUGS!

BJ,
We do love our muskmelon! You need to drag out one of your pretty salt and pepper shakers for me, tho! We eat salt and lots of pepper on ours :) Please check out my latest post. You GOTTA see what Mr. Tennis ate for breakfast on our trip to Memphis!

Good morning bj, I loved your whole post on cantaloupe. Mmmmmm, it is one of my favorite fruits without a doubt. I agree with Mr. Sweet, I love vanilla ice cream with my cantaloupe more than any other way. I have a wonderful cantaloupe memory bj. When I was about nine my parents went on a Sunday ride to Homestead, Florida to visit some friends we called Aunt and Uncle. Six kids and our parents were given a half of a cantaloupe with ice cream inside. A whole HALF!!! Growing up in a big family where food was shared as well as everything else (like our one doll), this was memorable. Your sweet post just brought back that memory. Happy Smile here.

I am so happy to be visiting again on a regular basis. I have missed you my sister friend.

Have a wonderful cantaloupe day.
Love, Jeanne

New Header pic here! :-)

Yes M'm, we get "Hand" melons, this time of year, around our neck of the woods. Something about the land, on which Hand Farm grows 'em, make them best.

We never buy any other melons, but those at the Farm Stand. :-)

Oh and I forgot! I like my sliced, with salt on it!

*Baddddddddddddd* I know... But... ,-)

I love cantaloup too, but this year the family is on a watermelon kick! I think we have been eating a whole melon every couple days for weeks! I can't remember ever craving it like this. Thank goodness it isnt chocolate I'm eating like that:>)

Mr. Sweet and I enjoy the same things. Everything's better with ice cream!

Happy Blue Monday!

I'm afraid I don't care for canteloupe; and I grew up in the Melon Capital of the World where you ate them right on the edge of the field. I can tell lots of stories about how teenagers steal melons from fields under the moonlight, and what farmers did to discourage it. Glad you enjoy the melons, as it's an important industry in our part of the country. Enjoy your week. Sally

We grew our 1st cantaloupes 3 years ago and I recommend Ambrosia cantaloupes as the utter best: sweet and delicious. We grew ours from seeds (in Virginia). Oh, and be not lured by Ambrosia muskmelons as they are not nearly as wonderful.

Thanks for linking to Cottage Monday!

Hugs!

I love cantaloupe and I think I to will have to try it with ice cream, though it is a treat in itself to me.
I would love to go on another cruise, I loved it!

I really do love cantaloupe. It's one of my favorite summer treats! Just found out that my new sweetie really likes it too. I never thought of it with ice cream, but I might have to try that some time!

Oh, I have always dreamed of taking an Alaskan cruise! Maybe someday.
