YEP.... THE Five and Dimes were all the rage in 1937....
with F.W. WOOLWORTH leading the pack....I can remember, years later, loving to roam the isles of the
FIVE AND DIME STORES ... a lot of the wonderful treasures I have from my mother came from
WOOLWORTH DIME STORE....
I'm thinking they were a little classier than our dollar stores of today....
...things were made a lot nicer and better, I think.

...it's like....well.....like I KNEW those cookies were gonna break....and that I was going to HAVE to eat them......*wink wink

DON'T forget to eat BLACKEYED PEAS on the 1st...for GOOD LUCK the whole year. I've eaten these tasty little peas on New Year's Day almost all my life...and I have had nothing but GOOD luck all my life...think they worked..? could be!!

Oh, and PICKET says to say "RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT" and make a wish before getting out of bed on NEW YEARS morning...I've never heard of this, Picket, out here in West Texas.... but you can bet I will do it...'cause....

*We are having a New Year's Eve and birthday party ...I will take pictures and you KNOW I will be posting all about it. I am making some of PIONEER WOMAN'S recipes and I know, IF I FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS, they will all be good and I'll want to share with you....

HAPPIEST AND SAFEST NEW YEAR TO ALL....

CHRISTMAS EVE MORNING IN WEST TEXAS....

I am almost.....ALMOST.....ashamed to even brag on OUR snow out here....

I know, compared to what a lot of areas are getting right now...

our little snow is just a baby.....

...but, BY GOLLY....we had a WHITE CHRISTMAS

for the first time in.....well....I can't remember when !!


Some little lighted holly bushes out front took on a
MAGICAL glow with all that snow on them....
I worried that the cords getting wet might cause a short thus causing a
FIRE...
but MR. SWEET assured me that it would be ok.......

brrrrr...I was so SO glad that I didn't have to get out at all ....

I am thankful that my family all live close so that no one had to be on the highway

because, beneath this tiny snow is the DREADED...

BLACK ICE !!

...just look at all of them....just sitting there...waiting to be TORN into and ooo'd and ahhh'd over.....
and, it didn't take 15 minutes until paper was flyin'..bows were unraveled...grins were all over the place...

In a couple of days...stacks of "STUFF" were all over my cottage...

stacks of beautiful and loved CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS....
Faux sugared fruits....and Christmas signs....

candles and bowls...Santa Clause music boxes.... cranberry kissing balls...

Wreaths and greenery...more candles and berries...

o...I do love CHRISTMAS...

BUT.........

I am always SO glad to get every treasured thing packed away safely..banished back to

SWEET NOTHINGS attic for another year...
and my cottage vacuumed and dusted and everything back in it's place...

AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING...

Two days before Christmas, I had to drive right in front of a new GOODWILL...

I didn't plan on stopping...was just going to HONK as I drove by...

something just seemed to whisper in my ear that there were THINGS in there that I just might

It was ONE DOLLAR....
