#2 TRAIN WRECK FOODIE FRIDAY

GOLLUM at DESIGNS BY GOLLUM
is our favorite host for
FOODIE FRIDAY

THIS week...it's all about
TRAIN WRECKS IN THE KITCHEN

awww, come on, JUNE CLEAVER...!
Surely even YOU have had
train wrecks !!
*
As pretty as these bright red strawberries are,
THEY were the cause of an absolute TRAIN WRECK
the other evening in MY red kitchen...
Just by the simple step of adding something EXTRA
to a box mix of STRAWBERRY MUFFINS..
who knew ?
*
first of all, i used a loaf pan instead of muffin tins...
and this cute RED loaf pan is one of those
flexible ones that aren't supposed to stick...
aren't SUPPOSED to stick...
*

IT STUCK !

and, not only did it STICK....it was at least ONE HALF as thick as it should have been !!
Actually, MORE than half....it should have been MUCH higher...MUCH prettier...
MUCH more delicious looking...!!
The added weight of the STRAWBERRIES ?
beats me...but I THINK that is exactly what it was....

being the STRAWBERRY lovers that we are....
we just sliced that little, flat, not very good lookin cake,
added dollops of sweet whipped creme
and ate it ALL....every single bit...
*************************************************
AND...... another TRAIN WRECK that happened
over and over and over again in my RED kitchen...
I am pretty sure I have mentioned this more than once....

i can't begin to count the times that my
FUDGE
didn't get thick enuf to slice...
*
Our son, DAVID, thought, until he was grown,
that you were SUPPOSED
to eat it with a spoon !!
in fact...that was the way he preferred it at that time....:O)
********
Please stop by GOLLUM'S delightful site
and check out all the other good, ole train wrecks
that
HAPPEN TO ALL OF US.....ONE TIME OR ANOTHER !!

Those heavy strawberries!!! I would have just done what you did--pile that whipped cream up to the intended heighth! Not a problem :)

Even though they are trainwrecks, BJ, they look pretty tasty to me! I would be sitting there, shovling them down as fast as you could serve 'em up! And the liquid fudge, too!

Loved this and your cute red dishes and cooking things...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Even if the strawberry cake didn't rise and look like it was suppossed to, I bet it sure tasted good. I won't even talk about fudge. I just can't make fudge no matter what I do. Great post. Hugs, Marty

Our family eats all of out train wrecks too:) I once sent fudge to a soldier in Iraq when the war first started and had no idea it was over 100 degrees so he ended up with a tupperware full of goop. I should blog about this as this was funny.

Haha, my stepmom sometimes has a hard time with fudge too. I bet the strawberries just kept it from fluffing up. I'm sure it still tasted yummy lol.

All the best,
Allison

What's life without a train wreck here and there...just as long as we don't get bummed around too much!

Stay Cozy, Carrie

Don't hate me! LOL LOL

I love seeing the trainwrecks! Everybody always puts such beautiful pics up, but you know that sometimes there has got to be a clunker in there somewhere. It makes me feel better to know that I'm by far not the only one who has had something turn out differently than it was supposed to!

I would so have eaten the strawberry dessert too!

my kids think a lot of things are "supposed" to look the way I make them lol....I am so not a cook, that everything ends up a trainwreck here! lol
I hope you have a great weekend!

The strawberry loaf still looks delicious! xxx

I would have done exactly what you did! Is there anything that whipped cream can't fix? I love fudge, but don't have much luck with it. But there is a Rocky Mt Candy Company right up the road lol! Kathy

That is so funny! I can't believe those evil strawberries went and ruined your pretty muffins :(

Well, I guess it's true, whipped cream can save all :)

Happy day from sits.

I don't count anything as a train wreck if it can still be eaten!
And I cannot get my silicone bakeware to work correctly. Drives me nuts.

I had to laugh at your strawberry bread. I've had things come out like that so many times. We eat it any way.

Fudge is the worst!! My husband is the fudge maker here. He uses a very old fashioned recipe from Hershey's cocoa. We've eaten big globs of it with a spoon many times. It still tastes like perfection. :)

Carrie said...

It's not always how it looks but it is always how it tastes. YummmmmmmY!

Oh boy ! I will try this recipe.I love easy ones .

My mom always told me to make fudge when the weather is dry or the fudge will stay too soft. I don't know if that's true but it does work better in dry weather...not humid or rainy weather.

GM BJ, now girl that flat cake looks like a few I have done ha ha!! I also am great with the 2 layers cakes and one side is higher than the other and you try to make it look even with icing on the top ha ha!! Girl I did a new recipe 2 weeks ago a Baja pie and it was so pretty when to get my camera and by the time I got back into the kitchen Len had cut it and was eating my prop's ha ha!!
Now the spoon fudge my daughter does...May you have a great weekend my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Good morning BJ! I'm glad your train wreck still tasted good. I made brownies when I had the ladies over, and one lady said, oh this fudge is delicious. I just said thank you! lol

I have a flex cakepan and it stuck! What's with that? I bet it still tasted wonderful.

Salmagundi said...

No problem with the strawberry loaf - you did the only acceptable thing piling on the cream!! Sauces and whipped cream have saved many a day around here. Have a great weekend. Sally

I wondered about those flexible loaf pans..they look so colorful. Oh well I bet it tasted just as good as it was supposed to look. Never mind about the fudge. I boil it until you could use it as sugary hockey pucks.

Well...maybe it didn't look so great...but it sure tasted great it seems. Wish I'd had a chance to test it!

I bet it was the strawberries, but what can you do - just eat the evidence. It still sounds good to me! I've had fudge mishaps too - but that's so cute about your son! ~ Robyn

I love strawberries so I think it was a great idea to put them in the muffin/loaf. Too bad it caused it not to rise but it still sounds yummy!

Shari @ My Cottage of Bliss said...

I love the fudge story...eat it with a spoon! Too funny.

Train wrecks in the kitchen happen to all of us...sooner or later...if we're honest!

Thanks for the laugh out so loud, that my work mate came over to see what I was laughing about!!! I needed that. The part about your son had me rolling ..as if your "Strawberry Flat Bread" was not enough!

Don't even get me started on my kitchen train wrecks.

Are you telling me that you're supposed to slice fudge? I agree with your son, eating it with a spoon is the best way! That strawberry cake looks so good, even if it is a little flat! your train wrecks don't look bad (at least they are still edible)! Mine go in the garbage. laurie

Hi dearest!
I don't think anything you make would be a train wreck. I would never turn down anything you made BJ. I'd even eat fudge with a spoon! LOL!

BJ, I never could make fudge, bless my Mom's heart, she tried everything to help me and finally one day she came to me with a recipe that even I couldn't fail at. Needless to say it is the only recipe I use and I haven't tried any others, and it has been probably 25 years since she brought it to me.

Hi BJ it is late but this may be my last visit for awhile. We leave in the morning, probably much later as I am still packing. LOL. Our company let this morning. Whew, I was tired.

Your strawberry cake sill looked very good. I would have eaten it too. I love strawberries. You should make that fantasy fudge. It is a no fail fudge. I have tried to make it fail a few times. If cooked too long it gets very hard.

I posted tomorrow and left an announcement about leaving on vacation. I will miss our visits but I will comment when I have service.

Take care my dear sister friend.

Love...Jeanne

If I cooked I could have a "train Wreck" but I pretty much play it safe! I think I "cooked" myself to death when I was young and now..you have to twist my arm...HARD! I ARE a train wreck!

Kathleen said...

As long as it tasted good, no train wreck!
I am glad you enjoyed every bite of it! :)
