MEAT LOAF

 Hi, Everyone,
Did any of ya'll like MEAT LOAF, the hard  metal rock singer?
I honestly don't think I've heard one single song of his...
I was never into heavy rock...
by the time Meat Loaf became a popular singer in 1967,
I had a little baby boy, 3 yrs old, and just didn't listen that much to music.
...especially THAT kind of music.

My brother, KEITH, is 9 1/2 yrs younger than me (bummer)
and he listened to Meat Loaf a little, I think.

Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday, September 27, 1947), known by his stage name Meat Loaf, is an American hard rock musician  and actor.
His recording of Bat Bat Out of Hell  has sold more than 43 million copies worldwide.
After 35 years, it still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually and stayed on the charts for over nine years, making it one of the best selling albums of all time

Meat Loaf relates a story in his autobiography, TO HELL AND BACK, about how he, a friend, and his friend's father drove out to Love Field to watch John F. Kennedy land. After watching him leave the airport, they went to Market Hall, which was on Kennedy's parade route. On the way they heard that Kennedy had been shot, so they headed to Parkland Hospital, where they saw JACKIE KENNEDY get out of the car and Governor John Connally get pulled out, although they never saw the president taken out.
*
After attending college at Lubbock Christian College, he transferred to North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas in Denton).
Lubbock Christian College (now LCUniversity) is not too far from where I live today.
How cool is that !!
*
Meat Loaf, aka Michael, is now 65 yrs old.....
***
I made a MEATLOAF today.....hence the reason MEAT LOAF, the singer, was on my mind.... :))

It wasn't your RUN OF THE MILL meatloaf, either.
...no sir ree bob....

THIS one is
 PIONEER WOMAN'S
meatloaf.
...*stand, put your hand over your heart and SING HER PRAISE !!
Your very first clue of how good this one is,.......
totally.....TOTALLY wrapped in BACON...
Yep, these MUMMY LOOKIN' things are actually THE MEATLOAF.
COOL, hu ?
Now, I hope no one takes this the wrong way....
I have NEVER been the cook that PIONEER WOMAN is...and I don't
even PRETEND to be nearly as good.
But...
THIS is where I parted company with PW, for just a few minutes.
I put the bacon-wrapped meatloaf under the BROILER for a few minutes,
to get that bacon started COOKING
BEFORE I put this mouth-watering, to.die.for. sauce on top of it all.
Her recipe says to put the sauce on first...I pretty much knew I wanted
that bacon good and done when I cut into the meatloaf....sooo....
I just gave MINE a jump-start. :))
I also added a little YELLOW BELL PEPPER to mine.

I love love love that charred part, best of all...

This sauce is very SWEET....
just the way I like it.

If YOU don't care for sweetness on your meatloaf, you will have to find another sauce recipe, I guess.
The way I like my meatloaf best...??
Sliced really thin and FRIED....
I know.....weird, I guess, but....that's the way I like it best....
fried meatloaf sandwich....O HONEY
I made more sauce than SHE did because I love it slathered on THICK.
*TIP
I added a bit more salt, seasoned salt and pepper than SHE did
because we just like it a little salter....(shame on us but...it is what it is....)
*
If you make this, I sure hope you like it.
xoxo bj

That sounds like an intriguing recipe...sweet sauce on meatloaf...hmmm...like bbq or something? How BAD can it be with bacon and sweet sauce and extra salt? ☺

Fun post, I have heard Meatloaf singing on the radio and grew up during his popular time. Your meatloaf looks yummy, thanks for sharing the recipe. I'll pass it on to the cook in my family which is my hubby. Have a great week ahead.

That meatloaf looks and sounds delicious!! It is so funny about the singer Meatloaf. Funny that you thought about him as you made that wonderful meatloaf.

Will try it soon,

I have never heard of meatloaf, the singing kind anyway. :-) Your meatloaf looks really good though!

I was born in 1948 and I think I've HEARD of 'Meat Loaf' but - like you - I didn't listen to his music.

I LIKE the bacon covered ML!! AND I am with you on browning it a bit before baking! I use a sweet sauce on my ML as well. LD would rather I just cover it in tomatoes!

He talked so lovingly of the meat loaf his beloved first wife, Ellen, made back when they were first married. He kept telling me it had a SAUCE!! It made its own SAUCE! I tried recipe after recipe before I came upon ELLEN'S meat loaf!!! The 'sauce' was the FAT drippings from using cheap hamburger meat! That's the way MY mother made it, too!! Now we buy hamburger with LESS fat and NO 'sauce' when you cook it!!!

I did listen to Meatloaf the performer. Your way of making meatloaf sounds delicious. I'm starving for meatloaf, but the weather keeps turning warm again, and to me, meatloaf is for cool weather. I like my sauce sweet, too, also the blackened parts. I skillet brown leftover meatloaf. I think it's even better after it's sliced and browned up in the skillet. I haven't tried it with bacon on it, but that looks good. Everything looks good with bacon on it.

I spent twice the amount his album would have cost trying to "win" it on the boardwalk one summer! Love your idea of starting the bacon under the broiler:@)

I love meatloaf the singer as well as the food. But honey this bacon covered one is a heart attack on a plate. I would truly love to make this ,but hubby has already had three heart attacks and I don't want to have one!

Now that's a meatloaf! I think I will give it a try, most of her recipes are really good! I've listened to a few of Meatloaf's songs, I'm more of an acoustic/singer songwriter girl myself.

I couldn't quite imagine where you were going with your Meatloaf (the singer) story. lol I did like "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" in college. I got it on iTunes and played it for my kids. They were so funny -- "This is kind of inappropriate, Mom."

I am a big fan of meatloaf, the food, and I know about Meatloaf the singer but his music didn't appeal to me. I like a sweet sauce on my meatloaf too. Have never tried the bacon wrap but how could it not be delicious? Will have to try this recipe.-------- Shannon

Hahaha. Now THAT was one creative post for meat loaf. :D You are so fun. Wish we lived closer. I for one not only love meat loaf and think I ( the very limited repertoire cook) have a pretty decent meat loaf recipe too. Yours has me seriously tempted though. Unlike you, though, I love the artist Meat Loaf too. I think we must have bought his CD somewhere in the late 90's. I wasn't cool enough to know about him when I was younger. :D I think of it as rock and roll opera and think he is amazing. No, I Wouldn't Do That and You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth are my absolute faves. Thanks for linking up. I'm going home and grabbing that CD and popping it in right away thanks to you. :D

My husband loves his meatloaf with bacon on top. I always like mine like Martha Stewart made hers with ketchup and brown sugar on top. I do like MeatLoaf and have a couple of his songs on my mp3player. I get really walking fast when his songs come on. Valerie

BJ, I made this very meatloaf today! We're having a little party over the weekend, so I made a double batch and popped it in the freezer after baking it about 1/2 way through. It will be easy to re-heat and save me precious time. Love all that bacon, as well! ... and extra salt, too!

I am a meatloaf person and I am guilty of listening to Meatloaf the rocker in my younger days! LOL!
Love how you combined the two and made a picture perfect post! Hugs Anne

You're so creative. MeatLoaf and the food meat loaf. Wasn't much of a fan of MeatLoaf music back in the day.. too much screaming lol but I didn't mind the softer side "I'd do anything for Love but that" and the food meat loaf I like it as long as other people cook it 90% of the time especially with mashed taters. Yum. Thanks for sharing yours. Looks good.
