My $5.00 CLOCK

 THE MAGAZINE COPY CAT CHALLENGE
for August was to copy another BLOGGER...
The above is MY copy cat from LAYLA at THE LETTERED COTTAGE
I have REALLY enjoyed the new look on my
DINING ROOM MANTEL.
You really should visit her ....... she has some GREAT inspiration over there.
They just redid their master bath and she shared how to clean your grout to look like NEW.
ANYway....back to the mantel.....
I had a large clock over this mantel and when I took it down.....we missed it....A LOT.
(it probably will be going back up the next time I do a MANTEL TWEEK...)

Then I remembered the MUCH SMALLER clock that my
sweet Grandluv, DEEDS, and I found in a THRIFT store in New Mexico....
another $5 piece that I fell in love with.

a little FRENCHY clock that is......
BLACK AND WHITE
(imagine THAT).

Even DEEDS said,
"MEMAW......LOOK AT THAT CLOCK....It's Black and White.....
just like you like.!"

and I said, "Oh my....see how much it is, Deeds."

"It's only five dollars.....get it, Memaw,
you need a souvenir from our trip and this will look gooood in your house......and it's only FIVE DOLLARS."

Well, don'tchaknow, I BOUGHT IT.
The very best part of owning this little inexpensive clock......I think of Deeds every single time I glance at it. :) I love that girl.
I'm trying to get to the point of this post........
SOMEhow, it just seemed to me that it should go up on
that BLACK and WHITE mantel..
RIGHT UP THERE with my VINTAGE white pieces.....
but....
is there room for it...?
and will it totally UPSET the whole balance of the things on the mantel.....?
I am SOOO not good at balancing things...
 ...way out of place.....???
tell me TRUE...
does it look ok here.....?
or
should I move it to another spot...?

Ladies, the world won't stop turning if this doesn't look ok in this spot...
....believe me, I have MUCH MORE IMPORTANT things to think about.....
this is just a tiny 'drop of wondering' as I get started with my day.

I have a project going that will take several days (waiting for paint to "cure" on metal)
and I'll be working on it most of today......
well, except for the time I have to go to THE DREADED DENTIST... bwaaaaaaa

O, don't ya just LOVE a project, tho ?
It's GOOD FOR THE SOUL.
xoxo, bj

I'm not a blogger, but I always look forward to reading yours. I think the clock adds a polished look & interest to the arrangement. The memory makes it so special. You know what you like & have a good eye. Good Job!!

BJ,
I adore that your $5.00 clock has such a special meaning behind it! No offense meant...try this...Move the clock closer to the white frame (nearer the word prayer). Place the sugar bowl near the taller pitcher and the smaller pitcher closer to the clock. It should follow the same symetrical look as the left side of your mantle! Truthfully, it looks fabulous the way it is!!! Have a wonderful day, dear friend!
Fondly,
Pat

I agree with Pat, move it closer to the chalkboard frame... you could even say "there is always time for prayer"! Have a blessed day, HUGS!

I have no advice for you BJ, I am totally vignette challenged, it looks fine to me though! And how can you not love the sweet memory of choosing it with your sweet Deeds? I love that something as simple as a thrifted clock means so much more when someone you love was there with you when you bought it!

LOVE your mantel! It is very lovely and pleasing to see.

I think I might copy cat your chalkboard sign with the same words. We have always held hands while giving thanks but now our NY grandkids prefer individually folding their hands. I gave thought to changing our tradition but still want to hold to it. Some things are good to change but I want to hold on to this one.

It is the "hold them" or "fold them" debate :)

Oh I love your clock and I think it is perfect on the mantel. What a fun find and so neat that Deeds spotted it for you. Fabulous treasure for sure. Hugs, Marty

I think your clock looks perfect there. I do like On Crooked Creed's suggestion though.

It doesn't look ok....it looks perfect. I love the note about holding hands to pray. We do that. :)

I LOVE it and it is one of the most perfect matches that you have ever done! Don't balance things?? You?? LOL You, so far, have never done anything I don't like. Sincerely...I mean it.
My mantel is...I hate to say this..but it still has "BUNNIES" on it, bj! BUNNIES!!
Excuse me while I run and redo my mantel! *sigh*
Hugs and love,
Mona

Oh that Frenchy clock is so cute and I really like it on the mantel with the other black and white items. Fits in quite well I would say! hugs, Linda

Are you really wanting to know? I like the clock a lot, but I want to see it on the chalkboard...held on with a commando clip that can be easily put on and easily removed when done...then a shorter expression written on the board and the things you first had on the right side. Ducking and running...

Lovin' the clock--especially the story behind it.

I love your clock - looks great on your mantle with all of your white accessories - and what a great deal you got!

Brenda Pruitt said...

I think it looks fantastic! But if I had to add one tidbit, I'd get one of those black holder thingies like you have a smaller one holding the clock now. One that has more scale and heft to it. I think it would shine even more.

I have a little clock obsession...I love both of those!
I think the black one looks good there, maybe a little more in front of the frame. :)

I LOVE the clock!! You need it on the mantle. We have one up there, too, and whenever I move it at Christmas, we miss it sooo much. Have your tried the clock where you ave the plate with the #2 on it? I'd like to see what that looks like. What a sweet reminder to always think of your dear grandluv. You are the sweetest ever, BJ. I wish we were neighbors!! xo

I think everything you do is perfect, BJ!!! So how could I not love how you've decorated the mantle. It's beautiful, and I think the clock looks wonderful there. Whenever you have a LOT of time, perhaps you could give me pointers on how to create a stunning vignette with things I have on hand. You're so good at this...seriously! Blessings...Jan
