~ Fire King and Scones ~

My sweet Texas Hill Country friend,
AUDREY of TIMELESS TREASURES,
sent me this BEAUTIFULLY wrapped gift and it took me nearly an hour to
"open" it because I loved the wrapping so much.

Just look at it....all the things I love, rolled into one big TREASURE of a package.
just wrapped sooo cute ...and here I was, SURROUNDED with
Red...Black and White...Checks....Polka Dots...
I was in heaven, opening this lovely package.
and
not only did Audrey do a magnificent job on the wrapping,
the care she took in PACKING  the box insured SAFE DELIVERY.
...an adorable set of vintage FIRE KING cups that make drinking coffee or tea
a  PURE PLEASURE.
Especially when the RED ROOSTER is this SASSY !!
Oh, thank you so so much, Audrey.
I just love them.....and you knew I would.

"Fire-King was originally produced in the 1940s for everyday use, rather than display. It was often sold in bags of flour as a promotional item or was given away at gas stations. Fire-King could also be purchased at local grocery and hardware stores. Several varieties of Fire King dishes were made; nesting bowls, dessert bowls, glass beverage containers, casserole dishes, mugs and more."
CRANBERRY PECAN SCONES
to die for......
had this recipe on her site and they sounded so good, I had to give them a try.
I said, "Kitty, can I add cranberries and pecans to your recipe?"......
and she said, "Absolutely..."

so I did just that !

Just click HERE for Kitty's recipe.
I followed it to a tee but I did add
Cranberries and Pecans.

Next time, I will try dried apricots and walnuts with a MAPLE glaze....
O HONEY
OR...lemon zest, lemon flavoring and LEMON CURD
on top..... YUM
Now, I have to say these are delicious.
They are a dense, cake-like scone....not too sweet....but just right
if you are adding a glaze....
which I did.
I am not sure how you are SUPPOSED to make a glaze but I used
powdered sugar
vanilla
milk
♥ ♥ ♥
Add a pat of butter to the warm scones, bite into a bit of HEAVEN.

So......along came these cutie-pie, vintage cups, which, by the way, are in MINT condition...

A cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee, in a ROOSTER cup, served right along side of a CRANBERRY SCONE had to be a
 winner.

and....sure 'nuff.....it was !

Thanks so very much for the cups, AUDREY...
and thanks so much for your guidance in helping me make your delicious scones, KITTY.

  1. My grandma and grandpa had those mugs! I had completely forgotten about them using them for coffee until seeing your pictures. What great memories they conjured up. Now I'll have to be on the lookout for a set of my own.

You made them look so beautiful. Glad you added the information on Fire King. When I use mine, I will think of you. The scones sound so good too ... I may just need to try those. Blessings my friend.

Those rooster cups are GrEaT! And I can only imagine how elated you were w/the dots and such. Truly "You". That's very neat!

The scones look good too. I remember my post for Lemon Curd (the recipe is in my page post for Pinches of This and That) Plus, I think Marilyn commented w/a recipe on that post too. I may just have to try the scones and the lemon curd (finally get to try that?)

Great post! Happy Pink Saturday! Take care! Jenn

  24. Good luck with that tooth. Going to the dentist is not fun and way too expensive. Hope to stay clear of there until the permanent crown is ready. My mouth is finally feeling better. What an ordeal Hope yours goes much smoother.

  27. Hi BJ! I think it was you who left a comment on my latest post... right? Please just let me know... I got a little scared and very confused when I saw the person who replied called me tortilla and signed "Love, Bread" I thought... who is this? How does he/she know the whole tortilla/bread thing! and feels comfortable enough to call me that... LOL! And then I kept thinking "bj, bj" must be my friend from "sweet Nothings" whew... I hope I am right... please let me know... in the beginning (when I got scared) I even blocked the person's id... so let me know if you can still comment on my blog... otherwise I'll have to figure out how to unblock... sorry about that! If you can't comment pls send me a message to love.for.coffee@gmail.com .... Have a wonderfully blessed Sunday! :) Hugs!

  28. Those cups are to die for cute! I've never seen Fire King with a pattern - just the plain white, green and the gold ones. I love to make scones, too. During the summer when I'm off work (I drive a 40' school bus) I make scones almost every morning for my husband and I to enjoy with our coffee... I'm giving away a 12 ounce package of my favorite coffee, come on back over to enter to win! Thank you so much for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #42!

You have a very lovely blog and I look forward to visiting some more!

This is my first time visiting your blog (& following). I'm not up on the latest about the word verification. Do you mind going through mine once to explain why to turn it off? I thought it helped to keep search engines from posting.

    Blessings.
