First fire of the season...and BITS and BOBS

HI, YA'LL...
The BEST news today is that we got over an
INCH OF RAIN
in our gauge last night and early this morning.
*9/13
O, and how happy that makes us.
Happy and sooo thankful.

Coolness ......
cool enuf for our
FIRST FIRE in the fireplace.
UMMMMM.....

We've had our wood stocked and stacked for
awhile, knowing it wouldn't be long until we'd want a nice fire at breakfast time...

and...in the evenings.

Our wood rack is right beside the french doors, underneath the covered part of the patio.
A perfect place....
One of my joys in life...
a big roaring fire......I LOVE IT.
After building such a GREAT fire, I just got out my little thrifted, black
tole tray and made myself a snack
to enjoy before the fire...also pulled out my laptop.

That chocolate cake.....

PIONEER WOMAN'S RECIPE.

May I just say right here that I am not fond of icings made with
POWDERED SUGAR.

They are just too sweet for my taste
so the next time I make this cake, I will use a homemade FUDGE ICING
from a recipe that I've used for over 50 years....MY FAVORITE of all time.
O....and altho my cup says TEA....
I am having Chocolate Silk coffee,
FOLGERS, I think. (I put the coffee into another container);

I must say THIS is pretty much about all I did ALL AFTERNOON...
Well.......

and THIS...
My brand new RESTORATION HARDWARE catalog just arrived
and this cloudy, rainy, COOL, WONDERFUL day was perfect to browse thru the goodies.
I WANT that clock....
 PARIS....
1920
Parisian flappers all about town, I am sure....
how romantic is this !

Magnificent light fixtures....

When I get rich, I am buying ALL my STUFF
from their catalog....

well, with a tiny bit of POTTERY BARN thrown in.

Aren't these drapes just the COOLEST.

I adore the large, HEAVY tiebacks
they are showing here.
Is that ROPE...or a heavy, thick
rope-like trim of some kind ?

I think I could MAKE just straight drapes, much like these.
I am so thankful for my farmhouse home...
yes, it's old (but not old enuf to be interesting)
and it is very plain and humble....a 50's tract house.....
and yet.....it is our home....and we love it.

 .....yawn........
 OOPS...
Mr. Sweet presented me with THIS photo.....
WHEN I WOKE UP.
Eat a piece of cake and take a nap tomorrow.....
THAT'S  AN  ORDER !
X0X0X0
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend...
See ya on Monday.

Hi BJ, I just wanted to pop in and say "hello". I hope you had a nice nap. I wish I had a slice of cake...yum!

Stacey said...

How cute you are. :)

I can't believe you got to have a fire already. It was still warm here today but the temp is dropping as we speak. We are supposed to get 3" of rain.

Looks like a great night treat!!

Oh a fire would be so nice! Not quite cool enough here but maybe soon! I took a nap today and it was wonderful! Hugs, Linda

Napping by the fire on a rainy afternoon? perfect! We had a firfe outdoors in the firepit Sunday night with friends. So wonderful. I am loving the cooler weather.
I just got my RH catalog this week too. Your home may be a little old tract house, but you have made it so special and beautiful!

I love it! I Love it! I LOVE it!!!!
I am also pea green with envy at your first fireplace!!! I am SO yearning for fall! We arrived home earlier this evening and I am holding myself back from yanking all the fall docorations out of the attic. I am going to stuff as many as I can get in our Ford Fusion and decorate the heck out of the space beside our camper!
You are an artist with that camera!! Everything is 'PICTURE PERFECT!' Happy Weekend!

It is cool enough for a fireplace here today at 55. the cake looks so good.

Sounds like you had a perfectly enjoyable & relaxing day!

Hi bj, I am so glad you had some rain. Yay!!! I too love a fire but so far we are not chilly enough. Our temps are in the 70's in the day and high 40's-50's at night. Very comfortable.

We haven't been eating sweets much now that Bill is diabetic. Sigh. I always crave sweets. However less calories is a good thing.

Happy rain days.
xo, Jeanne

How did you stay awake so long by that warm fire and with the cozy reading? I have no doubt that we'll be seeing some re-interpretations from your catalog wishes.

Today is the first half way cool day we've had in Oklahoma in quite a while. Can't think of anything better than a fire, chocolate cake and something to drink. And oh yes, the rain. How we are enjoying the rain.

We didn't get an inch of rain but what we got today was nice. It has been in the 50's all day. Such a nice break from the heat!!!

I haven't been to RH in years. I drive by but don't drop in anymore. I will have to be sure to give them a visit soon.

Okay I'm jealous, BJ, of that fire! It will be some time before we can do that -- but maybe the patio fire pit!

Kris said...

BJ, you have the most beautiful hair!!! How exciting to have had your first fire! We love to have wood fires and have a lot. But we won't get to have one until at least November.
Oh my, that cake looks so good!!

I got that catalog, too. It is HUGE. It cost a fortune to print that. No wonder they have such high prices.

Yes ma'am--to that order for tomorrow!
Looks like you had a really great day. It's not anywhere near cool enough here for a fire. We still have all the ceiling fans going and the a/c.
