TEA FOR TEXAS....

"Give me a T for TEXAS,
give me a T for Tennessee.
Give me a T for Texas,
give me a T for Tennessee .
Give me a T for Thelma, woman made a fool out of me..."

"If you don't want me baby,
mama you sure don't got to stall .
If you don't want me baby,
mama you sure don't got to stall.
I've had more pretty women than a passenger train could haul ..."

Lynyrd Skynyrd sings this olden song...
so did JOHNNY CASH....

TEXAS SWEET TEA and LEMON CHEESECAKE....

mighty hard to beat !

Pretty plates with roses on them just seem to make EVERYthing taste twice as good...
*

I always say TWO pieces are better than ONE !!

..and I wish I had a whole ENTIRE set of this ROSE plate, trimed in gold...
:))

Some of you might remember that I am a HUGE fan of
SEMI HOMEMADE..!!
*
I used a boxed mix for this delicious treat..adding CREAM CHEESE, an extra egg,
PURE VANILLA.....
*
This little darling metal, white TEXAS STAR
was in a lovely giveaway from
many more items with it but I am saving them
for later BRAGGING !!
*
Speaking of BRAGGING, Texas has a lot to brag about, too..
Even WEST TEXAS is pretty in it's own way....
**
The 1963 movie
HUD
with PAUL NEWMAN
was filmed in
CLAUDE, TX...about a two and a half hour drive from us...
We drove out there several times to see the original old house and ranch used in filming.
Really fun to see !
I never did come even CLOSE to seeing any of the stars, tho..
BUMMER !!

ICED SWEET TEA...
a good old fashioned SOUTHERN drink..
*

The above photo is from the net...
a photo of
PALO DURO CANYON..
only a couple hours drive for us..

we used to go several times during the summer..it's so pretty there.
Usually have a picnic and all the kids would wade in the water crossings...
*

But....THIS is what it looks like around our place...
flat...dusty... WINDY..
*

Maybe THAT'S why we drink more ICED tea out here
on the plains...
I know it sure does taste good....ALL YEAR ROUND..!

TIPS FOR MAKING PERFECT ICED TEA
(from the web)

For iced tea, use only orange pekoe. I've always used Lipton, and keep meaning to try other brands (Luzianne, for instance), but I keep reaching for the Lipton red and yellow box.
*
For the absolute best results, use a glass or glazed pitcher that can handle having boiling water poured into it. Plastic and metal containers may be able to take the heat, but they often impart flavors that interfere with the best tea taste.
(I ALWAYS use a glass pitcher...never plastic!)

Tie your teabags together so they'll be easier to remove from the pitcher.

Fresh tea is the best tea. Don't try and hold it over in the refrigerator for days. Pour it out and make fresh.

The amount of sugar called for in my instructions suits my personal taste and, come to think of it, the tastes of my family and guests. However, you may like your tea more or less sweet and, if so, adjust the sugar accordingly. NOTE: I personally use MUCH more sugar in our tea.

Make sure your tea is chilled before you serve it. If you add ice cubes to warm or even room temperature tea, they'll just melt and dilute the tea. And, by all means, use ice cubes rather than chipped or crushed ice to keep the melting to a minimum.

About family-size tea bags: The big tea bags are three and a half times the size of the little ones (7 grams, as opposed to 2 grams). I'll let you do the math. I use the regular tea bags because I find that five of them (which would be 10 grams) are perfect for one and one-half quarts of tea, which is what I usually make every day.

MARFA, TX. was the location of “Giant”, which included James Dean.
Not far from us...

A lot of movies have been made out here on the PLAINS of West Texas..
usually ones about OIL...CATTLE...and RATTLESNAKES !
;>)
*

I hope you enjoyed your ICED TEA.

I sure enjoyed YOUR visit !!

OH goodness! That lemon treat looks wonderful! Can you send me a piece?

I grew up in Michigan and never new there was such a thing as sweet tea for the first 25 years of my life! Then passing through the south, at every restaurant we stopped at, we got asked two questions. Sweet or unsweet and do you want grits with that!

Hugs,
Penny

I could use some of that lemon cheesecake right now. It's midnight and I finally got out of bed because I just couldn't sleep. Ugh, don't you hate that? But it gave me a chance to catch up with you. Hope your Memorial Day was a good one.

Beautiful post, BJ. The lemon cake looks so good!

We love our tea, too. I've learned to like mine with lemon, unsweetened, but J is still a sweet tea kind of guy.

Oh My Goodness!! Lemon & Cheesecake are my absolute favorite flavors!! Is there a recipe? A special way you put it together? And then the tea... not a fan, but possibly we do it wrong here in Michigan. I will try your recipe. Beautiful post!

Love the pictures! And the tips for making tea brought back memories, of times in my great-aunt's kitchen, where she would tie those Lipton tea bags together, and put them into a great big aqua glazed glass bowl. When the hot water hit the tea bags, the smell was wonderful. Once the tea cooled enough, it was poured into pitchers and went into the fridge to chill. Nothing tasted like those first few ice cold sips -- thanks for reminding me :-) And about the lemon cheesecake...how much of the extras do you add...it looks luscious!

Hi BJness! Oh, that lemony treat looks so good. Now you know I love my iced tea - cold weather or hot. I think that's just a Texas thing! We moved to Odessa when I was 13 and I know all about the wind and dust storms! Oh, my goodness! :)
Be a sweetie,

Oh, you have the best posts. This one had a lot of info in it. I didn't know West TX looks like that with canyons and such. Very nice photos of it. And, your lemon bars look heavenly! Yes, sweet tea rules! Grew up in KY and was always a tea drinker!
Have a great day BJ.

I enjoyed your Iced Tea Post so much! I had to laugh though, for I make a gallon a day, and on hot days two. My husband drinks a gallon by himself! lol I know most from the south used cubed ice. I prefer my glass cold, nothing to dilute the taste. lol I use more sugar than I am comfortable in saying. lol Love my Tea Strong and Sweet! lol Love seeing where you live! Lucky you to be so close to such a wonderful area to visit! Adore the Lemon/Cream Cheese bars! I take one and a glass of Tea now. Notice I didn't say iced. lol My whole family growing up had Iced Tea, they would say where are you from? Because I didn't take ice. lol Now my husband has to have his glass filled with to the top with ice! Love your China! Thank you for joining me today for Tea Time Tuesday. I haven't been visiting much a now feeling well these days. Going to Christine's in Natchez to meet up with other bloggers for a Tea Luncheon in her home, can't wait! Wish you could be there!

Oh, I forgot to answer your question! The pink roses only bloom about a week and half to two weeks each year. Now you know why I had so many Garden Tea Settings this year! lol I have other roses but the climbing pink one has them covered up. lol
