HOUSEWORK !!...bummer

"I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and
six months later you have to start all over again."
Joan Rivers
(hahhaa...ya gotta love this one)
"My theory on housework is, if the item doesn't multiply, smell, catch fire,
or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one else cares. Why should you?"
Erma Bombeck
(I gotta say....it DOES bother me when that fridge gets......bad.)
"My girlfriend is much better than I am at working hard then resting, and she demands that from me, too. She insists on having time when we don't do anything. We leave the housework and watch a movie."   Anonymous
( I gotta say, here, too.....I do love me a clean fridge)

"When it comes to housework the one thing no book of household management can ever tell you
is how to begin. Or maybe I mean WHY....."
Katharine Whitehorn
(awww, now, KATHARINE...we all LOVE a clean house and you know it !! ;-)

" I'm not going to vacuum until Sears makes one you can ride on."
                                                ~Roseanne Barr

(Wouldn't THAT be a hoot)

"My second favorite household chore is ironing.
My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint."    ~Erma Bombeck
(O, how I loved Erma)
" My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance."      ~Erma Bombeck
(Did I mention that I LOVED ERMA
to smithereens ?....and STILL do!)
"I AM THANKFUL  for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home....
I AM THANKFUL for the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby. " ~Nancie J. Carmody
 AMEN to that !!

Erma was a hoot. I loved reading her quips. I hate housework...but I really hate my house to be messy. Which it is right now...I am going through papers and books. Pray for me. Smiles, Susie

Cute! I do believe that I am the only person (that enters this home) who CLEANS! it's like pete and Re-Pete....make beds, do the dishes, do the laundry..over and over again!
But hey, I do like to Iron!

Oh- I didn't know it was grandparent's day...and apparently, neither did anyone else in my family!;>) I am certainly fulfilling my role this weekend-

I loved Erma Bombeck-She left us way too soon- xo Diana

Thanks for the chuckles! Cleaning is such a thankless task... once you get it all done you just have to start all over again. Maybe that's why I don't wear my glasses in the house:@)

I loved Erma too! I didn't know it was Grandparent's day...obviously, neither does my daughter!! I hope you have a great one!

Amen, sister! I am thankful that I need to clean because that means I have a home and a family that needs cleaning up after!

I'm also thankful for a Godly grandmother who influences my life every day of my life - and I'm a grandmother now, so her influence has lived long after her.

I am a great fan of a clean house, but I'm not a great fan of cleaning. I get compulsive after I clean. It's hard for me to watch people walk on my newly vacuumed carpet and mess up the straight lines I've achieved with the vacuum and then sometimes they have the nerve to sit on the sofa when the pillows were fluffed just so.

Yes, you have to do it all again 6 months later...

Love it B.J. Some of my favorite quotes and a few new ones that made me laugh. A dirty frige is a pet peeve of mine. I ususally clean it well about every two weeks. Ha, ha, hasn't happened this summer. Am I getting lazy or what? Needs it right NOW!
Hugs,
Jann

Happy Grandparents' Day, BJ! I enjoyed your post. I don't hate housework, but I don't love it either. It's kind of a necessary evil! I too am grateful for a home, even if I do have to clean it, and laundry, so we have clothing to wear. Thanks for sharing all of these perspectives.
Hugs, Beth

I hate to comment on this post, because I have to admit that I have become a lazy housekeeper. When I first got married, I dusted my house every morning. I was so proud of it. When I clean now, I find that my dust-bunnies have grown into Texas size Jack Rabbits. Thanks for reminding me in such a funny way that I need to clean house.

These quotes and your comments are LOL funny. "Sweep the room with a glance", oh Erma, you funny gal. I don't care to spend much time cleaning house, I'd rather do something else, garden, exercise, write, etc.

The thing I hate about housework is the vaccuuming and like Roseanne I would love someone to invent a ride on cleaner - heaven on wheels!!

Housework - ugh. But it's true, there's nothing like a clean house. If only it could get clean by magic or elves or a maid or anyone but me!

Patty Patterson said...

I love a clean house, and I like housework as long as I'm using a cleaner with a nice clean smell. I enjoy scents.... so if I find a cleaner with a scent I like I could use it all day.

Happy Grandparents' Day, BJ, belated I guess. You have a lovely family! I don't like cleaning the frig and when I go to FL for prolonged time and leave hubby here, he throws everything away and cleans it up, lol. The problem is I have to buy so much stuff when I get back cause he throws even the good ones. I don't iron either, clothes go back in the dryer if they are wrinkled....Christine

Great quotes! I often tell my 4 yr. old I love cleaning because I love my family... I do hate housework but.. when you love the people you do it for it becomes even a blessing (loved Joann Rivers quote too though!) LOL! :) Thank you for sharing!

BJ,
A D O R A B L E!!!
The vaccum cleaner literally died at our house last week as I was finishing the seasonal closet cleaning!!! The past two days, I've been cleaning in the flower beds! "Mr. Ed" questioned my motives as he knows I HATE yard work! My reply," The vaccum cleaner is broken...I had nothing else to do!!!"
Fondly,
Pat

Oh, bj....I just loved this post! I can truly relate. The older I get the less dressed I am about housework. Life is too short to worry about scrubbing the toilet with a toothbrush or cleaning my closets because company's coming. All your fine quotes are a crack up and worth repeating on a regular basis.
Have a delightful Sunday, my friend.
