BITS and BOBS....again

BITS and BOBS
aka
THIS and THATS
First of all in my BITS and BOBS,
I found this most delightful photo of a beautiful, fat little DOVE,
and have NO idea where it came from.
Did I steal it from someone ??
Did Mr. Sweet take it and got REALLY lucky and got this good of a photo with
a little, inexpensive POINT and SHOOT camera ?
I THINK NOT....
If you know who it belongs to, please let me know so I can go on bended knee and
beg forgiveness for using it here...
Well, HOLD THE PHONE...
He remembers taking a photo of a dove on our back porch  with our new little CANON SX130
but we NEVER get this good of a photo so he is unsure.

Such as it goes with two olden people...
It's like the blind leading the blind....
:>)
NEXT....
My sweet friend, VEE,  makes these cute as can be MAGNETS
and she made one with SCRIPT, just for me.
TODAY, it is on my fridge, holding a photo of the most darling little boy....
a friend's newest GRANDSON,
ADAM
Nutin' any better than a homemade biscuit, favorite jam and good, lean bacon.
 ♥ ♥ ♥
2 cups all purpose flour
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup BUTTER MILK
(no buttermilk ?...just add a tablespoon (or cap full) of vinegar to regular milk (we called it SWEET MILK when I was a kid...every now and then, I say "sweet milk" and the grands look at me like I have
3 heads and one is bald... !!) ;>)

The dough needs to be moist...not dry, so if you need to add a little more milk, by all means, DO.
I add enuf to make my dough VERY wet..having to add flour to my hands
to *work* it..
I usually add ONE FULL CUP buttermilk and sometimes, a little more.
THE SOFT SOFT DOUGH IS THE SECRET TO A REALLY GOOD, FLUFFY BISCUIT.
Bake them in a CAST IRON SKILLET and you'll never go back to a cookie sheet or pan again.
I was sooo lucky to win my friend, SUE's  giveaway a couple weeks ago...
THIS is, by far, Mr. Sweet's favorite female group
and when I told him I had won their NEWEST CD
he started watching for the mail
every single morning.
When the CD came, he beat me to the mailbox, once again,
and now he claims this CD
AS HIS OWN....
He said, "Thanks so much, Sue. I sure am gonna enjoy it."
HAAAahhhaaa....I thank you, too, Suz.
On a day out with the girls (yep, we STILL call ourselves GIRLS), recently,
 I had this amazing sandwich...
Chicken Salad of the BEST kind !!

I had a cook-along with a friend last Sunday, we tried a new biscuit recipe that called for butter... we both agree, never again! Shortening and cast iron is the only way to go!:@)

Hi BJ!

I always love having those little doves in the yars. They are one of the birds that 'followed' me from my Texas garden to this new Ca. desert garden. I sure wish the Cardinals did too... but now we have Road Runners!

It never fails... every time I come to visit you are tempting me with food AND bragging about yet another giveaway win! (by the way... did you happen to notice that I also won something at Laurie's Valentine's Party? First time to win EVER!)

I know you entered my current giveaway... should I just congratulate you now? lol If you do win I will have to accuse you of cheating :0)

xoxo Bunny Jean

Love your bits and bobs Bj! I love chicken salad too...did you share that recipe? Pretty bird shot too.

Hi BJ, I would guess that this photo had to be taken with a telephoto lens as these doves are so skittish..the fly away at the slightest sound or shadow. I have tried over and over and had to wait with the window opened to catch a shot..I really need a telephoto lens..that is my next lens to buy..I love Doves..we have a lot of them too. Country Pigeon!

You always have the best posts, Bj. We love those mourning doves, too, and have them year round here..they come right up to my feeders.

Great bits and bobs post...MyHero loves biscuits and the Celtic Women, too.

Pop by tomorrow- I painted that little TV today...and on Sunday I am posting that Sugared Butter recipe for your biscuits...just for you! xo Diana

The little mourning doves are everywhere here...I think I am a dove magnet. They always build nests on our home and I have to wait...and they sit on those eggs for eight weeks!

I copied your recipe and I am going to try these beautiful biscuits! Thanks!

XO,
Jane

I remember calling it sweet milk when I was a child! Funny like words can stir our memories.....

That magnet is adorable! As is that precious baby it is holding.

BJ, you always make me smile! I am going to remember that 'three heads and one is bald' and use it soon. It's too good to not use!

When I read a post here, I always feel as if we are sitting across the table from each other having girl talk. I love that!

Biscuits look yummy and bear no resemblance to the hockey pucks I still make.

Hi bj, sweet pic of the dove, we have a lot of them here too. Mercy, what a sweet birth announcement of little Adam. Congratulations to the parents and grandparents. It's breakfast time here and those biscuits make me want to pull out my rolling pin. Your photos are great and I enjoyed sharing your "bits and bobs".

"It's like the blind leading the blind" Hahahaha...I hear, ya', BJ...same here, too. LOL

I'm glad you got to go out to lunch with the girls...always such fun, but I can't believe the size of that sandwich! WOW! Looks yummy & so do your biscuits. I keep intending to try your recipe. In fact, DH just woke up & said "are you baking something?" He smelled my whole wheat toast. He said "it smells like biscuits" & then he said "I wish it WAS biscuits". I gotta make him some tomorrow!!!

Hugs,
Rett

BJ, I laughted til I cried at the "blind leading the blind" comment ~ it's so like husband and I. Love the picture of the dove. It's almost time for them to be back on our deck. I also loved the comment about calling yourselves 'girls' ~ we do, too; I mean, if you giggle and gossip, you're still a girl, right?

You knew that you could make me look! And, having an "Adam" of my own, I'm particularly charmed by this. I'll be back to read better, I promise!

Thanks bj, for your encouraging words on my upcoming move. Now I have a question you being from Texas and all...is it piddly squat? Or diddly squat? Because I have been saying diddly my whole life!

I got a magnet too, so kind of Vee! I love the Celtic Women too. Congrats!
I had chicken salad for lunch. I made a whole mess of it, and now we can't eat it tomorrow. I will have to give some to my neighbor who doesn't observe Lent!
