"Can you bake a Cherry Pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy....

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE WEEK AGAIN...
FRIDAY......FOODIE FRIDAY
hosted by GOLLUM
*

I love all these ladies.."THE GIRLS" we call ourselves....
We try to meet each month for lunch and visiting...Here we are, last month, in front of
SUGARBAKERS CAFE AND BAKERY..
*
We decided to start meeting at each others house for awhile...
just a change of pace and save a few dollars, too..
**
This month, my contribution to the Mexican Lunch was
homemade SALSA (i've already shared that recipe with you)
and
A CHERRY PIE.....
****************
I gathered all my ingredients...
using canned Cherry pie filling but added butter and vanilla,
cooking it until all was melted before adding to my pie crust...
OK...my recipe from my Aunt Lola for a
NO FAIL PIE CRUST....and it is sooooo good...
BUT, horror of horrors....
I can't find my recipe......
bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....
*
Had to resort to a cookbook for a pie crust recipe..
found one that used an egg...very strange...but I tried it....
JUST keeping it real, girls...
YEP....welcome to the real world !
This is so pitiful I don't know what to do....
Bwaaaaaa...I CAN'T take THIS to THE GIRLS !!!!!!
This crust and I fought all OVER my red kitchen....
flour being flung everywhere...
even Mr. Sweet got a little on him!
Well, after patching and rubbing the CRATERS with cool water
and using fingers to even things out, it is FINALLY
beginning to LOOK like a pie crust...
maybe....
*
Once those bright red, sweet cherries go into it,
I'm not even looking at that ole crust...
Maybe I CAN take this to the girls...
(i know that a lot of people call their breasts THE GIRLS !)
well, THEY are coming with us to eat!!) tee hee.....
be awkward trying to leave THEM at home!
:>)
* Got the lattice crust on the top...
and my little PIE BIRD perched right in the middle...
He is supposed to keep the pie from bubbling over...
and he is so cute doing it !!
NOW...it is lookin' pretty good at this point
but sometimes....TRAIN WRECKS HAPPEN IN THE OVEN....
things don't always come out looking like you think they oughta!!
Seems they take on a whole new personality sometimes...
awh, man...I hope it is FRIEND LUNCHEON worthy !!!!!
*
I laughed so hard when I saw this photo...
he looks like a real little bird with his mouth open....
*
He didn't do his job all that well.....spilled over a bit...
ah...but it does look good...
******
*I took it to the luncheon and it was just fine...
especially with a couple of scoops of
VANILLA BEAN ICE CREME...;O)

*
*
later in the week, i made another cherry pie...
we didn't get our fill from the other one.
made a double crusted one this time and
my Pie Bird did a MUCH better job of keeping all
that good juice INSIDE the pie....
*****************
that's the one in my header...
*

Do you ever make these little Pie Crust Sticks with your left over crust?
I always do...
just cut into strips, brush with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on them...
pop them in the over until brown...
they are good and crisp and Mr. Sweet really likes them...
My Aunt Lola taught me that !!
***********
*
"i can bake a cherry pie,
quick as a cat can wink his eye...
i'm a young thing and can not leave my mother.......
**

Bake a pie today and see if you have as much fun as I did...haha.. and many thanks for coming by to see me on this FABULOUS FOODIE FRIDAY.....don't forget to visit all the ones that GOLLUM has a list of.....

XO bj

BJ, that pies looks so good I can taste it, and so do those sugar and cinnamon sticks. Did I spell that right??? My baking usually ends up as a train wreck so I'm particularly impressed with baked goods, and both of your pies look good AND delicious.

Once upon a time I was a tester for a cookbook, and I figured if I could make the recipe, it was foolproof! LOL! I did a gingerbread recipe that was the biggest mess you have ever seen in your life. Suffice it to say, we gave it the thumbs down for the cookbook. And Mr. Magpie (who volunteered to eat what I cooked) and I had something else that we called parmesan party gaggers. Oh, they were nasty! ;-)

But I think your pies are both blogworthy!

Love to you...

XO,

Sheila :-)

P.S. Did you ever find your aunt's recipe? Is that it in the second picture?

Oh, and I love the girls! Wish I was in Texas so I could eat and visit with you!

Sheila :-)

Well...you sound like those cherry pies make you a little naughty! ;o)
They look good to me whether or not the little bird worked! I bet your friends loved them!

You brought back a childhood memory. When I was a child my mother always made pie crust sticks with the leftover dough. They were delicious.

Pie crust sticks!!! What a great idea. I had never even thought of that before.

The pie looks delish!!

I love it that you and your friends get together every month. That is so nice. Your pie looks wonderful and I'm sure it tasted the same way. I will have to make one really soon. Thanks for stopping by, my chocolate pie recipe probably is the same one your mom made. It's an old recipe and been around for a very long time. I appreciate the visit. Hugs, Marty

Yum yum yummmmm look at all the cherries in your pie. I wish you had invited me!! The birdie is just like mine! He did an excellent job the 2nd time for sure...so he was a good birdie.

Thats so nice to have a group of girls to meet with and enjoy lunch and a good time.

thank you for sharing on Foodie Friday...now you have me wishing I had a piece of cherry pie.

Do you ever cheat and buy the Pilsbury one you just roll out? I like to cheat and do that sometimes. My pie crust recipe also uses an egg and some vinegar and water.

have a lovely day

Hi BJ,
wow it looks like your pie came out looking pretty yummy looking! Oh for a slice of that right this very minute (mouth watering.) I've never made a homemade pie! I'd better stay out of my kitchen and just order one from Marie Callenders...LOL!

I had to smile when I saw your Lefton Pin Money bank. I have three of them and I tell you, I'm always being teased by my friends because they want to walk out the door with them. I love yours very much as it is different from the ones I do have. I wonder how many patterns there are? I don't know to much about them really and never met anyone until now that actually had one. I'll have to do a Pink Saturday post on them soon.

I'll see you at Pink Saturday!

Deanna :D

BJ,

You did a fine job and the pies look delicious. I love your little bird. He's cute.

I taught Brandon how to bake a pie. I let him buy pre-made pie at the grocery store and then taught him how to open the can and put the pie filling in the crust, using the second pie crust for the top. He can make a good pie. LOL

I'm sure you and the girls have a lot of fun at your luncheons.

Blessings,
Mary

Yummy!!!
I do make those little sticks. I would rather have the crust of a pie or cobbler than the fruit and pie together! So the sticks fit right in with that!!

I am NOT kidding! I fell off my chair on this one. Soooo funny bj!! They always say it doesn't matter what it looks like..but there are times.. lol..it would be nice if it was picture perfect.
It looked delicious!
Mona
p.s. I used to let my little ones make those with my left over dough. It was always a big deal to them.
bj...everything you do turns out beautiful. See...I think of you like you do of Tina...LOL SO there!! :)

Few things in life are more precious than a group of 'girls' to spend an afternoon with. I am so thankful you and your 'girls' have kept your commitment to spend time together, in spite of the ailing economy! BTW, those pies look absolutely mouth-watering! And, I don't even LIKE cherry pie!

BJ,

Both pies look like they tasted scrumptious. I am no means a baker, but maybe you just needed a bigger pie pan. But those cherries overflowing just got my mouth watering!!;-)

You just keep it up girl! You haven't dished up anything yet that I wouldn't wolf down!!

You know, Jean, that pie was so good I never noticed that it boiled over a little. Aren't pies supposed to do that? My mother always made the little pie crust sticks and I carried on the tradition with my kids. That's just something a little special to children I think. (That mother's love thing, you know.)

Love you!

I've never seen a bird or anything else that you put on a pie so it doesn't boil over. That's a new one.
Sometimes things that taste the best don't always look the best and visa versa...I'll bet it was delish.
Have a happy weekend.

I laughed out loud when you said your pie crust looked pitiful...well with horses we say "pretty is as pretty does!" and I imagine it to be true with pies as well. It is all about the taste! ...and by the time you were done, the pie was beautiful!

Hey - I finally posted some GOOD news on my blog for a change!

I should have taken a picture of a blueberry pie I made a couple of weeks ago...juice all over the bottom of my oven! lol Good thing I put foil on the bottom at all times!! Your cherry pie still looked yummy. What a fun group of gals you have there and I can well imagine what it's like when you get together:-) I've always made "Nun's Farts" with my leftover pie dough but will have to try it your way. Same idea with the butter, cinnamon and sugar but mine are rolled up and sliced. Don't ask me why they're called Nun's Farts, though! LOL xoxo

No!! I can't bake a cherry pie - pie crust is the one thing I haven't been able to master in the kitchen after 50 years. I need Aunt Lola's recipe!!! BTW, when I have made pie crust, we roll up the scraps with cinnamon & sugar like little cinnamon rolls and bake them. Yum! Sally

Your pie looks delicious. We used to bake the left over pie crust pieces, but we never put cinnamon on them. Now I usually use the store bought crusts. That song brings back memories, I remember it from when I was a child. I think we had an old 78 that had that song on it.
