Flowers and a little HOOT OWL....

I just do NOT have a green thumb....
my potted flowers are beginning to look S.I.C.K.
I water, give them sunlight, fertilizer....
beats the heck out of me why they don't grown and look happy.
I am pretty sure I could grow just about ANYthing...
if only I had a  POTTING BENCH.
I am looking everywhere for SOMEthing to make a
POTTING   BENCH.
I just love them but haven't come up with anything I can afford just yet.
WOULD you just LOOK at this one...
I would kill for one like this.
I just love that little shelf on the side...with the holes for pots.
and, think how easy it would be to clear potting things away and use the set up
for a food/beverage station for that next big barbecue......AWESOME.

THIS one is lovely and simple and if I could just find the lumber already cut in the right size, I do believe I could make this one myself.

It's the AWESOME
BLUE GREEN COLOR
that catches the eye.
I LOVE that color.

I love that it is by her fence...and all the cute little terra cotta pots look so cute....
see the little shelf attached to her fence...so cute.

See, that's the thing....

I don't really pot THAT many flowers and plants...
it's just that potting benches are so stinkin' cute....
and
I WANT ONE !!
Don't you ??
 OK...
I could actually KILL for this one...
Just look at how much personality and fun this one has.

I got the pictures of these benches off HERE and she got most off the internet, I think.
SHE is dreaming of a pretty potting bench, too.

So far, all I have to pot plants on is my little chippy, beat-up but loved
little metal garden cart.
and, today, I added this little metal shelving I've been using in my breakfast room.
I have something NEW in there and will tell ya allllll about it SOON.
Adding this shelving really is pretty cool. I can keep all my gardening tools, my little watering can,
and  cute pots on it...
I can't call it a  POTTING BENCH...
It's NOT a potting bench by ANY measure....

I CAN, however, call it my
POTTING  STATION.
It will service me very well until I come up with a
REAL potting bench....
(what IS that purple flower plant ?)

There's peppers, tomatoes and cilantro growing right now.

I am working on a little herb container garden ....sure hope it does well.
I'll keep looking for that perfect SOMETHING to make into a fabulous bench
and when I least expect to find it,
THERE IT WILL BE...
AND, if it looks anything LIKE this beauty from COUNTRY LIVING,
I swear, I will run away and marry it .......FOR SURE
O, and I wanted to share with you this adorable little
OWL PILLOW, by the name of HOOTY.
He came to live with me on Mother's Day, one of the gifts from
son, David and Kathy.
We had a wonderful lunch and I enjoyed it sooo much.
Thank you, David and Kathy.
WELL, potting bench love is over...
poor MR. SWEET has to clean the gutters
while I mow the lawn.
Don't worry.....we will be finished in plenty of time for
OUR  AFTERNOON  NAP !
OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY
REDNESDAY WED.
BUNNY HOP WED.
WOW ME WED.

bj I love potting benches also and was so lucky Mr ALC gave me one last year for my birthday. I haven't had much time to use it this spring but hope to have plenty of time later in the summer for puttering around the potting bench...just sounds like fun doesn't it. Hugs, Linda

Boy, I wish I lived close, because we could whip that potting bench out in an afternoon. Looks like a pretty easy style to build. I think what you need is a honey and a
honey-do-list. That one you have to do for yourself. LOL. Have a great week and good luck on the bench. Connie :)

Hi Bj!

I love potting benches. I had a great one when I lived in Northern California. Here is the link: http://bunnyjeansdecorandmore.blogspot.com/2009/08/faux-painted-brick-floor.html

It was more of a potting shed but had a great potting counter and a painted faux brick floor.

Phyllis at Around The House has one that was featured in Women's Day magazine. Here is her link: http://aroundrhouse.blogspot.com/2012/05/womans-day-wow.html

I bet that you will get one sooner or later. I know that handy husband of your's will make one for you if you ask...

Thanks for sharing at my Bunny Hop Party!

xoxo Bunny Jean

I can see why you love the potting bench, it is a pretty one. My hubby has the green thumb in my family. I just love your cute Hooty, a lovely present. Have a wonderful day.

LOVE your pictures! All you need for a potting bench is a modified OLD Kitchen table(TAG SALE),then have Mr Sweet whip up that back shelf out of OLD WOOD and maybe even put it on wheels with handles here and there and HOOKS for whatevers...It's really no more than a modified KITCHEN ISLAND.
As for you green thumb. WELL, BJ I don't think it's YOU, I think it's the PLANTS you've chosen. They are not an ALL SUMMER PLANT. They run their course and then "They are DONE"! You need a ALL SUMMER LONG flowering plant, THEN feed it the BLOOM PLUS FOOD and "You'll be rewarded...Try the OLD fashioned STANDBY GERANIUM...That should get your GREEN THUMB in shape.
Big Squishy Hugs to you,
Donna

I have a potting bench and like to garden, too. I feel blessed to have some land for growing food and flowers. I especially LOVE your adorable owl pillow!

Those are some gorgeous potting benches. But I think your little potting station is just as pretty. Tell Mr. Sweets to be careful up on that ladder. Have a delightful day!

I'm with ya, BJ. I have the perfect spot for a potting bench, and I want one in a big way. What excuse I will use when I still kill my plants is yet to be determined.

I love the idea of a potting bench. I think I would be more likely to do more with a place to do it. Having all the supplies and a place to work would be wonderful, not to mention I think they are gorgeous. I love the examples you have here. I'm just betting your sweet husband will build one for you! Cute little owl…….

Oh I'm dreaming of a potting bench myself or an old cast-off baker's rack...anything! Do you repot your plants? If you don't, they are probably root-bound.

Now I KNOW you have HINTED to Mr. Sweet so I bet there is one in the planning stages of his mind:):) The purple plant is gloxinia. DON"T let it get wet. It is like an african violet, water from the bottom and don't let the leaves get wet. XO, Pinky

bj you are so cute when you talk potting benches. I like your use of those wire shelves. Be sure to sit back and enjoy your outdoor space. Stay cool.

YES! I WANT a potting bench. There is something awesome about a potting bench. I also have a perfect place to put one. Maybe wishes will come true. However, I don't think Goodwill can come up with one. HA!

We are in Kansas and I am loving time to sit down at my computer and visit away. Something I have a hard time doing at home.

Tomorrow we are driving to Topeka to visit our three nieces and their families. That will be a very special day. They planned this get together so we can see everyone all at once. Bill's sister has three girls and they are all awesome and beautiful inside and out. Each of them have two children. We love them dearly and we rarely get to see them.

I am loving this vacation. Ialready said that huh? I agree about going or having company bj. It seems to be our life and sometimes I would like to slow down. In the meantime this vacation is very relaxing and fun.

Love you, Jeanne

Hi, I am so happy you came over to visit and I'm excited about you following my blog. I don't get around to big cities very often, where they have The Cracker Barrels. Next time that I am in a big mall, I'll keep my eye out, go in and have a soda pop and think of you, sweet friend. I may even save the old bottle and use it for a summer flower vase, sounds kind of cute.
The house next door to us is for sale, we have been looking at it, and praying about whether we should buy it or not. We are getting a little old to think about buying another house, but at least we would have a little control over who rented it. Rather have a couple with kids, than a bunch of partying college kids. We live a mile from a junior college that has a great flight program and those fly boys like to party, as many college kids do.
Okay, "Word Verification," is that the robot thing? What are it's pro's and con's? And how would I turn it off, should I decide too? I'm an old dog learning new tricks, when it comes to blogging. Have a great day and looking forward to hearing from you again. Connie :)

Now that you mention it, maybe that is my downfall too, I don't have a designated potting bench! :) The ones you featured are gorgeous!

I have a homemade on on my front porch. Wanted one for years and finally built one - mostly 2X4s and then pieces of shelving for the bottom shelf and top. I had two vintage "things I added to the back of the top - one was an old bookcase - very short - lots of peely paint just like I like. Fastened it to the left top with L brackets. Then I had this little old cabinet - one skinny drawer across the bottom and a couple of shelves over it. Fastened it the same way on the top right. There is several inches of space between them where I have "things" hanging - some scissors, a ball of twine over an old wood handle, etc. Don't much use it for potting but keep garden "stuff" on the shelves (as well as pretties LOL). I love it! And the cat used to sleep on it before we put a cat door in the garage door and now he sleeps in a small dog bed in the garage most of the time LOL or in the rocking chair on the front porch (where the potting table lives).

I would love a potting bench too. Be fun to turn into a party station, too.

Those potting benches are adorable. You improvised and it came out great. I found something in the garage. Found out when we sold our little cottage my husband found this in the shed and had it moved to our home. I was so excited. I will post about it soon. It's pretty ugly now but need to spruce it up.

ooops, forgot.....LOVE the owl.

Hi BJ: Aren't those potting benches nice. They are so cute and look so good in the garden. Just ask mine, although, I'm sure, she would say in return "Oh, THAT'S what I am, a potting bench. Hum, I didn't know!"..I guess I'll have to teach her now, won't I?..Happy Wednesday..Judy

Potting benches are so lovely and efficient. I hope you find your dream bench. There's lots of inspiration out there. I love your header...very cute/

Cute pillow and your potiing shelf is great!
I literally use an old bench! It is back by the garage.
I have a stainless steel table on the side porch that I use for flower arranging and little projects.
I keep my clippers etc on the shelf underneath it. Good enough for me.
My mom never had a potting bench, but she had beautiful gardens! It's not the sneakers that make you run fast! :)

BJ,
Your little owl is a hoot, indeed! I'll be wishing hard for you that you either find or make a potting bench. The last one we had @ the Antique store where I worked last year sold for $225.00...but the person who made it only spent $65.00 in materials. Good luck hunting!!!
Fondly,
Pat
