A new casserole.....

Hi, Everyone...
Hope all is well in your world.
Mine couldn't be better....well, unless a young couple breezed thru
THIS OLD HOUSE and said, "We'll take it !!"

Gert, that is the owner and operator of
GERT,  TOM & RUSTY, TOO blog,
gave us the recipe for a casserole that I just had to try.
We dearly LOVE cabbage...and this recipe has CABBAGE in it.

She calls it RUNZA CASSEROLE
and here's her recipe.

That great photo on the left belongs to
GERT.

See, not only can she cook...
she also takes awesome photos.

I told Gert that my Aunt Lillian's
middle name was
Gertrude and everyone called her
GERT.

Needless to say, every time I visit Gert, I think of my Aunt Lillian.

I sure would rather have my
Aunt Lillian than this ole casserole....
but,
IT LOOKS SOOO GOOD.

I followed her recipe MOSTLY...
but did ADD a few things for a STRONGER flavor...

Grease a 9x13 dish and add a tube of CRESCENT ROLLS....

Cabbage, onions, Anaheim peppers, lightly fried in a tad of olive oil, salted and peppered.

2 lbs hamburger meat, fried and drained.
Here, I added
LAWRY'S Seasoned Salt
Cracked Black Pepper
Sea Salt

Mix all ingredients together and simmer for about 15 minutes...

Spoon the mixture over the crescent roll crust...

O, I do love crescent rolls so much, I want to marry 'em....

I added a GENEROUS amount of
EXTRA SHARP CHEDDAR CHEESE to our casserole.
We like
CHEDDAR
SHARP CHEDDAR
and EXTRA SHARP CHEDDAR even more. :)

After adding the 2nd can of CRESCANT ROLLS to cover the entire WORK OF ART...

slide this baby into a 350 preheated oven for about 30 minutes...
or until the top crust is golden and the casserole is bubbly.

I am thinking, next time....and there  WILL BE a next time, I might drizzle the top crust with
BUTTAH...

Here 'tis....
   straight out of the oven.

 What a beautiful casserole...

I hope it's half as good as it looks...:))

I guess thick sliced tomatoes go with EVERYthing, hu?

We loooove green beans...
seasoned with a touch of olive oil, cracked black pepper and sea salt...
simmer for a few minutes and, BOY, they are great.

See that flaky "crust" and creamy cheese...
all mixed with onions, peppers, cabbage....
OhMyGoodness

This is a very tasty casserole...
since Mr. Sweet and I like STRONG flavors,
I added things that wasn't in
  the original recipe of GERT'S.
..extra onions
...Anaheim peppers
....Lawry Seasoned Salt
...Extra Sharp Cheddar
...and maybe some other spices. :)

It's another recipe that you can add YOUR favorite spices
to make it one of your favorite casseroles.

I love these kind of recipes....when we add the things our family loves best,
it's ALWAYS a winner.

I made this Strawberry Angle Food cake a few weeks ago and
IT STUCK TO THE PAN...
just tore all to pieces
so I put it in a freezer ZipLock bag and we have enjoyed it so much...
One night, we poured hot fudge over some and thought we'd
DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN....
so, if your cake sticks and tears up...
SAVE IT.....and create something awesome.

Love the idea of this casserole. It reminds me of German Berokes, which I make occasionally; but the casserole seems to be much easier. I'm all about easy these days, so I'm going to try it!!! Are you cooking in your new kitchen, yet? Sally

Thanks for sharing your Aunties recipe. I think the same thing of my grandma. I love all her recipes but I'd rather have her here instead of her recipes. Maybe I'll make her banana cake for dessert. Enjoy your week!

This cabbage casserole looks absolutely delicious. I like the way you change up recipes a bit to suit you and your husband's tastes. Now I am going to head into the kitchen and snack on some of the leftover cabbage from our St. Patrick's Day dinner.

I love cabbage, and I love cheese (the more extra cheese and extra sharp it is, the better) I think this would be a huge hit with me.
