The Box

Window Box, that is.

THIS is the window box Mr. Sweet
made for me back in 2011.

You can click HERE to see him making it for me. :>)
We have been in A DROUGHT ever since he made it so, not being the BEST gardener anyway, nothing has ever REALLY done very well..... For one thing.....waaay too shady....it faces NORTH.

SOOO....I wanted to plant SOMETHING in it so it would help on the
CURB APPEAL while trying to sale our olden house.

Planting on May 24th...

I've forgotten what these flowers are and it said on the pot that they could be in
PARTIAL SHADE/PARTIAL SUN....
great for color....
hope they do ok....
hope they GROW !

The helpful young man at the nursery said
SWEET POTATO VINES would be great in a shaded window box....

ya think....????

I sure HOPE so 'cause I think they make the most beautiful vines.......
I love this bright green color.

Also got some of the dark red Sweet Potato vines....
when planting for shade,
most BLOOMING plants don't do well.

I'm hoping in another month, this box will be FULL....

I can't take this loved
window box with me when we move...but...
it's just a THING.

nor the black and white awning I was  sooo proud of when I bought it....
just another THING.

nor all the black wooden shutters that Mr. Sweet made for our cottage...
THINGS...

As pretty as our NEW home is,
I am not really going to miss any of this.

I am looking forward to doing a little container gardening this summer....
I love the idea of being able to move the plants around to get enuf sun or more shade...
whatever the case may be.

BJ your window box looks lovely. I especially love the green sweet potato vine. I have them in my window boxes on my shed in the back yard. They are in the shade and are doing great. Yours seem to be doing quite well.
You may be leaving your window box awning and shutters but BJ by far you are tAking the best with you. Your precious hubby.
Keep in you in my prayers that your lovely home sells and you can get out there by the pool. Blessings,Becky

I think sweet potato vines are a good choice. They spread plus grow long but you will need to water. Hope they do well in your window boxes.

Wow it's filling in already. We had several window boxes at our last house and to be honest none of them worked very well. I think it's really hard to control the moisture and the light.

BJ I think that yellow flower plant is called "Tickseed" as I planted ones just like it in my yard. It is a perennial and supposedly the deer and rabbits here don't like to eat it, which is why I planted it.

Did you sell your house? best wishes for health and happiness in your new one!

A very pretty window box. Are you going to leave it that way because then you could take the plants with you!

True, it takes so little to make one happy. Great shots! I feel happy looking at them.

Your window box looks very pretty BJ! Glad to see the potato vines filling in so nicely for you:@)

Shady spots can be so problematic! I think the box looks great though and those sweet potato vines should fill everything out nicely.
Are you spending time at the new house putting things where they belong and figuring out your decorating?

That is so pretty. The thing I missed most about our old house was my Shasta Daisey's. But - this year I finally got the ones I planted last year to multiply and bloom. Now I have new ones. And I like everything else about this house so much more.

Your window box looks very pretty. A good plant to plant in shady places is the impatient ( not sure I spelled it right) I have them and they do very well. Have a blessed day. Madeline

BJ, I just love this. I'm so sorry you can't take it with you, but think of the joy it will provide to the new owners of your wonderful home.

Sending you much love and prayers for the sale of your house.

XO,

Sheila

I really love your attitude about the move...I hope that is how I feel when I have to get rid of many things when we move in the next year or so. I'm okay getting rid of anything we bought...I'm not okay with family furniture/glassware pieces and most won't look okay in Florida, so I have no idea what we will do. We are just starting to think about it. As you said, things...I do love that window box though!

Great color combination, BJ, sweet potato vines are one of my favs.

Love your window box, but I bet Mr. Sweet will make you another one if you need it. Love potato vine, but so do the deer. Mine is purple ... coming back from last year and looking good.
Hoping the best for you and you can get moved soon.
Hugs,

You did a great job on the window box and your sweet potato vines will do wonderfully.
When I was very young, I learn that I could lay a sweet potato in an old ice cube tray and put it high on a shelf over my kitchen sink..and soon I would have vines growning all over the place. AND it did cost me anything since I got the potato from Mom. Not sure where the old trays came from.
So..if they grew like crazy inside my home up high..they are going to really love your shaded window box.
It all looks so pretty.
No takers yet?? DANG!

We put sweet potato vine in our window box one year, and it was unbelievable. Wow! I constantly had to cut it back because it was making its way all the way across our deck.
