A Teeny Tiny Weekend Makeover

I love changing things up a bit on my dining room VINTAGE mantel.
It has gone thru LOTS of changes, depending on my mood at the time.
Seems, like as above, sometimes, I want things all straight and nothing out of the ordinary...
Then, it starts looking a little boooor-ing
so I shake things up a little.
 SOOOO,
I started with a little
THIS and THAT.....
.......AND  decided to go a little
FRENCHY......Oooh La La
 A basket of lavender....
faux, of course,
and these awesome vintage shoe stretchers add that GROUNDING we need in the displays of our treasures....

My mother gave this garden statue to me over 35 years ago and I used it in my flower garden for years and years.

Then, one day I needed something tall.......
and heavy......
and awesome on one end of my mantel.

He has lived here ever since.

The vintage WOODEN SHOE FORM came from my son's
Custom Hats and Shoe Repair Shop.

He is such a sweetie and gave me several of these to use in my decorating. I told him just as soon as THE CRAZE was over, I'd bring them back to the shop.....he said "no need...we have plenty...."
Thanks so much for looking at my tiny little mantel makeover.
It was fun....
but now, I have to work on the rest of the room.
and clean the rest of the house...
and make cookies.....
and go to the grocery store....
and finish my washing...
! ! !
SHEEEZE......
xoxo bj

I hope ya'll have a fabulous weekend.....
I am joining in on the fun at

Just wondering what you are going to do in your spare time when you are through with your "list". I love your little This & That mantle. That statue is especially endearing and I love that it reminds you of your Mom. Cute little clock, too! xoDiana

It looks lovely and a little springy too. I must get going myself as there'll be company for supper. Maybe I can figure out a bit of decorating before five!

All your changes are great, depending on your mood, which I am thinking is pretty darn good most of the time. I just adored your comment on my abstract. You made my day:)!

The mantle make-over is *weekend stuff.* But not all the work-type-stuff you mentioned. Nope, don't do all that work-type-stuff on the weekend. ,-)

Shushhhhhhhhhhhh... Don't tell anyone... But my mantle is still in Valentine's Day Mode. Eeeek! Isn't that awful?!? -gigggggles-

Love your mantle. I have had the same mantle basics since I moved into my house seven years ago. All I can say for myself is that was before Pinterest, at least that's my excuse. I am looking forward to making changes, big changes. I think the mantle really sets the tone of the room and I am ready for a change!
How nice of your son to send over the shoe stretchers..they are super cute!! I love how you incorporated them!!
Have a great weekend!

p.s. I SHOULD be cleaning and washing clothes and cooking but instead I am sitting in my big old comfy chair, browsing blogs and watching Netflix. Sometimes you just have to give yourself lazy days!

Dear "BJ" I know you have been a fan of Fats Domino for years. Did you know that his Birthday is today? He turns 84 today, 2/26/'12.

Loved seeing St. Francis of Assisi up on your pretty Frenchy mantle, BJ! (His mother was French!) He founded the Franciscan Order, “To follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ and to walk in his footsteps.”

I got tired just reading your list of things you have yet to do!
Oh & my DH still uses shoe molds like those wooden ones!! LOL

Hugs,
Rett

Looks great! Love the St. Francis Statue. I went to a Franciscan College in Ohio, and son went to a Franciscan HS here in NY.

I hope my lavender comes back this year!

Happy Birthday to Fats, let's stroll!

Love the St Francis statue and the basket of lavender. Your mantel looks lovely, well done! I hope you have a great week ahead.

Hi BJ! Love the whole mantle vignette. The lavender may be faux, but it adds just the right pop of color and looks very realistic to me! And those shoe stretchers are fab! I love vintage pieces that were strictly utilitarian when they were originally created but are so decorative today.

Stopping by and newly following from Masterpiece Monday. Have an awesome week!
