~ A Great Email ~

Like  everybody else on the planet,
I love   FRUIT....

......especially FRESH FRUIT ♥ ♥ ♥

A little RANDOM here....but have you noticed...  the labels on canned fruits and veggies are sometimes little works of art....I love this little plant stuck in a cute CHERRY can.

.... they make such cute flower or little plant holders for your COUNTRY LOVIN' tables.

I made this pie last summer and I aim to make it again THIS summer.
Like....tomorrow !
(I used this photo on another post this week...OH WELL)
BERRY-PICKIN' PIE
3 TBL. cornstarch
1/2 cup sugar
1-1/2 cups water
3-oz. pkg. gelatin mix (fruit flavor as in Peach, cherry, raspberry, etc)
2-3 cups of berries (your choice)
9" Graham cracker crust
Garnish with frozen whipped topping, thawed.
Combine cornstarch, sugar and water in saucepan:cook over low heat until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and gradually add gelatin. Cool and set aside. Place berries in pie crust, pour gelatin mixture over top. Refridgerate until set, then dollop with whipped topping.
Makes 6-8 servings.
I served this awesome piece of pie on a beautiful BLUE, VINTAGE plate
that my mama gave to me...a lifetime ago.
 THIS pie will
BRING YA TO YOUR KNEES....
Mercy, it's sooo good and just PERFECT for hot summertime days and night and all in between.
WHEW...I made it to Friday, posting RED WHITE and BLUE....

THE following is an email from a friend that I wanted to share with you.
(the email...not the friend...OH, OK....he can be YOUR friend, too!! )
Berries are delicious, but they're also kind of delicate.  Raspberries in particular seem like they can mold before you even get them home from the market.  There's nothing more tragic than paying $4 for a pint of local raspberries, only to look in the fridge the next day and find that fuzzy mold growing on their insides.

Well, with fresh berries just starting to hit farmers markets, we can tell you how to prevent them from getting moldy:

Wash them with vinegar. SAY WHAAAAAT ???

When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider) and ten parts water.
Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around.
Drain, (rinse if you want, though the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar) and pop in the fridge.
The vinegar kills any mold spores or other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit.  And voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.

So go forth and stock up on those pricey little gems, knowing they'll stay fresh as long as it takes you to eat them.
DISCLAIMER....:>)......I haven't tried this yet....so don't come lookin' for me if it doesn't work....go lookin' for that FRIEND that sent this mail to me. :))
I AM trying it TOMORROW and will let ya know in a week if the fruit is still
UN-MOLDY
(like any fresh fruit is going to stay around Sweet Nothings for a whole WEEK)

I tried this BJ. I just did it to strawberries, peaches, and plums. The plums will be in the fridge the longest. It should work because vinegar kills mold on fabric. So, I will be doing it from now on to prevent mold growth.

I just did some blueberry picking last week. Now, I want to pick yet more and try this.

Sounds like a fun pie BJ! I read that vinegar tip too, haven't tried it either, but figure it can't hurt! Happy weekend:@)

Mmmmm, another great recipe! I just washed and sorted a bunch of fruit that was beginning to look a bit on the sad side. Soeted out the bad bits, threw them on a cookie sheet and froze the good bits for smoothies:>)

Wow, this is the best tip I've read in a while! I hate it when this happens and I will be doing this too. Thanks for passing it along. Yum, I want to try the pie too. Looks delish.
Enjoy your weekend.

Why are your comments closed? Don't you want to talk to us today? =D

What a great tip! And I believe it, too. I'll be trying it for sure. I always wash the outside of my cantaloupes and watermelons this way, too. I've heard too many stories about melons and e-coli.

I am just going to have to stop visiting your post. I indulge myself in my mind with all your good eats. I am afraid I will gain too much. I can see why your hubby had to go on a diet.

That pie looks divine!!

I'm very interested to see if the vinegar trick works. I hate that stupid mold. I throw so many berries away because of it.

I'm with everyone else. I'm going to try this. PH tends to buy WAY more fruit than we can eat in a day or two and knows I love raspberries so he brings LOTS home from Costco. Although I appreciate his thoughtfulness..I KNOW half of them are will end up garbage. This idea of rinsing them and saving their little lives is fantastic. Thanks to you, bj, and your friend!

I have never heard of this method~ It sounds reasonable though. I am copying over this recipe and will try it soon. xo Diana

Great timing, my friend! Our raspberries are 'on' and I picked a couple last night that tasted moldy after I sugared them and let them refrigerate overnight. They didn't taste very good on my cereal this morning! I'll try this advice - and always think of you as I enjoy fresh, tasty berries.

That's a great tip! Our plums are ripening now, but we had the best peach and cherry cobblers for the fourth. You've always got something luscious happening here!

This is a tip that definitely works for me. And, we all hate spending our dollars on berries that go bad.

Now, please pass some pie.♥

That bath of vinegar-cut-with-water, is worth trying (for fresh berries), I'd say. It's depressing and expensive, to find mold on one's fruit. -pout-

I was always taught to never wash your berries until ready to eat because that will cause them to mold quicker
