My All-Time Favorite Movie House

Hi, Everybody...
I daydream about this MOVIE HOUSE a lot...
From it's cream colored walls to it's huge windows...
to it's blue and cream rug....
and a KITCHEN that is so OVER THE MOON, I can't stand it.

I have posted on this lovely house a couple of times in the past
and was just thinking about it today so decided to show you some of
the rooms I love best in this BEACH HOUSE.

I realize that there are MANY of you out there that love this house just as much as I do....
Pray tell.....what is NOT to like ?

"SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE"
with DIANE KEATON and JACK NICHOLSON
(I just love them both)
but it was this MAGNIFICENT house that stole the show.
I love the neutral color scheme....
the walls appear to be a HEAVY cream with snow white trim....
And, notice all her furniture is DARK.
Such a nice contrast between the cream/white and the dark furniture.....
it creates WARMTH in a neutral setting that is so pretty to me.
Even her floors are dark.

I love the fact that they didn't spread color all over the place with pillows and curtains....
I think that would have destroyed the beauty of this house......
but, that's just me.
The number of chairs scattered throughout this room offers up COMFORT,
visually as well as literally.

Can you even imagine having a desk facing THE OCEAN....???
meee, either.
**********************************************************************
the KITCHEN

A double sink AND an APRON sink....
the nerve !!
She had FRESH FLOWERS all over this beautiful place.
.....dark counter tops...and  dark pulls on the drawers.
He's wearing a DARK robe.....her's is CREAM....hmmmm
they BOTH match the kitchen..
White pants....cream top.....matches her cabinets and her curtains....hmmmm
Son and daughter in law have this same WOLF stove..
it's the most AWESOME stove, ever.
I can see that if they were wearing ANYTHING else that didn't MATCH THAT AWESOME KITCHEN,
it would ruin THE EFFECT.
I am about to have a hissy fit for that WHITE SUBWAY TILE and I THINK this is what
daughter put in her new kitchen.
No, wait, she was THINKING of putting it there but used something else.....
(CREAM colored robe but a WHITE tee under it..) hmmmm

....did I mention I love
 ALL THOSE FREAKIN' WINDOWS ?
And having all those sets of FRENCH DOORS doesn't hurt the picture, either. :)
flowers......
I could just about
 EAT THAT BEAUTIFUL RUG !!!

Lighting is so important in the looks and function of a room..

The lamps played a huge part of the beauty of these rooms.
...table lamps, floor lamps, wall lamps, hanging lamps...
I love lamps....and hate overhead lighting.
I think one can never have too many lamps....
and note that all her shades are plain, classic and the same color.

No frills...
no fads...
just awesome and classic ALL THE WAY.

Well, it's a good thing we are moving because I am wanting to throw out
ALL color....my walls will be cream with white trim...
I can't change out all our furniture but.....
I SURELY CAN DREAM.....
how 'bout you ??

Oh, and if you haven't seen this cute movie, by all means DO.
It's a wonderful movie with plenty of EYE CANDY......

Great colors and so comfortable.

It certainly is lovely...a bit bland for my tastes, though. Have never seen this movie and now am thinking that it's one that must be ordered up on Netflix soon. Thanks for the review of the house. I'm so old-fashioned that my favorite house in a movie is from Little Women. Ha!

Oh, I love that kitchen, too. I would love to have a Wolf stove, too. Or a Viking. But I love love love the vintage o'Keefe and Merritt stove my DH bought me. My vintage stove, a vintage fridge and all those wonderful cabinets! My dream! Only I would have to have red and green mixed in there.

I have watched the movie a few times, but never all the way through. No matter what, I would get interrupted! Now I want to sit and watch it!

Dang.. I have never seen that movie. Tomorrow I will watch it!!!! That house is gorgeous. My favorite movie house is the home alone house... although the decor is from the 80's, I still love it.

Thanks for that tour - like you, I loved that house.

It's my favorite house, too! I copied the entrance...in my foyer with something similar. Love the soft colors in that house! Hugs!

This is my favorite movie house too! I love this movie. It's one the few DVDs I ever bought myself. Think I'll go watch it again tonight!

This movie and You Got Mail are my two favorite movies. I can't tell you how much I have watched them. I just watched Somethings Gotta Give over the weekend, but I am not sure if I still watch it for the movie or to check out the beach house. I love the creams and whites in the house. If I had a beach house this would be it. Like that is ever going to happen. My office/foofoo room is in creams and the softness makes me feel relaxed. Thanks for sharing Humble Abode

Love that movie and love the house even more, a beach house would be wonderful. Our bedroom is in cream with white, love it. My mother dislikes it says their is no colour so blah. You can never win. Loved that post, enjoyed every room, in fact going back to restudy. God bless.

It's so funny that you posted on this...I just pulled it out of our video cabinet and watched it the other night. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this house! And Diane Keaton always looks so classic and amazing. Cute movie. My favorite space is the library area and her writing area.

I haven't seen the movie but now will have to get it out and watch - even if it's just to admire the decor.

Okay...I thought I was the only crazy person who studied this house to such an extent....it's good to know I have company. Just last week I pulled it up because we were rearranging lamps and deciding on new lamps and I wanted to see what the decorator had done in this house! Not only are the shades all the same color and classic in styling, but I was surprised to see that the lamps themselves were dark throughout, much as the wood furniture. I, too, want to live in this house, or at least re-create its decor! What fun to visit it again with your observations! ~Zuni

I'd have to say this is one of my favourite movie houses, too. Longbourne from the BBC version of P & P is another favourite.

Teresa said...

For me it's the books that did it... I keep dreaming with them ahahah

A favorite too... but all Diane's and Jack's are. Dreams, dreams, Dear Friend! What would be of any of us without them?!

Thank you for bringing this... I'm craving walking through that home with thick socks. Don't you think they're mandatory in that house?

Love,
T

I can't believe that I haven't seen that movie because I like her in everything else she's ever done.

I am with you with all the creams and whites. I had so much color (dark color!) on my walls in the 90s, and it has taken me years to start lightening it up. Room by room, I've been trying. My "go to" color as yet has been light shades of yellow instead of cream. That IS a beautiful house.

Absolutely beautiful! I'm always checking out the background and decor on movies etc... This kitchen is my dream kitchen! And all those books! LOVE!

I have seen this movie several times. One of my favorites! Every time you see it, you realize there is something in the house you haven't seen before. I had the same thought about the desk on front of the window looking out to the ocean. Can you imagine???

Would you believe, I have never watched this film? Even when so many ladies just love it, for the HOUSE decor?

OK, must put it on my List. Of dvd's to rent, just to look at the home decor.

I've already crossed the original "Father Of The Bride" and "Mrs. Minniver" off my list, with library rentals. Have another couple from the library. Then I will have to "break down" and get NetFlix again. ,-)

It will be very interesting, to see if you really end up going for an all-forms-of-white, and some dark, without color, in your new home. I often think it is so coooool, but lose interest in it quickly. But that's just me.

You go Girl! To your dreams!!!

I love that house, TOO!!! Sometimes I watch it just to see the house again!

I also love the one in 'It's Complicated.'

That is a lovely home! To have all those windows, and a view of the sea!!! I hope you can incorporate lots of your great ideas into your new home. Do you know yet when you will be moving?

I've always thought that if I ever go through the process of building a new home, I'd sit down with my architect and watch this movie to inspire him. I could so live here...of course, when I visited the Biltmore Estate last month, I decided that I could live there, too. :-). Cherry Kay

I LOVE this house. I have watched the movie a thousand times and it is not just because it is a good movie...it is mostly so I can fixate over the house. I would marry this house in a heartbeat. Thanks for the revisit. Now I'm off to get a towel to wipe up the drool.

Our Neck of the Woods said...

I thought I was the only one! Haha. I don't remember much of the movie because I was too busy drooling over the house. The kitchen is INSANE!

Another one of my favorites is the kitchen from "It's Complicated." It's so cozy and homey. I love it!

Yes, I loved this house and the movie! I also loved It's Complicated for the house and the movie. How fun that you are starting to choose your colors BJ...

I do love this house, are you thnking of going in a new direction in the new place? I have always LOVED your style, could you REALLY be happy without the color? I have been painting the walls white for the first time in 30 years, still plenty of color in everything else, and it seems so ight and fresh and new. The family is scandalized. Seriously!
Whatever you do in the new place it will beautiful, I know that. Imagine, a chance to start over and reinvent your home! What will you do?

I'm with you on this house - lovely. We've had our home repainted to lighten everything up. The walls are a lighter beige and all trim white including the kitchen cabinets. Next I will have the sofa slipcovered in off-white. Once you start, there's no place to stop. Lighter and brighter.

Now I can't quit thinking about this house.

Kathie Truitt said...

Oh yes..there is nothing NOT to love about that house. And I just love Diane Keaton. She is always criticized in the magazines about here crazy outfits but i love those, too. I guess that means I have questionable taste as well.

Love that house. Thanks for pointing out the details that pull it off and make us love it. I always think I need lots of color in my life but the cream and white really make it so classic. I think I could love that house even in the dark dreary winter. You are right about the lamps, lots of lamps make it soft and pretty.
