Veteran's Day 11/11/11

My daddy was a WW2 Veteran,
as was his brother, my Uncle Otis.
They went into the war together and praise be to our Heavenly Father,
they both CAME HOME.
That's my daddy, with the suitcase...
that's MOI with the little flower pot hat on.
I loved my dad about as much as any daughter ever loved her daddy.
He was kind and good and had the most wonderful laugh...
it came from the tip of his toes and rumbled all the way up.
...and he laughed....A LOT.
He was my step-dad...and I couldn't have loved him more if he had been my real dad.....and he loved me.
I miss him every single day but also I thank God for sending him to me, a long long time ago.
In honor of VETERAN'S DAY
I have a little table scape,
using the colors of the day...
A RED WHITE AND BLUE table seems fitting for this very special day.
I love using my vintage LIBERTY BLUE dinnerware when I want to
pay tribute to our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and for all those that have
fought to keep it free.
Do you ever get a lump in your throat when you really think about...
PAUL REVERE....
and
BETSY ROSS ?
MEEE, TOO !
Oh, the wonderful things they did that will live on in history FOREVER.
♫♪♪ O, my heart beats true....for the Red, White and Blue.....
I've never made a RED WHITE and BLUE cake..
this one is off the net
but I am promising myself to give it a try....maybe for the 4th of July.
That gives me time to THINK about it..  *grin

MR. SWEET joins me in wishing ALL our beloved veteran's
much love and happiness...and our utmost appreciation.
THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts...
Our sincere thanks goes out to ALL our military people and their families.
BLESSINGS,
bj  xoxo

Lovely tribute to the troops! It brought tears to my eyes. I can say from first hand experience, being enlisted is very hard. It sure does give you a warm fuzzy feeling the appreciation you are shown for what you did or are doing. Love the pics and your gorgeous table!

Such a heartwarming and heartfelt tribute to those who fought and for those who are still fighting for our freedom. We call it Remembrance Day here in Canada:-) I so loved seeing those photos of your daddy and look at you, all full of grins while sitting between him and your uncle! hehe Saying "thank you" never seems to be enough, does it, we truly OWE them our lives!! xoxo

A very heart warming post. My dad served in WW1, my uncle in WW11, my husband in the Korean War and had a lot of my cousins that served as well and oh yes my brother too. I give thanks to all our men and women who put their lives on the line so we can remain free. Have a blessed day and God bless.

Amen, Bj! My own father fought in WWI! He went as a young man and I was born almost 40 years later- his first child. You are so fortunate to have a Dad that you loved -that loved you back. I had the same good fortune...and I still miss him! xo Diana

ps...Your table setting is beautiful-very appropriate for the day.

Hey there! Gosh, it's been forever since I was by your place. So good to visit again. (I'm still looking for a button for your blog). I peeked at you post on that bread - it sure looks good. Over and over again I find myself thinking I need to come by here get your recipe for those toasted and jazzed up crackers you posted way back. I never remember to do it early enough so I can make them. Do you think I'll remember this time? Hugs and Love, Jenn (Peacorn)

A great tribute - my father was a Major in the UK army, and head of the cipher division at SHAPE in Paris, working alongside the US forces, so happy yet bittersweet memories all round! Love the tablescape. Happy PS from the UK.
