PINK SATURDAY HAUNTED HOUSE......booooo

Many thanks to our friend, BEVERLY, for this PINK-A-BOO DAY...

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

......boooooooooo

***********************************************************
The Winchester Mystery House is a well-known California mansion that was under construction continuously for 38 years, and is reported to be HAUNTED.
***
It once was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, but is now a tourist attraction. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around-the-clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[2] The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million[3] (if paid in 1922, this would be equivalent to almost $70 million in 2008 dollars).[4]

The mansion is renowned for its size and utter lack of any master building plan. According to popular belief, Winchester thought the house was haunted by the ghosts of individuals killed by Winchester rifles, and that only continuous construction would appease them. It is located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, California.

*****
My AUNT LILLIAN lived in SAN JOSE, CA. in the 50's
and I spent 2 weeks with her one summer.
She took me to see this MYSTERY MANSION
and it is without a doubt, like nothing I had ever seen before or since.
The STRANGEST house on the planet....and so so interesting...
**
It has ALWAYS been thought that ghosts of people killed by the Winchester rifles
roamed throughout the entire mansion.... and that MRS. WINCHESTER thought that the only way to keep them from haunting her was to have continous building to her house. Never mind that most of it made no sense whatsoever !
***

This is one of the rooms that I remember so well...the ball room..... it's a BEAUTIFUL room but I was so busy looking around, hoping to see a ghost, that I barely saw the room !!
**

No building plans and the urgent need the lady of the house felt to keep construction going,
there were doors that lead to NOWHERE...
there's TALL doors....and SHORT doors...
doors that were useless....
**
I remember opening one door that had a solid brick wall behind it....strange, indeed...
it kinda made the hair on the back of my neck stand up !!
boooooooooo

Now, some might say this photo above is of a ghost... NOT ME, THO!!
****
These stairs lead right to the ceiling...and then...there ya are!
***

Everything with the pinkish roof is THE house....
****

But, how can a house THIS beautiful harbor GHOSTS ???
***

Noooo....I don't believe in ghosts.....

except maybe on HALLOWEEN NIGHT......booooooo
******
If you haven’t found enough spooky things to do in Sacramento, one of the most famous haunted houses in the U.S. is only a couple hours drive. The Winchester Mansion is located at 525 S. Winchester Blvd, San Jose, CA
*
So if you are looking for some ghostly fun ,they are having flashlight tours on Friday, October 31, Halloween night. The tours of the 160 room mansion are conducted with only moonlight and the flashlight each person will receive at the beginning of the tour. Tickets are $43 and you can buy them online; it is probably a good idea to do that before you make the drive because I hear they sometimes sell out on spooky occasions like this.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all ......and to all a GOOD NIGHT !!

love and kisses, bj

I've always been fascinated with this house too. My Grandmother had a brochure book from when she visited in the 80's and i have it now. My sister went a few years ago too and really enjoyed it. What a fascinating woman Mrs. Winchester must have been...or just plain weird! Happy Pink and Happy Halloween!

How sad, it sounds like all that money wasn't worth the guilt the Winchesters felt about their product. I have always been fascinated with the house though. It is so huge! I wonder how long it would take to go through the whole thing. DO you suppose there are rooms you can't even get to?

Oh I think I remember my husband talking about this place before. You know he travels and sees all kinds of neat stuff...and eats at great places...while I have PBJ. :) I'd rather be where I am though.

Happy Day!

This was a fascinating post, BJ. That one aerial view is stunning. I loved the tour and if I'm ever in the area will make it a point to visit the mansion. Do you ever have the thought that some folks misappropriated the money the gods of fortune dealt them :-). Have a wonderful Pink Saturday.

BJ, haunted or not, that is a beautiful house!!

HAPPY PS!

Wowee, the mansion is just beautiful, but obviously Mrs. Winchester didn't know squat about ghosts. They do NOT like constant construction. At least, in an older home, any kind of demo can get the ghosts all stirred up!

Justine :o )

I think this story is great, thankyou for such a fun post. I love a house that has doors leading to nowhere. What an imagination they had and the money to do all those fun things with. Ghosts? I like the idea but can't say for sure, I never close the door completely on that subject, if I did, who would scare me??!! Happy Pink Saturday and Happy Halloween too, Char

I visited the Winchester House about ten years ago and I must say that it was a very unusual house.

I wonder if they decorate it for Halloween...

How FABULOUS and how interesting too. I'm sure I've seen that staircase featured in a film: The Changeling, with George C Scott, made back in the 70s I think.
