ahhhhh....THE JOYS OF THRIFTING

I AM POSTING THIS A BIT EARLY...
I WILL BE AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING
AND SOMETIMES, BLOGGER HAS A GLICH IN PRE-POSTED POST PUBLISHING AT THE RIGHT TIME...
*********************************************************************************
***************************
**
I am thrilled to be playing in TWO great memes today..
and
*******************************************************************************
There's not much I would rather do than spend the day THRIFTING..
It's a HOBBY with me and I get immense pleasure of finding things that I FALL IN LOVE with..

I can scan tables and tables of dishware and see in a glance if there's something that WANTS TO COME HOME WITH ME...

I also have it down to the letter on ONLY buying something I LUV...NEED...WANT...
hey...wait a minute...what's left ?? ;>)
*Some of you may know that I am in the thrones of finding necessary things for
OUR ALASKAN CRUISE......:)))
*
I found this ALMOST BRAND NEW carry-on SAMSONITE, RED bag that I love.
I would have thought it BRAND NEW but it had a CRUISE ID tag on it...I love that!!
*
Right beside it was this ADORABLE BLACK and WHITE CHECKED, trimmed in RED
bag, excellent condition, that my LAP TOP will fit in just PERFECTLY !!
It MUST have been made JUST FOR MOI...
I AM THRILLED !!
and I LOVE THRIFTING !!
I'd much rather spend my money on my CRUISE !!
*
RED bag...$1.00
CHECKED bag....25 cents
AMAZING !!
**
Also found this darling, tiny little cake plate...
much smaller than any of my others...
It is just beautiful...
$2.00 at Goodwill...and I am lovin' it.
*
BEVERLY...I am counting this RED as a shade of PINK..
and there's a dark PINK ceramic rose for PINK SATURDAY. :))
**
I put a little cheese board DOME on the little cake plate and, beneath, a wonderful
vintage SHAVING MUG...minus the handle...
But, isn't it beautiful...
I can't imagine MY man using this for his shaving soap...
pretty frilly for a man, I'd say...
and PLENTY PINK....
**
I have to admit that THIS is my favorite way to display a cloche..
full of BLUEBERRY MUFFINS..
:))
I think I showed you this thrifted olden bell before...remember...
it's like the HIGH DOLLAR ones at POTTERY BARN..
*

Now, I know this RUFFLED BURLAP RUNNER isn't THRIFTED...
NO SIR...
It was GIFTED !!
THE OLD PAINTED COTTAGE had this beauty as a GIVEAWAY....and I WON !

**
I just found a new, cute place to use it when it's not on my dining table...
across my THRIFTED coffee table...
*

I absolutely ADORE the way it looks here...
Instant texture to a bare, slick wooden table top...

Here's a DANDY old CARDBOARD sign...
It must be pretty olden...only 3 numbers in the PHONE NUMBER for this COAL and FEED store.
*
It's in an ugly black plastic frame so I will be replacing that...not sure I will frame it or
mount it on some kind of board....
what would YOU do with it ?
I AM thrilled that someone put it in a frame because there's no doubt that it preserved it.
This was $2.50

**
and would you take a look at these AWESOME metal holders...

*
I just about wet my pants when I found THESE on a bottom shelf
at GOODWILL..
I am TOTALLY in love with them...
...flowers
...fireplace matches
...guest towels
...awesome on the patio or fence with REAL flowers...
*

*

Yep...I WAS VERY HAPPY with my THRIFT SHOPPING...
SO happy that I decided to bake
A CHERRY CRISP for MR. SWEET...
**

WELL, as a VERY THRIFTY SHOPPER, I guess I deserve a bowl of it, too....

OOOH! What delicious treasures...your thrift items AND that cherry crisp too!

I love such old signs..I have a few. My favorites are the ones warning Sailors about no nos that were posted around Norfolk VA in the 40s. : )

Have a sweet weekend!

Mmmmm BJ that looks delish!!! I've never made Cherry Crisp before...I think I can almost smell it! Wow you found some great finds for your cruise...love the red and the checks. That sign was a real find too...I love old signs. I'm hoping that when we clean out our old barn we find something neat like that...I doubt it though but I'm still holding out hope. Love all your thrifty treasures...you're a good huntress!!!! I hope you're having a wonderful day....Maura

Wow, you really did find some wonderful thrifts and treasures. You did really good. I just love them all, but can I please have a small bit of the cherry crisp. I am a tad hungry. lol Hugs, Marty

Well I'm not sure who is luckier, you with all your thrifted treasures or your husband for getting the cherry crisp! Sounds like you both scored.

You are going to LOVE Alaska. I've been on two cruises there and would go back in a heart beat. If at all possible, try to take the helicopter ride to the glaciers. There is nothing in the world like it.

Hugs,
Joanne

I always leave your place with my mouth watering BJ! That crisp looks divine!

I agree that you need to keep saving up for that cruise-I can't believe there is only one month to go-woo hoo!

Best wishes for a beautiful weekend,
Natasha.

I even did a bit of thrifting during my time in Florida. My husband kept trying to get my mind off of things. It is addictive isn't it? I love your things...not at all surprised you grab those red and black bags:)

Now see? Your cherry crisp looks fantastic! I just can't ...well, my food just wouldn't look like that. The sides would probably be all burned...anyway..I will just come and look at your food.

Ok..now...I think..that YOU should host the Hometown Homes meme. You are a Hostess with the Mostest so you do it! I will come, post my little cottages when I have one and we will both be happy! Neat? :)
I love the idea but don't have the nerve to do such a thing or actually even the energy. Hurry before someone else does it. heh heh!

Ok? Say you will! :) How cute..the idea's are endless. You could use a favorite cottage as a button or you can even use this on on my blog. Whatever. I think you should do it!! I do!

I can't wait to start looking for my cottages. :)

So..when does it start? :):)
Hugs,
Mona
p.s. I like your new photo!! So cute! Goodness you photograph well!!

BJ, you are going to look so chic on your cruise. Those bags are both so good looking, and what bargains! Love your burlap runner! Congratulations! When I saw that sign in your header, I thought it was great and was intrigued by it. I thought it might be a family business. How neat that it was thrifted. I want to go shopping with you - those metal containers are so wonderful! Thank you so much for linking to Favorite Things. laurie

BJ, I'm impressed with all you thrifty treasures. Perfect finds for your trip and lovely new items for your home. I'd take that sign and have it framed beneath glass on a tray. It would look great sitting atop your burlap runner on your coffee table. If you can't find a ready made tray, you could have it framed and add handles to the frame.
Happy Pink Saturday!

Hello: I just found you on another blog. I need "thrift" help. I seem to always be a day late (not a dollar short). I'm always amazed at the treasures thrifty bloggers put together. I'm going to practice. I see you live in West Texas. We used to live in Lubbock. Wonderful people live there!

I've just become a "follower". Please send chocolate.

Best,
Bonnie

B.J. you are off the hook with the chocolate for now. But, when I lose all the weight I'm planning to lose, I'll be claiming that promised chocolate! = ) Uh, but don't purchase it quite yet--it could be full of maggots by the time I'm down to the desired weight!!

Best,
Bonnie

Hello BJ, it is about time I came over to visit. We were busy yesterday celebrating our anniversary. We went out to dinner and to a play. The weekend has flown by.

I love your post as always. Lucky you with your thrifty finds. Your cloche display is lovely. I would have fun with the burlap runner. It looks great on the coffee table. I like that wide ruffle.

Most of all you made me smile when I saw the cherry crisp. Girl, I always know something good is going on in your kitchen. Yum.
Love you and I love your sweet love of life.
