After all that RICH foods.....

Hello, Bloggers and Lurkers and all our other Friends...
After all the RICH foods of the Season,
Mr. Sweet and I crave a pot of VEGGIE SOUP and CORNBREAD......
THIS veggie soup was made with just what was in the pantry and fridge....
I was NOT in the mood to hit the grocery store AGAIN this week.
Our cornbread here at Sweet Nothings is SOUTHERN cornbread...NO SUGAR....
Now, Mr. Sweet sure would rather have it WITHOUT sugar....
I can go both ways.
While I like sweet cornbread, too, I really prefer NO SUGAR. If anyone is interested, the recipe is under my header marked RECIPES ...(DUH) :))

Altho we much prefer FRESH VEGGIES, I had NONE...NADA...NOT EVEN ONE.
Sooo....
Canned and frozen veggies...
here we have English Peas and Corn,
a small baked potato cut up and added...
BEEF BROTH...never water..well, water with a bullion cube works...:)
onions, a few pieces of ANAHEIM pepper, celery, including the flavorful GREEN leaves,
all sauteed until tender...
then added to the pot.
A shake or two of a steak sauce..
then the best part....FIRE ROASTED TOMATOES..
I love to cook with these and keep several cans in my pantry.
Salt and pepper to taste and let simmer awhile before eating.
and, may I say here that the soup will be even better the next day,
so make a nice, big pot.
My desk top bit the dirt 2 days ago and all my birthday photos are on it....NOT on my laptop, tho.
When things get FIXED, I'll tell you about my wonderful 75th birthday party.....:))

It must be a trend! We have chicken corn chowder on our menu tonight - just as we did last night! We hit up Sam's for all things paper - toilet paper, paper towels and tissue - plus milk and meds. I just can't handle any more grocery shopping - nor can my budget!!

We will be patiently waiting for those birthday pics!

Sounds delicious! We just had 15 bean soup with some ham that was left over. We also had skillet cornbread with NO sugar. :)

Tomorrow I'm making stew. I'm with you...no stores!

I will take my cornbread without the sugar with a big glass of sweet milk. Sometimes that is all I have a night. I crumble the bread into my milk. O'so good!

Your soup and cornbread look soooo good! I like unsweetened the best, but can go either way. I made posole today, a soup of sorts that is popular here in New Mexico. Have a blessed and happy New Year...hugs, Penny

Hi bj, We love a good pot of veggie soup. Your soup sounds and looks like great soup. We like sweet cornbread and we call it Johnny cake where I come from. Yep, we are damn Yankees who grew up in the South. Yikes.

I'm sorry about your computer. That is a nightmare to me.I hope all is fixed soon. I have wanted to post about our trip but I haven't found the time with the holiday celebrations since we arrived home. I'm waiting for calm and quiet.

I know you had a great 75th birthday celebration with your darling family. Congratulations.

We are watching our Gators get beat. Sad!!!
Love,
Jeanne

Thank you for sharing,

LOVE your opening line of: "Hello, Bloggers and Lurkers and all our other Friends..." Oh wow do I love it! I may just have to *grab* it! -giggggles-

I try not to let those over-and-over-and-over-again-lurkers "bug" me, but.... -Hehhhhhhhh- Use that line and let 'em know, I AM keeping an eye on them! In my Stats Place. -hehhhh-

Ahhh yes, the time of year for swearing off all the excess of Holiday Goodies! :-)

For those who ate 'em, that is.

Around here, I don't. And I don't let him do much of it either. -gigggles-

But who among us, could not try for healthier eating? No one. We all need healthier eating and less of the amounts, and etc.

Hey, this is the first such post (which I remember anyway) on this usual Jan. Theme. *REFORM!!!* -giggggles-

Your veggie soup looks so good and I bought a can of fire roasted tomatoes today for our next pot of soup. I cooked red beans with the ham hock and cornbread. Tasty and get several meals out of one pot of beans.

Looking forward to your hearing about Birthday celebration. Hope you did not loose all your pictures.
Hugs,
