SHADOWS

 9/22/2011
HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY
to our 18 year old
LACEY JEAN
"LACEY, you've brought us all so much joy and love, I can't even
find the words to say it all."
"Your beauty is so deep and so true and you make us all so so PROUD."
We all love so very much.
The last of summertime...
It will be hot here in West Texas for awhile longer...
but maybe the 3 digit temps are behind us.
Even tho, we out here in Texas, are PROUD to see this long, hot, dry summer end,
I will miss the FRUITS of the season.
This pineapple was so juicy and sweet....
Mr. Sweet says that when he was a little boy, his mom CANNED fresh pineapple.
He and his brother and 3 sisters would help her peel all the pineapples and  his mother
said they could have the rinds to eat the pineapple that was left on them.
Well, Mr. Sweet ate so much of it that his entire lips and all around them were BLISTERED.
It took him several years before he even WANTED fresh pineapple.
THIS summer, the grapes were better than they have been in ages.
Every bunch I have bought has had large grapes, full of juicy sweetness
and they have all been so firm......just delicious.

These photos were taken with a cell phone..
when BROOKS, my sweetie grandboy, was
helping me, he said
"No one's gonna believe how RED those strawberries are...they are gonna think you altered this photo." :>)

Yes, indeedy....they were very RED and some of the sweetest, most delicious ones we've had this summer.

"I look out the window sometimes to seek the color of the SHADOWS and the different greens in the trees, but when I get ready to paint I just close my eyes and imagine a scene."
GRANDMA MOSES

 A really GOOD fruit dip...
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup marshmallow creme
  • 2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
  • Add just enuf pineapple juice to make it dipping consistency
You can use all kinds of fruits to dip and, boy, are they goooood.

"Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows,
the light and dark which that thing provides. "
No matter how uncomfortable the scorching summer has been,
it seems one is never REALLY ready to turn loose of this time of the year.
We hate to give up *living by the seat of our pants* ....
going back to schedules....
pretty flowers to cut and bring inside...
staying up late, watching that awesome movie...knowing we can sleep a little later in the morning..
"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you."
WALT WHITMAN
I hope you all have a blessed and FUN weekend...

Happy Birthday Lacey! I love all the fresh fruit. I am thinking a trip to the cider mill is in order this weekend. Those are some really red strawberries! Yummy looking!

Another good fruit dip is simply sour cream with brown sugar added to it. Give it a try.

Well, I am sure Lacey is a beauty and is so deep, her photo is just heartwarming! Happy Birthday Lacey! Thank you for that fruit dip, I've got it printing now! I have a version, but not this one.

Of course, it's going to be cooler!

Cell phone cameras are really pretty incredible aren't they? I'm very impressed with these photos. I want to sit down to fruit and dip. Wow. A grown-up grand. That gives a grandmother pause I'm sure. She's a cutie.

Mmm...the fruit looks wonderful. I love all the fruits and vegetables of the summer months. What I hate giving up the most is the longer days of sunshine. When the time changes and it is cold and dark here at about 4:00 in the afternoon-I'm not a happy girl. But, fall is amazing and I'm going to try to enjoy every moment!

Our fruits here in California were wonderful this year too. Just finished prepping the strawberries and washing the grapes and then came in and saw your post and smiled. Patient Husband just brought them home this afternoon..we keep lots of fruit in the house so I am anxious to try your dip. Thanks for sharing it, bj.
Happy Birthday to your adorable granddaughter! Grands are just so neat. All 14 of mine are grown and out of high school now. It's hard to believe.

Happy Birthday to Lacey! My oldest son will be turning 18 in December. I feel very old saying that. That fruit looks delicious. I can't believe the vivid color. It really is perfect. We love fruit and my teenage son eats it ALL the time. It's one of his all time favorite snacks. Now I'm hungry for some.
