ROCKIN' IN THE TREE TOPS ALL THE DAY LONG....

OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY...
hosted by sweet SUSAN over at A SOUTHERN DAYDREAMER..
Please drop by and see her and all the others listed that
want to share their ourdoors with you...
THANKS, SUSAN
and
MY THANKS to everyone for stopping by my place today...
*
THIS is our HUGH pecan tree in the front yard...
it shades most of the yard and this year,
MADE MORE PECANS THAN IT EVER HAS !!
Woo Hoo...
I LOVE pecans and put them in nearly everything I bake....
*
MOST of the pecans fell off the tree and Mr. Sweet and I nearly broke
our backs, picking them all up...
SOME of the pecans are still clinging to the tree, however..
so granddaughter, BAILEY KAY,
decided she would get some of them down....
GOOD GRIEF.... this is a 40 ft. tree !!
*
Look at that little monkey up there..
"You're getting toooooo high, Bailey...."
*
"OK, I'm coming down."....
Whew...it looks like she is falling a loooong way but actually she was
pretty close to the ground here...GOOD JOB, BAILEY..
*
We took 80 lbs to the custom sheller
and got back
about 10 or 11 quart size bags...
some went to family, some to friends...
and some to our freezer...!!
We still have more to pick up, 2 grocery sacks full to take
to the sheller and probably more will fall off the tree...
LOTS of pecans this year...
I LOVE IT !!
*

Oh, yeah.....and some went into a
PECAN PIE.. ;)
*

IT CAN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS when you love PECAN PIE...
*
As good as ALL Pecan pies are, somehow, they seem to taste even BETTER
when you've grown the pecans yourself.... I feel like a farmer.... ;O)

OH BJ, What beautiful pecans and such a large tree. We have some little ones but I wonder if I will live to get any pecans....with this heat, we are losing some little trees.

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

Oh yeah!! My favorite pie, too. There is nothing like west Texas pecans. Anyone going to Texas from Colorado always brings back pecans. Yum. Sally

I'm with Mary, a pecan tree in your yard, I am so jealous! I drive to Lane Farms in Georgia every year to stock up on pecans and their jarred peaches. The peaches where I live are terrible and they do all the work for me. What goes together better than pecans and peaches?

However, I do have an old family friend in Fort Worth who always sends me some for my holiday pies.

Sue said...

wow you lucky girl BJ!! That tree is amazing, I go crazy picking out the sugared pecans when I buy a can of mixed nuts! I never see them sold separately up here. Makes my mouth water seeing those bags of pecans! xo

Shari @ My Cottage of Bliss said...

I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw all the bags of pecans, BJ! You lucky thing! EVERYTHING tastes better if it has pecans in it, right?!

And I would have been a nervous wreck watching your cutie pie granddaughter so high up in that tree. Yikes!

OH MY GOODNESS! Fresh pecan right in your yard! bj...I just said I wasn't jealous of THINGS but ...I AM jealous of those delicious pecans...and all for free! They are beautiful..
I keep a bag in my freezer..(Costo of course!) and nibble on them in the evening...my favorite nut!
That pie looks delicious...just delicious!!
Mom and Dad had one in their front yard..but it was cut down just before they passed away. Many a wonderful after noon were spent under that tree...and many a wonderful pie or dessert were made from those pecans.
I LOVED this post!!
~smiles and love~

Wow...what a bumper crop of Pecans!
And the pie looks scrumptious, as Mama always said.
This reminds me of my Papa...he had Black Walnut trees and grew peanuts.
As a child shelling them was a novelty...but I understand why you take them to the sheller...you'd be shelling til your fingers were nubs! LOL

Brenda Pruitt said...

Pecans are my all-time favorite nut. I wish I had a pecan tree. I have a pear tree, but oddly enough I don't like pears. I remember climbing those trees as a child. Fearless!

I love pecan pie! My two Kens don't like it so I only get it when I go to church potlucks.
I have an Aunt in NC that gives me pecans when I get down there which I haven't for a while. You have an awesome tree.

During the early 60's my first husband was in the USAF. He was stationed at Barksdale, in Louisiana. We used to go out on the base reservation to pick pecans, in the big pecan grove, every year. I wonder if those trees are still there.
Your pie look so good, BJ!

Hello BJ!

Oh my do I love pecan pie!!:o) For me when it comes to pie there are few pies that come close!:o) Your photos are wonderful and what a beautiful tree. I could sit down with a bag of those fresh pecans and a tall glass of ice tea and oh my goodness don't bother me.:o)

OMG, a pecan tree..that's awesome. We have a black walnut tree in our yard, and it's such a pain to pick them all up. Not only picking, but you have to do some kind of drying thingie..no idea what it is!

Hey, heard from Justine, that you're a farmer on facebook...send me your "handle" and I'll add you as a buddy!

Hugz,
Michele

Beverly said...

Okay, that's it. I love pecans, and I'm on my way over to your house right this minute.

Please have some pecan pie left when I get there.

Justine said...

Holy cow, that's a lot of pecans! Not my favorite nut by far, but it must be fun to have them falling from the tree right in your yard. I can't believe you actually have a "custom sheller" there. Holy cow. I learn something new every day.
Do you spell huge like that on purpose? something that I've missed? I've just noticed it a few times and always in capitals.

Justine :o )

Kathleen said...

That was so interesting! I never knew there were professional shellers..
And you are right, I bet the pie tastes great as you grew the nuts!

~~Rhonda said...

Pecan pie...my favorite!! Yum! Looks like you had a great helper picking pecans! Fun shots! Thanks for sharing! ~~Rhonda

bj - PECAN PIE is my FAVORITE pie ever. And having pecan tree's at my grandma's house when I was growing up is one of the most missed parts of Texas. I loved them! They are such fantastic shade trees - and strong, too! As your little monkey demonstrated! :) So happy that you have so many bags ... wanna send one up to NY? LOL! J/K! I'd take a pie though! LOL!
