A hero of mine.....

The ride was right out of Amarillo....less than 2 hours from us.
How I would have loved just to MEET this amazing man.

THE BUSH CENTER WARRIOR 100K RIDE
Former President George W. Bush  brought the three-day, 100-kilometer ride to Palo Duro Canyon State Park Thursday through Saturday.

The ride was designed to draw attention to the service and sacrifice of military men and women wounded in the war on terrorism,It was about a wartime president who had to make difficult decisions that would forever alter men and women and their families, and it was his way to express gratitude for their service and patriotism.

Four lost legs, including Marine Sgt. Maj. Chris Self from Larksville, Tenn., who was the last in the receiving line.
“You’re looking good. You’re looking fit,” Bush said.
“So are you, sir,” Self said. “I hope I’m as fit as you are.”
“Oh, you are,” Bush said..... “I can tell. You are.”
HOLY COW....this hunk of a man is 65 years old........and LOOKIN' GOOOOD
Don't you know LAURA'S heart skips a beat every time she looks at him?
The amazing thing.....
He is more beautiful on the inside than the out.
He is truly a good, Christian man that loves his country and HE LOVES US.

I am not saying he was the BEST PRESIDENT WE EVER HAD...he made mistakes, just like all those before him and  GOD KNOWS  like the one following.
What I AM saying is that he had our best interest at heart, he is a good man, thru and thru and I like him VERY much.
I am aware of his popularity  decline through his terms. He had a lot....A LOT....of hard decisions to make and he did the very best he knew how to do.
I am also saying that I have DEEP respect for him....a respect that I've not felt for a president before or after.

I wish him and his adorable wife, Laura, all the very best...
and I sure am sorry that he was sooo  close and I wasn't able to meet him...........maybe NEXT time. *sighing

*added note....
If you saw the presentation of his and Laura's  portraits unveiled at the WHITE HOUSE last week, you probably LOVED how he stole the show with his amazing humor.
ATTENTION:
At this time, 2:53, CST, on JUNE 9,'12
AdSense has added an add to "sign up for a dinner with OBAMA"
I do not agree with this and just as soon as I figure out HOW to get
ADSENSE off my blog,
I WILL DO SO.
I am not liking this ONE SINGLE BIT.
Thank you......bj

Have you read his book about "Decisions"? I found it very interesting why he made the choices he made as President -- it increased my admiration. Sally

Thank you for sharing this post. I admire him deeply - and his faith is strong. That's what took him through some tough times as our president. Good to see him enjoying life after such a touch job.

He is showing America the proper way a president should step back and be quiet; oh, how I wish Bubba would have done that!

Remember how Clinton kept giving his opinion?

Have you seen the bumper sticker with W's picture that says, "Do you miss me, yet?". Answer: Yes. Thanks for the post. Cherry Kay

I feel the same way about him and I couldn't agree more that he is a seriously handsome man. I like him best in his cowboy duds just like that California cowboy who rode into Washington about 30 years ago.

I did see the portrait thing. I still giggle when I think of it.

I could not agree more BJ! I think I like him even better now than I did when I first voted for him! Thank you for this wonderful post. It's comforting to know that you and I are on the same page.

Very well said. Mistakes or not, it is a comfort to know a Christian man is leading our nation and will do what he believes to be in our nations, not his own best interest. I think he has continued to show the type of man he is after the White House. Does what he can to help in a low key way and keeps his opinions to himself although I would love to hear them, because he wants the best for us.

Amen! Good man and definitely good to look at!

Yes, how I miss him. No one can say that his heart is not forever with those men and women who heeded the call. He is very involved in their welfare.

I didn't know that you had advertising so I was quite shocked to see what's on beneath your post. Wow.

Good man. I think others are beginning to see that. George is a 4H. He has honor, humor, humility, and is handsome. Glad you posted your opinions, especially since I agree!

LOL you can enter a chance to win a dinner with Obama and Biden on your blog! ;P

I loved Bush's speech at the White House, and I seriously think that he charmed Michelle to the point that she actually WOULD save his portrait if the need arises!

I totaly agree with your post. He did the best he could under the circumstances. I can't even imagaine the burden that layed upon his shoulders for all of those hard decisions he had to make.

I just came back to show the picture in this post to my husband, and I saw the addition at the end.

This is why I will not do the Ad thing. I am afraid that something like that would happen on my blog and my mother's head would explode.

TBH, BJ, I find it very creepy that it showed up on this post. I'm getting a wee bit paranoid in my old age.

Loved your post. He is a hero of mine as well, and I really miss having such a man making the tough choices to keep us safe. Such a gracious man, and such a classy first lady. Miss them both!

Ouch on the ad?!

Oh how I miss the Bush family in the White House. He looks so good.

I cannot tell you how much I love that man, honey!!! Yep, he made tough choices but I did not disagree with anything he did. He set a country free! Being the wife of a retired Marine, mother of a former Marine, sister-in-law of 2 retired Marines, and a lover of this country's freedom, you know where my thoughts lay with what this country is up against now. I think he'll go down in history as one of our greatest presidents for what he did. GWB is a class act and more than I can say for some people!

Hop over to my blog and see where I have posted how to get rid of ads on your browsers! You can do it.

BJ, thanks so much for sharing this! We lived in Amarillo 10 yrs and I'm very familiar with Palo Duro Canyon. George Bush has always, always supported and respected our military personnel ~ more than I can say for the guy in office now. :-(

I met George and Laura in Dallas when he was still Governor of Texas. Such kind and warm people! I hate that there are so many people that speak ugly about him. No one is perfect, however, he did the best he knew how at the time. At least he and his family are Christians and that means the world.

Thanks again!

Nice post BJ, When he left office, I said, "someday history will prove what a great president he was"

I liked President Bush, too! And I think ALL PRESIDENTS will make mistakes. Mistakes can be forgiven. But - a president should follow his concience and do what is right. And in this day and age, the line is blurred between right and wrong. Many cannot tell the difference. I hope that President Bush is not the last president to see clearly and we do get someone who knows right from wrong in office in the near future. A President who does not know the way (and the truth and the light) cannot lead us in the right direction. We really need to pray for our current leadership.

I totally agree with your assessment of Mr. Bush. I think it's unfortunate that so many people have discounted him.
And I love the bike pics. Very sweet. :)
