♫♪♪...I can bake a cherry pie

...quick as a cat can wink an eye......♪♫♫
CHERRY HAND PIES
just in time for PINK SATURDAY....
 Growing up, my mom made fruit FRIED PIES
and, boy, were they ever good.
I remember coming home from school, smelling that wonderful 
fragrance before I ever got to the kitchen and saw these
delicious little treats, all piled up on a pretty cake stand,
right in the middle of the kitchen table.

 She would have two glasses sitting right beside the little pies...
one for my brother, KEITH....
and one for me.
We would fill them with icy cold milk and
GO TO TOWN on those pies.


Most of the time, she made CHERRY fried pies....

and APPLE.

We didn't care what kind they were.....
just as long as they were right there on that table......
just for us.  ♥ 

(I used PhotoScape to play with my photos....it's sooo fun over there.)

APRICOT  FRIED  PIES....
and let me say right here..

they were AWESOME....and 
HUGE.....she made a LOT of pie crust so she could make her pies
big. 
We still love a fried pie to pieces....

but since we try to stay away from FRIED, 
I just bake them in the oven.

CHERRY HAND PIES
1/2 to 3/4th cup of SUGAR
(I use TART CHERRIES (not pie filling) so I used
1 cup of IDEAL SUGAR SUB)
3 Tbl. CORN STARCH
2 cans RED TART CHERRIES
1 capful ALMOND EXTRACT
1 Tbl. melted butter

350 oven.....
Drain cherries, SAVING ONE CAN OF THE JUICE...
add this juice, cornstarch and sugar in a sauce pan and, on medium heat, cook til thickened.
Then slowly add the cherries and almond flavoring.
Roll your dough into circle, cut 8 squares, add small amt. of cherries to each one. Roll (any way you can),
crimp with fork to keep as much of that delicious goodness INSIDE.
Brush each with butter and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top. 
Warning...watch them closely as the juice is bound to bubble outside the pies
and they will burn quickly on the bottom......just keep checking them.
Mine were done in about 10 minutes.

  I am trying my best not to eat THE WHOLE THING
before Mr. Sweet gets home this evening.
These are good with COFFEE....TEA....MILK...
shoot...if it wasn't for choking to death, I could eat them WITHOUT a drink
of any kind.
Try 'em.....I'm pretty sure you'll like 'em.

* Ladies, I've had several emails asking who I was using to design my headers. 
I just wanted to say that I use my own photos, I like no more than 4 as I like the photos larger, I try (not always) to have the photos somewhere in the same color category  and I use the wonderful fonts available at PIC MONKEY.

I have never heard of fried pies. Does this seem right to you? Obviously not, as you have remedied that today. I think I would love to try them fried, though that train has left the station. As soon as the temp gets below 70F, I'm baking John an apple pie. It's been promised for two years and that's plenty long enough.

I am not a real big sweet eater, but fried pies are one of my weakness. Mother made the best fried pies ever. I still would enjoy them, but just do not cook for one. Not many places around that make them the old fashion way. We had 105 today, but "they" say cooler Saturday evening. Just need the rain so badly.

Oh my, those look delicious! I had to pin the recipe so I would be able to find it this fall. I absolutely love the tulips in the cherry can ~ just beautiful. I use PicMonkey (and Photobucket) to do my blog headers, too. Yours are always lovely.

Oh So Yummy!!! My Mom was a "PIE QUEEN" too...and sometimes we'd come home to a jellyroll pan pie... SO GOOD!
I have never had fried pies. BUT they sure look SO GOOD!

This post brought back memories to me. My mother used to prepare fried pies, too. She always made either apple or peach. She and my father referred to them as apple jacks or peach jacks. They were delicious.

And, I know yours are delicious, too. My husband would love them - he loves cherries.♥

I've found that (like many things) fried pies are not the same unless they are 'home-made'. It's been years since I've made them, but your post has tempted me. And your photos are wonderful!

Oh bj, Cherry pie is my fave of all time. A bit of vanilla ice cream too. Yumm, your little pies are making me drool.

I too adore the headers on your blog. I still do not know how to change mine. I guess I'm never going to change my view. Even though I admire the changing headers on so many blogs, I am fine with my view. Beverly did it for me. It is a keeper. smile.

I have never had a fried pie! What a great memory you have! My mom made great mile high apple pie, but we only got those for holidays.
Your pies look delicious! I looked up that sugar substitute, but they don't sell it here. I know you can get it on Amazon, but then you pay shipping. :(
