TEXAS SWEET TEA

I AM GUESSING THAT MOST EVERY STATE LOVES SWEET TEA....
I know most of us here in WEST TEXAS love it....

RHONDA over at SCOOTERBLU'S WHIMSY had an Iced Tea Party the other day and I told her our teas here in Texas may not be as gracious as in the SOUTH.....
but.....
we can put on a pretty good spread along with our tea.....
She said, "Let me see"

so here's a quick "Texas Put Together' to go along with an ice cold glass of SWEET TEA, between friends !!
(If you will, go over and check out her lovely tea and her pretty blog....)

Shaved ice and lemon along with that SUGAR.......:O)

Multi grain crackers with creme cheese and chives.......

A bowl of Red Skin Spanish Peanuts........

Today, it is APPLE MUFFINS with MAPLE FROSTING for your sweet tooth.....

Some days, when we have more time, we love Little Smokie Cocktail Sausage,

simmering in Grape Jelly in a small crock pot.

(It may sound a little strange to ya but, believe me, it is GOOOOD )

If we know you are coming, we try to make a PIE....

We LOVE pie.

Today, this one is

TEXAS LIME PIE

and not only is it really tasty......
It is soooo easy to make.

I must mention here that I got a little heavy handed with the GREEN cake coloring...

It is looking a little POISON here but.......it's NOT.

Hmmmmm....pretty green.....Well, I can say the limes were OVER RIPE, hence the intense color of GREEN ~ ;o)

TEXAS LIME PIE

3 eggs, separated

1 (14 os) can EAGLE BRAND Sweetened Condensed Milk

1/3 cup lime juice

2 - 3 drops of green food coloring (I musta put about 5...oops)

1 (9 inch) Graham Cracker Crust

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/3 cup sugar

************

Preheat oven to 325. In medium bowl, beat egg yolks, gradually beat in EAGLE BRAND MILK and lime juice until smooth. Stir in food coloring. Pour mixture into pie crust. Bake 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Increase oven to 350.

In a large bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tarter on high speed until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Spread meringue over hot pie, bake about 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown.

Cool about an hour than put in fridge for at least 3 hrs.

So glad you could join us for tea....

COME BACK ANYTIME, YA'LL

I think I will head South and then back west and land in your kitchen for some of this pie. Just kidding-but it looks great!

You know I have always had my tea unsweetened but for some reason lately I have had nothing but sweet tea...hmmm...wonder why? Spanish peanuts are one of my favorite snacks. ~ Lynn

Lovely tea party and the key lime pie looks good!
I've never seen iced sweet tea offered on menus here in CA! I suspect it's mostly a southern thing?
Thanks for inviting us..

Oh that pie looks soooooo yummy BJ! I LOVE sweet tea and I always have it in the fridge at home. If I'm out I drive through Starbucks and order black iced tea sweetened because out here in CA they don't know what sweet tea is. Silly I know.

Hugs,
Dena

Okay...when you pulled out all stops with the SHAVED ice...apple critters (we have those in the south too, LOL!)...and the LIME PIE!...you had me beat, girl! Hands down!

When I was 18, I went to Hawaii for my HS grad gift, and another girl and I, (she was about 19), went to eat one night and we both ordered "iced teas"...we left there VERY HAPPY! LOL! Their iced tea was a little different than ours! LOL! We had no idea it was alcoholic...when we got back to our room...like LUCY, we had some "splanin to do!"

I might just try that Lime Pie for Mother's Day Sunday! Great post! "smiles"

Hugs, Rhonda

Hi BJ, what a fantastic spread, I can't say I'm a fan of iced tea myself but your nibbles and lime pie look delicious. I may need to pop over some time for some cookery lessons!
Have a lovely weekend,

When I first moved here to Kansas from Texas, one of the many things that I missed was iced, cold, sweet tea....the other is TEXAN Mexican food..oh and trees--the lovely trees.
Back to the tea---over time I gradually moved from drinking tea altogether because no one in my new family liked it the way I do. Just this spring, I have begun making sun tea in a large pickle jar set out on the steps leading to our side yard. DD just cannot get enough of it.
Your photos of the yummy tea and delicious pie are so inviting and take me back to younger days.
Thank you for sharing.

I'm a northerner born and bred, but I must have a little southern blood in me somewhere because I love lime pie and sweet tea! It's my favorite drink when sitting out on my deck. I got hooked on it last summer when I found a good brand here. Yes, I know I am probably supposed to make it myself, but this makes it so easy to just buy it. Loved this post!

BJ -
I'd love to taste your pie! It looks wonderful. My mouth thinks it can almost taste it.

We west coast folks don't 'do' sweet tea. Many here drink their iced tea plain, some add sugar and others add lemon. I think it's catching on as we travel from home more and as we get to know people like you who share its wonders with us.
