Does PIE make you BLUE ?

HI, YA'LL....
PIE does NOT make ME blue...
I have, in all my looong years, never made a BLUEBERRY PIE.
Blueberry Muffins...
Blueberry Pancakes and Waffles....
Blueberry Cobbler....
but never a PIE.
I made one Sunday morning, before church.
Taking it to STACY'S house for Sunday dinner.
OH....
AIN'T LIFE GRAND !!
I used the recipe off the can of OREGON BLUEBERRIES
and it called for only 2 cans.
I like my fruit pies a LOT higher than this so the next time,
I will add 3 cans.
I put my darlin' little BLUE PIE BIRD right square in the middle
so the pie would "vent" and not boil over in my oven.
That little bird works like a charm.

hahhhaaa.a....i just love the COLOR feature at PHOTOSCAPE.
This brand of canned blueberries is the very best, I think.
I pay a few cents more for them than the "store" brand...
if I am going to the trouble to make a pie,
I want it to be as good as it can be...
and good fruit is a MUST.

A lil' pie bird doesn't hurt, either.

A cute little blue pie bird in a sea of
sugar and spice and everything nice.
 *BIG NOTE....
after cutting the pie, it was not NEARLY AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
CANNED blueberries don't even come CLOSE to the fresh, which is what I use in my other blueberry treats.
SOOO, my suggestion...if you are gonna make a BLUEBERRY PIE...
buy the fresh fruit....
We added great ice cream to the pie and it was certainly pretty good...
it's just that it COULD have been sooo much better.
well...live and learn, I guess.

Looks like your little pie bird works well for you BJ! I have one but still had some boil over. Even though you were a little disappointed I'll bet there's not a piece left:@)

If someone else makes it, I will eat it regardless. Never had a blueberry pie, but I am sure they are very tasty. I am behind times, I did not know about the blue pie bird.

I've never tried the pie bird but now I will for sure, BJ.

Well, it looked good with the cute bird anyway.

I Love blueberry pie. Family legend has it that my mother had two slices of blueberry pie and right after went into labor! My favorite pie! A connection? Don't know, but I always use fresh, and sometimes mix in black raspberries or blackberries. Also love a peach and blueberry pie. Blueberries freeze extremely well, just toss 'em in frozen. xo

Looks delicious!!
My favorite pic in this post is the sepia (?) shot of the pie with the pic of you surrounded by family in the background!

Love that cute little pie bird. I've never made a blueberry pie either. ;-) This one looks delicious, and in reference to your last comment......ice cream makes any pie taste better. ;-)

I am a cake person myself. But I used to make pies for my husband. When he kept telling me about the pies so and so made, it seemed like mine weren't as good as everyone else's so...I quit making pies.

Well, you could have fooled me. It looks delicious and I love the little bird. I've seen those and wondered if they really worked. Guess they do. I usually only make cream pies, but I do love blueberries. Happy week!

I must find a pie bird stat. (And as wonderful as Oregon blueberries in a can are, I'm sure that you'd find Maine blueberries frozen a lot better. =D) Skedaddling...

Oh yeah I learned that lesson too. It is way too different to use the fresh and the canned. That is why I have to picked blueberries and freeze them than buy in canned ^_^

I've never seen blueberries in a can here other than pie filling and it's not that tasty. I pick lots in late summer and freeze them for baked goods and blueberry anything is a favourite.
Your little pie birdie is cute BJ, I'm not fancy and just make slits in the pastry.

Oh too bad about the canned blueberries not making the best pie! I know your family still enjoyed it, though. I'll bet you put a scoop of Blue Bell on it, didn't you?? I have a pie bird, but mine's a little blackbird.

Blueberry pie sounds so good and yours looks wonderful! I haven't made a blueberry pie in at least 10 years.

It sure does look yummy...I have never used one of those cute little birdies. "I am going to get one"! If I use canned pie mix I NEVER use just that. I always put two bags of frozen blueberries with it. AND I always zest a fresh lemon in there too.
And to answer your question on blueberry pie making me blue..."Of Course Not"! AND it sure keeps the guys in my life smiling too...
Hmmm, now I'm going to have to make blueberry pies!!! "YUMMMM"!
Have a wonderful week,
Big Squishy Hugs to you,
Donna

I LOVE blueberries and especially big Dukes that taste like candy here in our blueberry state of Oregon. We pick organic berries for $1.75 a pound. This year we picked 63 pounds which sounds like a lot but it only took us 3 days of picking, about 1 1/2 hours each day with two of us picking a large bucket each. We rinse, dry, flash freeze then package in 4 cup packages. Our bounty will last all year till next berry season.

There is nothing more beautiful than an Oregon summer day in a blueberry farm. Of course we give some away to our friends that can't pick :)

Love you pictures and the mosiac one. So cute.

I always wondered if those little birds worked.

I seldom bake, but when I do, I always add sugar. Extra sugar makes anything taste better! (Perhaps that attitude is why I'm so fat!)

Thanks for sharing your beautiful blues.

Happy Blue Monday, BJ.

That little pie bird is so cute and it looks like he did his job well! I just noticed your thermometer on your sidebar -- looks like you're about 10 degrees cooler than in the DFW area where I am! Lucky you -- but the cooler temps are nice, aren't they?!!

Hi BJ
I think you are right. FRESH blueberries do a really good job and are hard to pass with the canned ones. Your pie DOES look very delicious for sure.
I have that very same birdie...actually 2 of them and you know I have never used them...hmmmm...I had better do that!
have a great week

I so agree, if you are going to the trouble of making a pie use fresh fruit. I have mixed in a can with the fresh if I am a little short.
I love blueberry pie! Save me a piece, please!
Congrats on your win from Honey!

Well, at least it looked pretty. I've never baked a blueberry pie, but I will now remember your tip.
