She was right....

VEE told me that MOLASSES COOKIES were awesomely good...
I had never had one.
Can you imagine living such a loooong life as I have and never having a
MOLASSES COOKIE ?
Well......I HAD to give her recipe a try.....
and I surely am glad I did.
THIS is not the total
CAST OF CHARACTERS
but it makes a cute photo.....:>)
After I got the batter all mixed,
I almost ate the WHOLE THING
before I could even bake them....

I mean.......
just take a look at all that
cinnamon, sugar, spices....

O HONEY

Yep....usually when the dough is
GOOD ENUF TO EAT....
you can bet your sweet potatoes that those cookies are going to be good, too.

OK, VEE.....at this point,
I am belivin' ya.

HERE is her awesome recipe that she got from someone else, most likely in BLOGLAND.
You might owe it to yourself to give them a try.
AND....
I just MIGHT claim THIS recipe as my very own.:)))

She said, "I hope your molasses is unsulphured."
and I am saying.....WHAAAAAT ?
After doing about a 1/2 second study of UNSULPHURED molasses, I came up with
"Unsulphured molasses is the finest quality. It is made from the juice of sun-ripened cane and the juice is clarified and concentrated."
So, I ran to the kitchen to check to see if my favorite GRANDMA'S MOLASSES was
unsulphured.
INDEED IT WAS....
so......I was off and running.
I was totally in love with this rich, pretty color but......
never having a Molasses Cookie, I didn't have a clue what they were supposed to look like.
Is this right....?....too thick...?...too small...??
Oops and not quite sweet enuf for two SUGAH LOVIN' OLDIES
such as Mr. Sweet and myself.
Oh, but the taste.......SOOO GOOD.

I rolled part of the dough and cut just rounded shapes....

So I had half "drop" cookies and
half rolled....
all with the same, sweet dough.

Since we like a little more sweet cookie,
I made a delicious simple icing of powdered sugar and whipping creme.
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE...!!

Over the course of just a few days,
we ate a plate full and
the rest went into the freezer
for some evening when
it's snowing outside,
we have a big, beautiful fire going in our fireplace,
a pot of hot coffee brewing
and looking hi and lo for something SWEET to munch on.
THEN......I remember....
VEE'S
Molasses Cookies...
YUM

Molasses is a very wonderful and old fashioned ingredient that I like very much. It goes into my gingerbread cookies I bake at Christmas which look like these.

Earl's grandpa used to make molasses cookies and when we visited he would always get them out becasue I told him once how my own grandma had made them and how I loved them. I would always say "I shouldn't I really need to lose some weight." And he would always tell me I was "perfect". I always ate the cookie:>)
Your cookies look just like they shuold, puffy and chewy and delicious!

What a fun post. You know, I have never had a molasses cookie either. Since it's practically my duty to love cookies...I just might give this recipe a try. You couldn't have known it but your reference to the wonderful life you and Mr. Sweet have post retirement and empty nest gives me tremendous hope. Thank you sweet lady. Patty

Yes, they came from Pondside's mother. Pondside grew up in Cape Breton Canada and since my mother's side of the family hails from New Brunswick, Canada, I think it's the Atlantic seaboard thing. I was so thrilled when Pondside knew what I was talking about and sent me her mother's recipe. Now you have gone and made it your own. Glad that you like them! Not to say that Barbara does not remember Hermits, but these are not Hermits as I know them. I actually have a recipe for Hermits in my cooking section.

Hello dear BJ!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and leaving such a heartfelt comment. I just loved that. :)Yep, I am sure mother-in-love is making pretties for everyone up there in Heaven.

I love molasses cookies. I have an old recipe that my mother used to make at christmas. They were called Molasses Crinkles. The dough was very thick, and you rolled them into balls, then dipped them in white granulated sugar. Sprinkled a few drops of water on them before baking, and that gave them their "crackled" look. They looked much like yours only with "crackles". I would have liked them a little sweeter also.

Hugs,
Debbie

I love molasses cookies. Mine are usually thinner and I roll them in sugar before baking them (it has been a long time-so I think that is what I've done). I'm sure your house smelled wonderful!

Archway Cookies makes an amazing molasses cookie....sweet and chewy. They've been my favorite ever since I was young. Nobody else in my family likes them, so I get them alllll to myself.

Your molasses cookies look delicious. My maternal Grandmother would come and spend a week or two with us when I was growing up. She made the most delicious soft, big molasses and sugar cookies that to this day my siblings and I still talk about. I have a recipe given to me by my cousin that is suppose to be hers but I've never tried to make it. My Hubby is more of a chocolate lover but your posting makes me want to try making my Grandmother's molasses cookies.

This post made me think of my daddy who absolutely loved Molasses on his biscuits. I always wanted to like it because he did, but just didn't like the taste, so I always opted for honey. He said when he was growing up Molasses was considered quite the treat. I'm sure he would have LOVED your cookies!!
