Baby....it's cold outside

Hi, Everyone... Well, what do ya know.....we had another tiny little snow early this morning...
as you can see, it is very light....but nice, just the same.

Our patio didn't even get snow....just a dusting on top of the table and chairs....

(I took this photo thru the glass french doors and I see
BILL HEMMER of FOX NEWS reflected in the glass.
...what a hoot
I have learned that I associate weather with FOOD....
No kidding....as soon as I looked out and saw snow, I got hungry for a HUMONGOUS breakfast....
which, by the way, is by far my favorite meal of the entire day.
Cheesy Scrambled Eggs
Fruit
Cinnamon Sour Cream Pancakes
Plum jelly....I often like jelly on my pancakes instead of syrup....like PEANUT BUTTER on them, too.:))

HOLY COW...if we have a big snow blizzard like in parts of the country...
I'll end up weighing 400 lbs.:))
* * *

Since I had to do errands most of the day, and it never reached over 34 degrees all day,
I donned a warm hat...
my EXTRA warm coat, a scarf and warm gloves....and boots on my feet.

Grocery store.....Walmart.....computer doctor......
drug store......thrift store ( or two ?).....cleaners....

and it spit snow and sleet on me most of the time I was out...

OOO.....I loved every minute of the
whole, beautiful day....

One thing I had to purchase....a couple of 2013 calendars...
The one I picked for my desk.....PINUPS.
hahhhaaa...don't ask me WHY I have always loved PINUP PICTURES....but I have....
maybe because I sooo remember how beautiful pinup queen, BETTY GRABLE was and I always just loved her.

I think I saw ALL of her movies....and the movie studio had her awesome legs INSURED for
ONE MILLION DOLLARS (with Lloyds of London) and I thought that was about the coolest thing.

Betty Grable's 40 films grossed over $100 million at the box office and she was the highest-paid Hollywood celebrity between 1943 and 1951.

*sigh....she had SUCH a fan in me.

OK, back to the calendars...I always get mine at
BIG LOTS and today, they had SUSAN BRANCH
calendars for $8.00....I couldn't EVEN believe it.
Just look at that beautiful fire in the Franklin Wood Burner....
Mr. Sweet had it going full blast by the time I got home.

While shopping at BIG LOTS, I bought this
JAMAICAN RUM CAKE
and may I just say right here and now.....
IT  IS  AWESOME....I mean it....
Plenty of rum used to create a wonderful taste...
so moist....
I am going back tomorrow and buy all they have....
well, unless they have a whole TRUCK load in the back...:)
they will freeze wonderfully.

I couldn't WAIT to have another piece with  a cup  of
IRISH BREAKFAST TEA...

If you visit a BIG LOTS store, be sure to search out their food department....
if you're LUCKY....you may find a JAMAICAN RUM CAKE....buy it....or 2....or 3.

A warm and comforting fire built JUST FOR YOU  by a sweet MR. SWEET...

Slices of a delicious cake that we didn't even have to bake...

a cup or two of hot and sweet
TEA

is just the PERFECT way to end a cold but totally refreshing day.

Blessings to everyone....
STAY WARM
and above all. STAY HAPPY.

Ya'll, this is going to be a FANTASTIC YEAR...
I just KNOW it.

ADDED NOTE OF INTEREST....:)

" BJ (aka "Rain Gauge Gal")~

Thank you so much for telling us about Big Lots and the rum cakes and Susan Branch's calendar.
Because of it, I now have a cake to fill in as King's Cake for tomorrow's Epiphany dinner and I have
a SB calendar, too. So it was DARE all over the place today because there were such good things to
get out of the house for.

Have a super evening...
Emoji Vee

Thanks, Vee, for letting me know you found these at your Big Lots...
would you kindly let me know if you like the Rum Cake ?
I KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you will LOVE the SB calendar. :))

Thank goodness it wasn't some sort of Fox News apparition in your backyard like I first thought. I was sitting here minding my own business, not thinking about food at all and now all I can think of is cake.

On the occasion that I go into Big Lots I never think about their food section - must do that, the cake looks delicious. I love your blog, it's always "refreshing"!

Stay warm, BJ! If you lived here, with all the snow & the cold we had yesterday, you'd still be baking up a storm right now! lol

You look so cute in your winter gear! Sounds like a fun day..kind of like mine today! Except it wasn't cold here...just chilly! I would have gotten the S. Branch calendar, too! What a buy! Stay bundled up!

How I love your winter gear, plus the rum cake sounds delicious. The fire in your franklin stove is wonderful. It has been cold here and I have stayed indoors embroidering my pillow cases. Have a blessed evening. Madeline

Hi bj ... we had a sprinkling of snow and sleet and it has been cold all day. Light rain too. I did not venture out other than feed the birds and gathered up stuff for Mr.Z. to take to City Recycle. Would rather have dressed warm like you (so cute) and gone to the Thrifts and BigLots and bought Rum cake. Looks good, will look for it and fill my freezer. You have made me hungry. THANKS!
Hugs,

Hi bj, I laughed when I saw the reflection of Fox news. I tried to take photos of our Christmas wreath and I was the reflection in the photo. I was still in my pj's and I hadn't even combed my hair. No way I shared that photo. HA!

Love the thought of food when it is cold as well. I fight putting on weight in the winter. Too much sitting and baked goods. Cooking and baking is more fun when it is cold. Stay warm bj and eat a piece of rum cake for me. I do not drink sweet tea, just sweet coffee. Not very sweet though.

Your fire in the Franklin stove looks so warm. Our fireplace is more for looks and ambiance than warmth. It is gas and there is a regulated maximum as to how hot it can be. Who knew??? It will warm the great room with the blower going.

Have a great weekend.
Love you much,
Jeanne

What a cozy post!! We didn't even get the flurries they had in the forecast! I heard the weatherman say tonight that there are plenty of snowflakes up there above us - or at least there WAS! - but the air is just too dry!

Glad you enjoy a dusting!
Big LOTS!! I love that store and will go in search of that cake tomorrow. I forget the stores here now that we're gone so much of the time.

By the way - YOU, my dear, are ADORABLE!!! Cute! CUTE!! CUTE!!!

Oh, a hot cup of tea is just what I love when it is cold outside. I use to have tea time with my sister and we would sit and talk for hours of course we would make more tea. Miss those days with her. I am raising my cup of tea to you for venturing out in the cold. I don't blame you for stopping at a thrift store or two...did you get some goodies there? Thanks for sharing Humble Abode

Oh- You look so danged cute all bundled up to go THRIFTING....you can pretend you are going for groceries, etc. but we all know you are really hitting the thrift shops...just like the mailman- neither rain nor snow nor dark of day shall prevent bj from her appointed "rounds".

Your pinup girls calendar looks so cute. The pinup girl pictures have such a fun vibe to them. I got three varieties of Susan Branch Calendars at Big Lots a few months ago. Susan Branch's art and writings are wonderful. I love the way the big calendar January page looks in my kitchen.
I call the type of snow you had today Decorator Snow. I like a little snow, if it goes ahead and melts off the roads. That rum cake sounds good. Looks like a trip to Big Lots is in order again. When I read Jamaican Rum cake and Breakfast Tea, I was thinking, Mmmm! Breakfast of Champions. And then I realized that you had it that evening--Mmmm! Bedtime snack of Champions!

I love the incredible hovering Hemmer! You should send that to his show. It's a hoot.

I like to eat my way through the seasons too, and just like you I hope I'm never stuck in a blizzard for too long. I would be as big as a house.

I haven't even purchased a calendar yet. I should head out to Big Lots.

Vee said...

Okay, I am off to see what I can find at Big Lots...usually nothing. But you never know. You are as cute as a button all dressed up so nice and warm. You made me laugh with your 400 pound comment. It may actually explain a lot!

Ohhhh what a gorgeous fire! And gorgeous photo of it!!!

Know that very, very, very famous pic of Betty Grable? One you show. One which was pinned up on most every G.I.'s wall? One with her coyly looking over her shoulder at the camera?

They took that photo, that way, because she was pregnant and showing a bit, in front!!!!!!!!! Did you know that? I love it!

Oh, I hope you're right about the new year. We could use a good one about now! Looks like you had a great day today! I'll look for the cake at BL. You asked about the snow flakes on my blog....I didn't make them. The mother of a lady who worked with me made them and sold for a dollar each. She did that every year, so I always bought some.

Have a fabulous Sunday!

BJ,
Thanks for posting about Big Lots Rum Cake, might just have to try it. I started frequenting our BL about a year ago and love to check out their food section, you can find the most unusual foods there, when I find something that we really like, I normally purchase all or just about all that they have. The girls at the check-out just laugh. But hey, I know the next time I go in they might not have it so I store what I can.
Love the calendar that you picked too and your breakfast looks so yummy!

Judi said...

hi BJ *hugs*
Well I am glad you are enjoying the snow you are getting...we have been lucky not to have much more than that so far this year...welll we do have a bit more.

Your fireplace looks very inviting...and so does the idea of rum cake and tea! Yum. That will warm you up..

Great deal on the calendars too...

have a great day

Well, you look all cozy and warm! I never buy calendars,I am too cheap, or if I do, I wait till March when they mark them down Our drugstore gives out very nice Norman Rockwell cals. and Betty Crocker always sends me a nice one full of delicious pics...
I don't have as much optimism as you, worried about all the new taxes we are getting hit with! :(
Have a good week, BJ!
