A Homespun Country Table

This old fashioned table setting is probably my favorite of all my tablesettings and I thought I would
'play it again, Sam' for

THRIFTY GROOVE  TABLESCAPE
PINK SATURDAY #2
SEASONAL SUNDAY

THE inspiration for this homey table came from the bouquet of flowers
our children used at our 50th wedding anniversary party. 4/10/10
Almost everything used is from a thrift store, garage/estate sale or flea market..
♥♥...gotta love it...

"HOMESPUN"
...that word reminds me of crocks, quilts, all things HOMEMADE...♥♥
So, I layered a HOME MADE QUILT of mine as a tablecloth....

All the different colors went so well with THE FLOWERS..

VINTAGE Blue and white transferware brought out the blues in the quilt...
This is a COUNTRY TABLE...all the way....
Even my antique BLUE secretary in the background played along in this blue and white fantasy.
The vintage LIBERTY BLUE  plates layered on solid white, larger plates from PIER 1.
.....mixing the OLD with the NEW

It's just a LOT of fun, using mix-matched, VINTAGE flatware

I used another blue-banded crock for an old fashioned SPOONER...

It seems to be all about THE FLOWERS...:)
I really had fun putting this quilt together...love making quilt tops and hate quilting..:(
THE FLOWERS, highlighting my mother's
BEAUTIFUL QUILT that hangs on my dining room wall..
I remember when she asked me what colors I would like in a quilt and I said I didn't care..
as long as it had RED....
Her quilts are a work of art...she was so good at everything she did.
One of the cousins that visited last weekend brought this
JUG OF APPLE CIDER
plus that cute little jar of RED HOTS...
She heated the cider, added the RED HOTS to it and
then poured us a cup....
DEE-LISH !
She said, served in clear cups, this was a beautiful drink for CHRISTMAS...
I love Christmas and can't wait to decorate, cook, bake, wrap presents, listen to carols, be thankful, crisp, cold air, fires in the fireplace...
hot cider
cocoa
spiced teas and flavored coffees
homemade cookies and new Christmas catalogs
It won't be long now.....*sigh
Cookies and milk, served on vintage plate and vintage Buttermilk Goblet....
another old fashioned idea.
Have a blessed and fun day...
XOXOXO
bj
P.S. I have nearly all my Christmas shopping done...just a few left.  ♫♪
I love having them wrapped by Thanksgiving, putting up our tiny tree
the day AFTER Thanksgiving and having the time to mingle with the
crowds, having a flavored Latte at Barnes and Nobel, picking up good
smelling candles from Bath and Body Works.....
searching out extra fun
things to go in the stockings, already hung BY THE CHIMNEY WITH CARE.....♥ ♥ ♥
                   I CAN'T WAIT !!

  1. You obviously got your "good at everything" talent from your Mom. Lovely table setting and flowers - what's not to like?! Good job, Missy.

  2. You sure know how to host a gathering. The quilt just pulls all these beautiful things together in a delightful way.

I had two choices when last purchasing apple cider and I went with the glass jug. I'm so glad that I did. I feel as if I'm in good company! Now I just need some red hots.

  3. So pretty! All your blue and white is lcvely. Are those Currier and Ives? I gave my daughter the C&I set that belonged to her grandmother and she uses it for her Christmas dishes.

That quilt is gorgeous too! xo Diana

  7. I love your table. It is just my style with the colors and everything. Now I need to get my act together and clean my living room and dining room so I can enjoy it like that too. Your pictures give us a glimpse of a happy room!

  8. I love a homespun look and you most definitely achieved it with this table. The blue and white vintage china against that patchwork is just perfect.

I'm envious of you for the shopping. Every year, I say that I'll do that, and every year... same old Debbie.

    Sigh.

  10. Gosh bj, it isn't Thanksgiving yet and I am all excited about Christmas.HA! Homespun is exactly what your beautiful post is today. I want to come to your house for some cookies and milk. Well, I really don't like milk, so make it tea or coffee. Imagine, a girl growing up on a dairy farm not liking milk. ???

Love the spooner/crock and the quilt tablecloth but the beautiful flowers make it all come together so perfectly.

Yes, we are on the road again in Florida for football. Today is homecoming at UF and YIKES, Bill just poured egg beaters in our coffee and it tastes awful. Ha!, MEN!!! Seriously bj, I can't stop laughing. The cream and the eggs are in a carton. So I should understand this??? NOT!

    Have a great weekend.
    Love you much, Jeanne

  16. What a sweet table setting. It looks like it belongs in a country farmhouse! I am jealous that you're almost done with your Christmas shopping. We haven't even started. My husband did start asking the boys what they wanted, so the wheels are turning anyway. Ha! My oldest son's birthday is in December, so we're always celebrating that in addition to Christmas that month.

  17. What a great tablescape, I love all of the beautiful colors and the mix matched silver.

I received your email too, we do have the same lamp!!! How great is that.
    Have a great weekend!

  18. I have started, but not finished. I don't buy that much anymore. We give the gkids money towards their co, just a little something to wrap.

Your way is the best way. I don't like to go out in the snow storms to shop!

  19. This is an absolutely gorgeous table. I love so many elements of your table: the quilt, the blue and white transfer dishes, the flowers, the mix-matched silver, and those napkin rings (because I have some just like that and now I just might copycat you).

There is something so endearing about quilts. I'm with you, I like to piece the tops but the quilting part isn't as fun for me.

Your apple cider recipe sounds really good and easy, my favorite kind of recipe.

I used to be ready for Christmas by Thanksgiving, but that hasn't happened in years. I miss those days because for me it is fun to have most of it all done and then do as you do, enjoy a coffee and the decorations of the season without the stress. I'm aiming for that to happen again in the next few years. :)

  20. BJ,
Love the quilt on your tablescape!!! Louisburg Cider? We use to live less than an hour south of Louisburg, Kansas and took many children there on field trips! So our Kansas cider made it's way to Texas...amazing! We'll be hosting Thanksgiving here...then I'll be going full speed ahead into Christmas. Enjoy your time with family as your efforts to enjoy the Season have truly paid it forward!
    Fondly,
    Pat

What's a spooner? Something for the gravy?

I love the quilt and the beautiful flowers.

Wish I could see it all in person!
