My humble abode

Abode :
House, a human-built dwelling with enclosing walls, a floor, and a roof ...
My abode is very humble, small and loved....
loved mostly for all the memories attached to this brick and wooden structure.

It's a 50's Ranch and pretty much like every other house on the block..
I strive to make it 'just a little different' from all the rest....

The large windows on the right are in our dining room...
I love my little hand painted mail box. I bought it at a local craft mall....
The metal flag on the wall of the house was made by a grandgirl....
Thanks again, JESSICA.
O, and the cool, iron 'CONKLIN' above my house numbers...our son, DAVID, made this when he was still in high school. *heavy sigh and bursting heart.

These pictures were made a couple of years ago, when we had wonderful, needed rains.

This is the house where we raised our two precious children...the house that all 10 of our sweet grands call, MEMAW'S HOUSE...I am pretty sure that I will never move from this little, plain vanilla house. So many fine and treasured memories here...
I just love it...IT'S HOME !
The little cottage- white bench is a purchase from Goodwill about 35 years ago.
My mother was with me when I bought it...
she made a beautiful cushion for it but it wore out a long time ago.
I remember how much fun we had that day.....eating lunch.....shopping at thrift stores
with a few garage sales thrown in.
I sure would rather have my little mama than this stinkin' ole bench !!!

As you can see...SWEET NOTHINGS really IS a cottage...
MR. SWEET made the shutters for me....and the little gingerbread pieces on each
side of the round posts.
The next thing I would like is to replace these small posts with much larger ones.
Maybe this coming summer...........
See what I mean by so many memories and attachments to this home ?
So much of it is associated with my family.....
It really is a HOME and not just a house.....and I am thankful.
...the Before and After of the little, tiny plants that set my feet a'dancing.....
.....adding the awning and pretty window box last summer added just
a bit more CHARM.....
Thanks again, Mr. Sweet....you did a magnificent job on the little window box....I love it.
NOW...come on inside and let's have....
breakfast !
We're going to go the healthy route this morning with a good-for-ya cereal
and fresh, large, juicy, ripe , sweet
STRAWBERRIES.....
Our healthy cereal comes with fruit and YOGURT...
add strawberries to THAT and we're eating healthy...
and not a lot of calories....
 OOO, wait ....
I baked a large loaf of bread....*shhhhhh, it's a frozen loaf, right from the groc. store.
Hot, right out of the oven....
See all that butter ?
Now I ask you....
does THIS add calories to that HEALTHY breakfast we started out with ?
oops.......:>)

Ah BJ - am I so thankful that you know how lucky you are because it makes reading this such a joy. To have lived in a house you love for most of your married life - to have raised children in it and to have grandchildren visit the same house...such a gift. Your cottage is so very pretty - I've always admired it and the things you've done to it. I remember when your dear Husband made those shutters - what a labour of love.
This post makes me feel very, very good!

I would never describe your home as "vanilla." It's the cutest little cottage in Texas or right up in the top five.

You have a beautiful "home" - I bet it's the prettiest in the entire neighborhood. It screams LOVE & HAPPINESS. It just can't get much better than that!! Lots of great curb appeal too.

You have such a delightful home and I love all the special touches that you and Mr. Sweet have added to it. I've been in my own house for over 33 years so I know what you mean about being quite attached to it:-)

Of course not, that bread has no added calories at all!! hehe I've been on a kick of having yogurt, fruit and granola mixed together for my breakfast lately:-) xoxo

BJ...you have a darling cottage and I adore the porch swing. If there is a wonderful feeling within, big or small it's a home filled with all the best for family and friends. That's what all of us want to spread butter and lots of love on all the goodness we have created and call home! Those strawberries look so yummy too.

I sure love your precious home! In one more day my oldest girl will move 2 doors down from us! She is taking a week of vacation to get her new home in order. She is the one person I know that can make a house a home!
I try to eat healthy and then I find a big toffee Hershey candy bar! Ack! Messes up my diet every time! You are as cute as can be! Hugs Anne

Isn't it wonderful to know you're blessed in the midst of it? To know and to savor and not have to only see it in hindsight?

I love that you love your wonderful home and precious family.

Thanks for sharing.

Leave the door open, I am on my way. We eat the same cereal. Even though it has dried strawberries, I put fresh on it too. Memories sometimes is all we have. Hang on to them anyway you can.

oh BJ, the part about having your mother instead of this stinkin' bench brought tears to my eyes! Treasure the memories of your Mama and your beautiful house. Those memories are worth more than a king's ransom! Lovely post thanks for sharing your Abode with us!

Hi BJness! I just love your wonderful home. It is just darling and I love coming inside too! You are the decorator extraordinaire and you're always cooking for me!
You know what? A couple of weeks ago I was blogging, left my computer for a few minutes, came back and my blog was gone too! It upset me so much. In a couple of hours it was back! I do back my blog up just in case but I wouldn't even know what to do with the backed up files.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hi BJ!

Love your "cottage home". I wish we still lived in the house the kids all grew up in. I think that is why I hold onto some outdated furniture pieces. They just hold too many memories. Especially with the kids so far away...

This is a breakfast that I often have... minus the bread. Got to watch those carbs ;)

You are a CLASS ACT!! I love your originality, graciousness, creativeness......you are the REAL DEAL!!

I have lived in my home since I was 18 years old. Our homes evolve and change and yet their hearts - and the place our homes HOLD in OUR hearts - forever remains.

Not many grown children and THEIR children can return to the home of their childhoods. What a blessing you have to give this 'gift' to yours!

Dear BJ, it is YOUR ♥ that makes this place a home! You put so much love into your daily life & I truly appreciate how you share the bits & pieces of your day.
I miss my Mom, too, especially as St. Patricks Day approaches (her maiden name was Peggy O'Neil) & I would trade all the tea in China for just one more day with her.

Next, please give us a tour of inside. :-)

Sorry about the hassle which Blogger put you through!!!!! Which is worse? The fear-and-trembling when a blog disappears? Or the weird stuff left over, after? Like different size fonts...? Ugh...

First, thank you for the sweet compiment you paid Patrick. Yes, he was a handsome man...with a heart to match.

You and I have similar homes and like you I am grateful for my home. It belonged to another at one time and she raised her little ones here. I lived in a home only about two miles away.

I hope she knows I am taking care of her home..and have left some things in it just as they were. Her blue rocker for instance. I do not decorate with blue, but in this instance..it will stay. I've change it totally otherwise, but I still think of myself as the "caretaker" to some degree.

I would like to know someone would care for my husband and keep him from dying of lonliness.

You are right..you have made a "cottage" from your little ranch style home and it is adorable.
I have tried to do the same with this one. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to make a home..where ever I am.

Do you know...I am still searching for just the right Polka dot dishes?? LOL
Yep. I am.
Hugs,
Mona

I think your home is wonderful! We've talked before about the difference it makes when you all stay in one place, or when you move around. My kids grew up in 5 different houses in 3 different towns. We didn't have a choice about the towns...my husband would get transferred. The houses we changed a couple of times as we needed more room or a house that required less work. I actually love changing houses...but not towns.

You can feel all the love and warmth just coming out the windows of your very special home.

Hi BJ! Yes, it's those little memories that makes a house a home, and a Ranch into a Cottage! I wish my mailbox was that close to my door - I have to walk (or drive) almost a 1/4 mile to mine!

I loved seeing your sweet home! Love the cottage where you live. We have a sixties vintage ranch home and I'm constantly trying to add character to make it have the cottage look. I love the shutters and cute pieces your hubby added to your home. I want my sweetheart to help me make new shutters for ours. I know what I want and it's simple - just need the time!
