A SWEET, SWEET DAY ~

Created by the American Pie Council, National Pie Day is dedicated to the celebration of pie. As part of our American heritage, this day is a perfect opportunity to pass on the love and enjoyment of pie eating and pie making to future generations.

Each year the American Pie Council sponsors the National Pie Championships where some of the best pie makers in the United States and Canada enter their pies to compete for the "American Pie Council's Best Pie in America" award.

To celebrate National Pie Day share the warmth of the ultimate "comfort food" by giving the gift of pie to a friend or neighbor. Your generosity will be long remembered.

If pie making is not in your schedule, stop by your favorite pie shop or grocery store and bring home a gift of love and enjoyment for the whole family. The coldest of January days will be warmed by a special pie dessert.

Sweet TAMMY at THE PINK MAGNOLIA shared with me that today is NATIONAL PIE DAY....How neat that we have a special day for something we all LOVE !! By the way, pop over to see TAMMY today....it's for certain SHE will share a great pie recipe with us, I'll bet. There will be LOTS of delicious pie recipes that others have linked to her blog. We are ALL in for a really SWEET TREAT today ~

Thanks so much, dear TAMMY, for giving us all the chance to have such a fun time while getting some great recipes to try.

I just made myself a hot, strong cup of coffee and am getting ready to read all the great pie recipes that are bound to be posted today.

Here is my COCONUT CREME pie that I have shared the recipe with you before, I think, but since it is just like having a slice of Heaven with each sliver I cut for myself, I just have to share it again. (SLIVER?? Did I say SLIVER???)

I might remind you that this is the 100 year old recipe that my precious, little mother*in*law (also know as my second mom) taught me back in 1960. Now, some folks might think that I love this pie so much because I loved HER so much....which, I am sure, has something to do with it. If you try the pie, would you please let me know if YOU liked it or am I just living in a dream world? I would appreciate it but nevertheless, it is ALWAYS gonna be a wonderful pie to ME! :)

"THE BESTEST COCONUT CREME PIE....EVER"

3 tablespoons of flour

3/4 cup of sugar

3 beaten egg yolks

2 cups milk

1 can of delicious coconut

**********

Make a paste with flour and a small amt. of milk. Add all other ingredients and cook until thick, over medium heat, stirring so as not to stick and burn. Add 1 capful of VANILLA and stir.

Pour into baked pie shell and cover with sweetened, beaten egg whites, sprinkled with coconut...bake in 400 degree oven until it is golden brown.

GOOD GRIEF......I am now starving to death !!!

Good Morning BJ,
Let me in and let's have some coffee again. It's too cold to be outside this morning. Your Coconut Cream Pie sounds so good. That is one of my favorite pies. I'm not a baker myself. "HAPPY NATIONAL PIE DAY". This was so fun. I am hungry now too. LOL. May be more hungry before the day is over with with all these recipes. LOL. I haven't made my pie in several years. Our girls don't like Chicken Pot Pie that much. They do eat the Beef Pot Pies from the store. I may have to play around and make a Beef Pot Pie one of these days. "THANK YOU" for sharing your pie with us. I can almost taste it now. LOL. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi BJ
My DH loves pies. Reading this has made me think it's time to make him a pie. He'll be thrilled. Your pie looks delicious, but we are not big coconut fans , so I wouldn't be a good judge of how good it is, although I am sure it is yummy.

bj, this sounds like great fun, however this is my worst subject int the kitchen, my mom makes the best pies and I cannot make pie crust to save my life. I guess I have to go get some store bought pie crust for this, but on the bright side I did see a great recipe for key lime pie last night...I wanted to stop by and tag you...stop by my blog and find out all the questions....happy pie day!!!!!

Hi BJ! Just popped over from Donna's to say Howdy! Didn't know it was national pie day so guess I need to get going and make hubby an apple pie. Made pumpkin on Monday as it was Son's birthday and that's what he wanted instead of cake. I love your site and all your black and white decorating ideas. The different pictures of the rooms made me drool too, I love the colors they used.

Come on over if you get a minute and say hello!

BJ,

Your pie sounds absolutely delicious. Thanks for the recipe. Grandma used to make the most delicious pies. Wish I could have them more often. I may just make this for hubby. He loves cocoanut cream pie and I'm going to try Diane's too.

Mary

Hi,
I just found your blog today and it is absolutely delightful. I hope you don't mind, but I copied and pasted your "Pie day" on my blog(with credit to your blog of course).
I love the pics of the rooms you show in the post below, especially the red and white one with the twin beds. My bedroom is red and white and I have the red spread on the end of the bed. I love how they mixed in the check with it. Thank you for sharing all those inspiring pics.
