my something pink for october...breast cancer awareness month ***************************
BLUE MONDAY..... What a WONDERFUL way to start off our long week !
THANK YOU,
for hosting this BEAUTIFUL day.....
Everyone be sure to go over and see all the BLUES on Parade ...
and please leave SALLY a note that you were there !
I noticed lots of BLUE books in my bookshelves today....
There's a few in there that make me BLUE when I read them.....
but mostly there's pretty HAPPY books.
I LOVE FICTION....sooo much!
Love stories...
Murder Mysteries......
Adventure........
but never, for me, anything to do with HISTORY....
just not my cup of tea and besides,
BILL reads enough HISTORY for the both of us and because he LOVES to talk about what he reads, I HEAR IT ALL !! *sigh.......
just a little BLUE and white frame holding a photo of
MY baby and HER baby....
SWEETHEARTS !
i am blessed !
A little stack of soft, warm, homemade PATCHWORK quilts with touches of different
SHADES OF BLUE....
I am not good at sewing at all but so wanted to make a quilt or two. My mom was so good at it and I am so so so sorry I didn't take the time to let her teach ME how to make a pretty quilt.
SOOOOO.......I just bought some fabrics, cut the squares, sit down at my mother's old
SINGER sewing machine, said a little prayer like, "Mom, if you can see me, give me just a wee bit of help on this, if you please." and started sewing.
Nothing fancy....
just a simple NINE PATCH ..
but, all the little, tiny squares MATCHED up with each other....and, that's what the book said should happen .....
and I WAS THRILLED !
I quilted it by machine...wouldn't have a CLUE how to do it by hand...and wouldn't WANT to!!
I really wanted to make each of our 10 grandchildren ONE quilt each....just so that, someday, they could say "My grandmother made this for me" so after making the first one, I bought all the fabric and made TEN PATCHWORK QUILTS during that year and had them ready for........CHRISTMAS GIFTS !
never have made another one, either !! and probably never will !! :O)
This wooden, hand painted BLUE cross hangs above the bed in my pink room for my beloved
overnight guests.
I know it makes them feel blessed and that is just the way I want them to feel...
oooo, just seeing this right this minute on my screen brings tears to my eyes.
GOOD TEARS, mind you...TEARS OF JOY.....TEARS OF LOVE...TEARS OF
DAYS GONE BY....
This little silhouette is of one of my grandsons, BROOKS, and he made it
JUST FOR ME...
The letter beneath it says,
IN HIS WORDS...
"DearMemaw,
This is my profile. This is me in first grade and I am six years old.
Think you for helping me in first grade. I made you a profile for you.
I love you."
Love, Brooks
(by this time, every time i read this, tears flow and snot runs!!)
**************
My darlin'..
My Little Man..
he is now 15 years old and so so sweet.
I miss him t 6....yes, I do!
But, I've had 9 more years for that love to grow and it grows every day...
just like with the rest of our grandchildren...
AND, HE IS GOING TO BE ON THE CRUISE SHIP WITH US FOR 7 WHOLE DAYS!
YIPEE !!!
AHHHHHH, WHAT A LITTLE CUTIE..
in an AB C box.. and the A is BLUE :O)....
Just looking at this picture takes me all the way back to this time in my GOLDEN BOY'S life...
You know that feeling you get when you put your nose in the bend of their little necks...smells so sweet and so soft...I would start kissing all over his little face and just almost BITE him...I never did but I would get pretty carried away with my kisses! *smiling
This photo of DREW was taken by his 'other' granddad who is a professional photographer
and it was shown in several PHOTO SHOWINGS at different businesses in our town.
I walked into a principals office once and there, above her desk, was this picture.
She didn't know him but saw the photo, thought it was so cute, got a copy and had it framed and hung.
I JUST LOVED IT!
I loved that I got to tell her that "this is MY grandson!"
our little GOLDEN BOY is 18 now and all grown up...
"where did all the flowers go??"
OOO, and, yes....HE is going CRUISING, too !! *giggle and smile ...
This is one of my favorite paintings in my cottage...
A very good friend did it for me years ago and I have never gotten tired of it...
Another TREASURE I want to share with you on this fabulous
BLUE MONDAY....
A little, wooden recipe box, trimmed in BLUE, that, if my house ever catches on fire and I have time to get only ONE thing to rescue, it will be THIS !!
BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER and her two little boys....
long before she had two little girls....
BILL made this adorable bench and another for the other side of the table...
With such a large family, I didn't want gobs of chairs around my large dining table SOOO,
BILL worked his magic and, WALLA...
Each bench holds 4 little butts or 3 bigger ones!!
oh.....and
I found this amazing, BLUE rug at a moving sale for $25.00 and its about a 14x16.
Really nice and I sure have loved it in the dining room with all the BLUE and white dishes!
***********************
Well, that about does it for this
BLUE MONDAY....
OH, WAIT...
I just noticed the buttons on the remote are BLUE.... (imagine THAT!)
so I can watch......
AND...
I KNOW THEY ARE OLD......BUT......SO AM I !!
Ya'll have a wonderful week....
and DON'T BE BLUE...BE HAPPY....

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Sheila. I love your story about the quilts you made for your grandkids. I made quilts for my boys when they were little, and it's such a lovely 'from the heart' item for them to cherish.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
How nice to share some memories with you over my coffee. Your husband is so talented.
ReplyDelete:-) Rosie
BJ, I loved this post, especially seeing your beautiful quilts that were made with so much love by your hands that were guided by your grandchildren's great-grandmother. What precious heirlooms for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd your stories about Brooks and Drew spoke to my heart. Our little granddaughter is three now, and seems to be growing before our eyes. I want her to be a baby for just a while longer.
Thank you for a beautiful and meaningful "Blue Monday."
Sincerely,
Janie
BJ, you're blog is awesome. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Chris
Happy Blue Monday to you, BJ.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love every post you ever write. You always seem to speak to my heart. I'm so proud of you for making those quilts. What an incredible accomplishment.
And of course, I love all of your blues.
Tell your Bill I like historical books, too.
lol "they are old and so am I" lol
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday! I must ask: do you have anything left for next week? I sure hope so, because I've enjoyed your blue display this week. I oohed and aahed over everything, the bookshelves, looking so professionally arranged, Brooks sweet present, your recipe box, that pretty blue-topped bench, made by special hands, and that gorgeous rug bought so cheaply.
What a lovely post; we really got to learn a lot about you and your family! I keep everything my nephews & niece make for me, they are my most important treasures.
ReplyDeleteHi BJ!
ReplyDeleteYOU WON! Please email me with your mailing info at momsidner@yahoo.com .

ReplyDeleteI love the quilts! I have never made one -- I am not good at lining things up exactly. How neat that yours came out well and you made several more to give away.

So Much Blue! I love your quilts and your bench. Happy blue Monday.
ReplyDeleteHi BJ...If you and I weren't so close in age, I'd want you to be MY grandmother too! Lovely post from you today as always... ;-) Bo

ReplyDeleteI just loved looking at your sentimental blue treasures. I have a poem with a picture that my son did for me when he was eleven in my kitchen. I reread it often. It is just one of those so sweet things. He is 23 now.

Betty

You have shared so much today! I love that you made quilts for all of your grandchildren. I started one for my daughter when she was three. She's 28 now and I haven't ever finished it!!! Maybe someday it will go to my granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteThe silhouette of your grandson was very sweet and I think if I were you I would be crying tears of joy each time I read it as well.
take care,
Dawn
Such delightful blue items...even the remote control!! hehe It brought tears to my eyes when I saw that silhouette picture of your grandson that he had made in school...both my boys had made me one when they were in first grade and I still have them:-) They do grow up so fast and like you, I miss those days. You really did a fabulous job on those quilts, considering it was your first time making them, they're gorgeous!!
