...copy cat..copy cat......CO.P.CAT

Hi, Friends...
I don't know if there is a soul on the planet that gets such a kick out of

COPY CATTING
as I do.

Nothing pleases me more than to find a certain something for a MUCH lower price, that LOOKS like what I
fell in love with....because the things I tend to fall in love with are ALWAYS so dang expensive....
CHAMPAGNE taste on a BEER budget.....
MACKENZIE*CHILDS
tablecloth
and
topper...
TO. DIE. FOR.
if, like me, you LUV black checks with a touch of red.
TABLECLOTH..90'' diam.
$395.00
THE Topper, 54" sq. is $295.00

FOLKS...do the math.

$690.00 plus shipping and handling....
HOLY COW  !!
THAT'S CRAZY.
WELL, LOOKEE HERE....
in my COPY CAT WAY, I found THIS....
at GRANDIN ROAD

THIS photo is from their catalog....
isn't this just beautiful !!

In fact, I am liking it MORE than the MC version.
I really, really DO.

Tablecloth, 90" dia.
$103.00
Table Topper, 54" sq.
$31.20
FREE SHIPPING AND HANDLING.
for a grand total of
$134.20
 Exact same size.....
AWESOME, I tell ya....
I ordered it right away and it should be here SOON...

O, there's no doubt that the MACKENZIE*CHILDS
set is much nicer fabric...and more elaborate, with the extra band of checks...

but FOR THE MONEY,
I am thrilled......

AND I can't wait to
COPY CAT this adorable
Mackenzie*Childs
CHRISTMAS TABLE

...and I fell MORE in love with this cutie that resembles
the MUCH more expensive original....
O YES...I AM SOOO EXCITED ♥
*************************************************************************
 UH OOOOOOOO
...FROM HERE ON, it's all a different story.
Yes, my beauty arrived,
I tore the box open so fast, my hands were a BLUR...I nearly slung my rings off....
I was coughing and choking and am pretty sure I passed a little gas...
sooo excited....
Out came the RED topper, trimmed in BLACK and it
was beautiful.....
THEN, to the TABLECLOTH...
OOO NOOOO
NOT black and WHITE, like the catalog described
and on their
web page...
but black and GRAY !
GRAY....???
WHAT THE HECK.....
it looked SNOW WHITE on their web page.
and the description of it.....black and WHITE.
Of course, I HAD to play around with it anyway...
GRAY....???? DANG IT

I don't have a small Santa...so I used my little
COOKING ANGEL with her adorable striped dress and
take a look at those shoes.:_
AND, I'm not even gonna TELL you how much that MC Santa costs.
OK OK....I'll tell ya that it's 18" high and costs $195.00
WHEW....
now, even if I won that MEGA POWERBALL lotto,
no way would I spend money like that.
Well, it IS so stinkin' cute, I MIGHT buy him....:)

I actually ordered this set for my tiny 4' CHRISTMAS TREE
to set on...

I also don't have the right size table for this 90" cloth so I am using my tall bistro table for these photos...

BEFORE I SEND THE WHOLE SET BACK....

The cloth is made very well...
weighted somewhat on the bottom so that it hangs so pretty.

but.....GRAY....??

Thanks for coming by to look at my silly copy-cat ways.
It all COULD have worked out better...
and now, of course, I am BESIDE myself to find a
black and WHITE cloth...
bet it "ain't gonna happen" tho..

O WELL...at least I had fun doing a COPY CAT with it all.
It is now on it's way back to GRANDIN ROAD...which, by the way,
were VERY nice about it all. They, too, were shocked that the WHITE
wasn't white at all....

You did an amazing copy cat!! Wow, it's just like it, almost to perfection for a fraction of the MC one, incredible! Congrats hon, I'd be delighted too! Happy holidays.

You are so funny! So sorry your copy cat item didn't workout, but your excitement really made me laugh - especially about passing gas. I'm embarrassed to say that has happened to me all too often. It just sneaks out with no control. One of the hazards of aging, I guess. Keep looking for your perfect copy cat ensemble. Who knows, you might find it on sale somewhere. And then you can write about it all over again! Happy searching!

Great copy cat, BJ! I love black and white, too. It's weird, but it looks white in the pictures viewed on my laptop. Hopefully you will find just the right thing. Maybe Home Goods or one of those stores will come through for you.

I love it when I find things much cheaper. I have champagne taste on a beer pocketbook, too. I actually like the second one better, even if it did turn out to be gray. It actually doesn't look all that gray in the photos. Still, very cute.

Too funny~ I wish you the best of luck on your search for a black and white table cloth. I know you will find it!
Your copy cat ways are awesome! I can't wait to see what you do next!

Carlene @ Organized Clutter said...

LOVE it, BJ. The red with the black checks is perfect for the holidays.

What a shame! It was so pretty to. I hope you fine what your looking for. What about just buying fabric and making it.
You do have a knack for copycatting. Your always look like or better then the original one.

Linda @ A La Carte said...

BJ it looks so pretty even in the photos your took, but GRAY??? I'm so sad for you. Still you did a really cute copy cat!
Big Hugs, Linda

You know...it's things like this that make me plain crazy! I think..not sure but I sort of imagine that McKinsie Childs has a monopoly on black and which buffalo check. WHY did they advertise it as GRAY. Can you call the company??? How disappointing. I was all set to try and copy you..why in the world did they DO such a thing! I think I am as "ticked" as you are!
CALL them..see what they have to say! Grrrrrr

Wsprsweetly Of Cottages said...

Never mind..I am always off and running..all steamed before I got to the part where you sent it back. Are all of them GRAY I wonder? Strange!

Denise said...

OOh! I agree! I like the contrast better on the one you found and I'm into M.C. and all black with whites and a dash of color too.

Patti @ Pandoras Box said...

Well...at least you had fun "playing" with it - and it did look pretty! Walmart, HobbyLobby and Joanne's have black and white checked fabric (and you can add some paint to the white checks to "shade" it like M-C) I went to Aurora yesterday - drool, drool, drool - I was in Heaven in the Farmhouse, it was so pretty for Christmas - It almost makes me sick to look at the price tags. It was fun anyway - will posts pics soon

What a shame, darlin'. To tell you the truth I didn't know who the check MC was until my Neiman's catalogue came this year. As you can tell, I'm just not all that hip.

I put a little white twin sheet around the little bitty tree in the front window. I think it looks pretty nice. We put the tree skirt from the biggo tree, which we did not put up this year, around the little 4' one on the fireplace. Our kids aren't coming this year, so we downsized and it is so nice not to have to worry about much of the hassle Christmas can become. Kids are getting a gift card and some money. I plan to send it all in three mailers.

Anyway, unless you buy some fabric and make the tablecloth, I don't know where you might find a true black and white tablecloth.

Merry Christmas, Bj and a wish for a Very Happy New Year to you and yours. :)

I think you are the QUEEN of copy cats, nobody does it better:) Love the look! Have a blessed Sunday dear BJ, HUGS!

The prices these hoity toity (sp?) places have is not only unbelievable, it makes me a little nauseous! For a tablecloth!! That poor folks in China or wherever are getting paid pennies to sew up!! And there are people all over without homes right now due to weather, job loss.... I can't I just can't. Glad you found a knock off for cheaper but I am shaking my head! xo

Beth said...

Awesome job of copycatting. Too bad the checks are black and grey instead of white.

Madeline's Album said...

Sorry your table cloth was the wrong color but so glad the store took it back. It does look black and white to me in your photos. Knowing you you will find the right color. Have a blessed day. Madeline

WOW!! I Love your copycat!!

Kathleen Grace said...

Wow,I love your copycat, I can't really tell it's gray in the photos, but of course you could being right there. The price for the MC tablecloth is ludicrous! I love their designs but their prices are from another planet.

Sandy said...

That's too bad.. sorry it was not what you wanted.. but I liked what you ordered better than the first one anyway...

Oh- How disappointing, bj. I love the look of it, too. You could probably find some of that same fabric somewhere and find someone to sew it for you even cheaper than that. I bet you can!!!! xo Diana

Vee said...

It's not reading so gray on my computer screen... Ahhh what might have been. Hope that you find something perfectly to your liking for an even better price.

Hi Shelia
Well thats not darn nice is it...saying its white when its clearly gray I do like the one in McKenzie's Child but the price is out of my budget for sure...hmm...well...keep looking you may find what you're looking for somewhere. Did you look in a fabric store?

Hi BJness! Oh, your copy cat looks marvelous. Really it doesn't look so gray on the puter. It looks great to me!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

I was going to order that tablecloth too. But now I won't. I did get the ornaments that were pictured on the tree that had all that with it in the catalog. And I love them. Stop by and I will post them in a couple days!Stopby anyways and see the new dishes I got!

It is a great story :) The catalog pic sure is pretty and I'm with some of the other comments, that the second pic is nicer. Good luck with the hunting.

I always LOVE your 'Copy Cat' ways!!
I heard a saying once that continues to ring in my ears to this day.....
"I try never to WANT anything I can't HAVE!!" I like how you get what you want in a version that lets you HAVE it!! And good for you in sending it back!

Wow, that is an amazing copycat! I think I like it even more than the pricier version, too. What a steal in comparison! Can't believe it's that expensive.

I love the first photo of the actual copycats :) Very cute.

You did a great job with the copy cat thing, but gray? That's crazy. Who would want black and GRAY? That should be a leftover clearance item. *lol*

You are funny! That's quite a story! Too bad the one you ordered disappointed you. I think I would've kept it anyway because it's very attractive and the details are great.
It is nuts what MC asks for their things. I'm in love with their stuff but not their prices!
